I agree with Lozart; the XT springs seem to be far more consistent within each power rating than any others that I have tried.

Not guesswork as such, more that the length of the spring is a function of the material, thickness, coil density and heat treatment.

In theory, two M110 springs can be completely different lengths but still have the same result in the gun. One of the big differences is that OEM springs tend to be cheaper, linear and not so likely to last for long whereas aftermarket ones are often made from better materials, have progressive windings etc (so cost a bit more). Quite often in my experience at least, the OEM springs are thicker, linear and made of some kind of weird alloy of steel and brie that loses its strength quite quickly but is often shorter because they're made from thicker metal than an equivalent aftermarket one made of finest Japanese tool steel.

Unless your new spring is SOOOOO much longer that you're effectively preloading it too much by compressing it into your gun, I really wouldn't sweat it. None of the manufacturers seem to be able to actually make springs that are consistent between each other, even at the same ratings. Find one that works for you and stick with it.

Obviously, that spring you settle on should be XT ones from @ak2m4. They have been far and away the most consistent ones I've tried over the years!

Acquired from joblots, boneyard guns and some replacements. The shorter ones tend to give "hot" results on a chrono strangely enough

@DanBow I don't think there has been a single stock spring I've swapped out that hasn't been shorter than the replacement one. It's not a problem.

There's not a standard length, its ball park and varies with strength. AK2M4 have springs of different lengths...

@Lozart Yep. £91 including tax was a good price point and it did everything I needed for it to do on the gun it's going on.

Yeah, with the outdoor sale that was on this week I made about 12 orders as well. Got some small sling bags (4 different ones in different colours), two new radio pouches, a new baofeng, a better bowman headset, new gloves, some scrim net, a helmet setup (helmet, earmors, arc mounts), and the big ticket items are an LPVO for my m14 and a nice mid-range scope for my m700 that cost about as much as every other item combined

No more buying for me. That was more than enough for this month

Lozart got a reaction from JinxDuh in Does anybody else start off with a solid build plan in mind, then go to look at parts
I have about three half assed projects on the go at any one time all because I started down one path and got distracted by another while I was researching the right parts (SR25, I'm looking at you).

Plus all the gear I bought because there's a loadout I absolutely have to do and never quite got around to finding just the right shade of tan for the compass pouch so it's been abandoned (there's a chest rig in the classifieds that will attest to this).

If there isn’t parts left over, have you really “fixed” it?

Lozart got a reaction from Monty in Been casually looking at RIFs for the last few days but how do you know what's good o
Very little is actually "good" out of the box, depends on your budget though. A TM is usually fine as it comes, a lot of others are in need of more power/RoF/trigger response from the get go.
