so i'm still a complete noob at this - only been skirmishing since January, and have been 5 times so far but have caught the bug - BIG TIME

have spent a little bit on starter kit and bought a used G&G GR16 CQW which i have put new tb barrel, hop rubber & nub, spring and also had gears reshimmed and regreased

Its firing a steady 330fps and range and accuracy i'm very satisfied with

I would like however, to either improve the rate of fire and/or trigger response (both if can be done easily)

I've looked a little into Lipo's but dont want to wreck my internals etc so after some advice of what to upgrade/change and if poss advice on how (or links to youtube etc) ????

ps - i have looked looked at deans / lipos / mosfet / motors etc - but kind of want advice on what combinations i could do in this gun without damaging internals (and if easy for a noob or not)

As the man says, a 7.4V LiPo won't do you any harm and will give you better trigger response. You could convert the connectors to Deans but you'll need to be at least competent with a soldering iron to do that.

Did you do the gearbox work yourself or pay someone else?

No i sent it off for a service

i'm not very techy - so will probably just try a 7.4 lipo

What is it about the deans connectors that are so much better ?

Mini Tamiyas are not designed for high amps we have in our AEGs nowdays. The contact surface in them is too small so they loose a lot of current. Deans have big, flat contact points.

If you aren't going to do the tech work yourself then speak to a decent tech and tell him what you want the gun to do. He should be able to advise you on what upgrades to do and how much it will cost.

If you want to do the work yourself:

High torque motor + lipo + mosfet + deans to start with.

this is what i will be doing first - starting with the lipo & deans

are these suitable for battery & charger (gun has standard crane stock)

battery - http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-1300mah-25c-cranestock-battery.html

charger - http://www.componentshop.co.uk/1000ma-1500ma-li-po-li-fe-charger-for-2s-3s-lipo-life-battery-packs-complete-with-psu.html

anyone know of anywhere that has a fairly decent but not to expensive high torque motor? had a quick search but most places seem out of stock

and where the hell do you get mosfet - and why is there a price gap of over £100 on some ????

thanks for all the ongoing help & advice guys

Those both look fine. If you can stretch the budget to a decent digital charger such as: http://www.componentshop.co.uk/accucel-6-digital-charger-3281.html you would do well.

As for the motor: http://eagle6.co.uk/shop/upgrade-part-s/upgrades-aeg/motors-parts/shs-high-torque-motor-long-type.html are excellent.

Mosfet wise, something like this: http://www.air-lab.co.uk/products/electronics/power-mosfet.html

The price difference is usually due to some being programmable and whatnot. If you're not bothered with being able to do burst mode etc then a basic, quality one such as above will do good. If you do want burst mode, these are good (I have one hard-wired into one of my AEGs) http://www.airsoftworld.net/new-2014-burst-wizard-king-kong-super-2-mosfet.html

Word of warning: you will need to open the gearbox and get the soldering iron out to install a mosfet.

So with the burst wizard MOSFET you don't need to open gear box or solder etc????

Think that may be the one for me

You don't HAVE to but they work better if you do.

The burst wizard can be used "plug and play" inline with the battery, this will give you burst functionality plus the current protection for your motor. It won't do anything for your trigger response and won't protect your trigger contacts. To get the full benefit you need to hard wire (solder) it to the trigger contacts in the gearbox. Full instructions are included with it.
