Starting this off by saying you are currently learning yourself is a worry.
There are SOOOO many problems that can cause knock on effects for various other issues in a gearbox and you need to know ALL of them.

Some of which take myself and a combination of other techies (with thousands of hours and hundreds of gearboxes between us) many hours to solve, trying different parts, theories etc.

On top of this, despite working on gearboxes day in day out in a clean, well lit workshop and being used to handling small parts under tension we still REGULARLY drop and loose little bits (we joke that the fix takes 20 minutes and finding the part on the floor takes 2 hours) Now, rather than a skilled set of technicians doing the work, how about some chump with no manual dexterity, potentially no one else around to help close a tricky gearbox lid and no actual experience doing the work?

The other thing I'd be annoyed about is when you suggest the wrong part. Sure, a broken piston is a broken piston, dead easy (but anyone capable of opening a box can work out the issue) it's when things get tricky enough to warrant a techy:

You are told that 'the gun misfeeds the first bbs in a mag'
    1. Nozzle spring returns it fine, maybe the tappet plate, so you open it and sure, there's a little wear. You say 'buy a new tappet and call me back once it's there'
3 days go by and they call again
They fit it and nothing changes.
bizarre, maybe the nozzle is the wrong one, or worn out slightly?
    Buy a new nozzle
again, 3 days go by and they get the nozzle fitted.
    Still nothing.
    maybe delay the tappet
again, parts ordered, 3 days yadayadayada
    Still no improvement
and now it's a week and a half later, they're out 3 parts that weren't needed + postage, you'd be at £30-50 easily PLUS your fee (charge hourly or you might aswell not bother) AND they're frustrated AND the gun doesn't work.

had the gun been brought to me in store:
quick assessment, range for the techy to have a try of the issue - simple, the tappet return spring is worn out. Fit a new one.

When you pay the tech fee (certainly at Patrol Base) you aren'y just paying for the time taken, you're paying for every previous job where the tech has learnt something, worked something out to make your gun better, faster.

I can tell you (with a quick shoot on the range and chat with the owner) almost any issue with most gun types, I know foibles of different gearboxes and brands.
EG. KA V2 tend to have shit cut off levers, easily fixed with an ASG UU lever filed to fit (something that took me 13 minutes last time I did it from out of the gunbag, to tested and back on the rack)

If you go to partspicker, click edit this parts list then click on the part you want to choose (to change case, click where it says 'case' in blue writing, not the currently selected case) There's a zalman microatx case for £20

Using partspicker also tells you an ESTIMATED power usage (you don't need 500W supply) and any potential fitting/running issues with compatibility. I spent about a month messing around before buying any of my parts.

Once you've got parts that don't need big expenses, you can look at the other stuff getting a speed boost (quicker RAM, faster Read and write speed harddrive, maybe an SSD to boot windows from) Remember that you WON'T be running ARMA/Fallout/BLOPS on Ultra settings, but you can compete with the visuals of a PS4/Xbone for a reasonable price.

    I own a TM one.
Allow me to go off on one here:

It's big. Really big. Pistol's quite large too (ba-dum-tiss). Only realy way to holster it is with a Viper belt mounted adjustable holster. it's as big as a desert eagle. If you have small hands, forget it. If you want a pistol that is 'fast' forget it. If you want to be able to transition to it quickly, forget it. (Admittedly I do alright with mine, but I've used it almost every skirmish for the last 3 and a half years, often as a primary.) If you have the suppressor attached whilst it's in the holster (and you'll want to) your draw length is from grabbing the pistol at your hip, the pistol isn't free and usable until you have lifted the pistol grip up to your armpit.
Don't think you can get around this with a leg holster, then you'll never be able to kneel down again.

There are a lot of negatives with this pistol. BUT.
    Jesus christ.

If you want a pistol that you can rely on, buy one. and only one. You will only ever need one. This has to be the most robust anything ever. Mine had taken a beating over the years. Then I dropped it. Fell out of my holster. Lost. Gone. My favourite RIF lost. not to mention it was £200 worth of pistol. This happened in November 2012.
Every game I played I looked around for it.
Then. Mid August. Peeking out from under some leaves.
    NO.
    FREAKING.
    WAY.
    9 bastard months.
The coldest winter for years, plus all the usual yorkshire countryside weather. Plus the heat from summer.
My MK23 had been out in it all. I would guess temperatures ranged from -5 to about 20 degrees over those months.

I picked it up. looked over it and pulled the trigger. 'thumf'. sheeeiiiiiiit It still worked. Hadn't let out ANY guess.
Aimed at a target 'thumf' again, straight as a die.
better check it over before I do any damage to it.
Popped the mag out, took out the takedown lever and slid the slide off.
    yup, frame looks fine.
    Check the upper.
    a slug,
    A mother fucking slug.
    right in the mechanism.
and it wouldn't let me down.

The pistol is awesome. It outranges most peoples AEGs all day erryday.
It cannot be heard outside of 10m and is impossible to locate the exact direction of the shooting within hearing range.
It's had more kills on its own that the entire rest of my arsenal, I'm convinced of it.
Some days I'll take out £800 worth up Laylaxed up VSR and do better with the MK23.

If I'm unsure about what to take to a game, I know I'll still have a good time if the MK23 is coming with me.

oh, and just for balance, I DO also have the ASG one (same as KJ etcetcetc) and it's wank. Just utter crap.
Yeah, I know what other people say about theirs, so maybe that shows how highly I hold this pistol. (and how terrified other players at my site are of it)

and to clear up some misinformation in this thread so far:
the TM MK23 and mags DO take Greengas, it will also take duster, 134a, 144a, red gas AND Guarder Black gas. I would imagine it handles propane fine, but I am NEVER putting that stink through my lovely pistol.

Special forces don't use it 'a lot' it is too big and too heavy for a sidearm.

and to agree with some other sentiments from the thread:
If you use one, you cannot be cooler.
    They are stupid accurate.
They are THE BEST sniper sidearm
They are THE BEST woodland sidearm, regardless of playstyle
They are (playstyle/game dependednt) one of the best CQB sidearms.

and that is fine if you want a realistic loadout, but some play airsoft as a game with set ways in which to do better. It's like owning a better pair of football shoes or a bigger tennis bat - skill accounts for most, but good equipment is always helpful.

The P* Stuff (personal experience with) is just awesome, the way the rounds simply don't deviate from the path of the previous round is just amazing.
Polarstars are basically everything every airsofter wants, but with 1 drawback being the air line (and cost, but whatever, you could have bought a systema, 'captain AEGs are awesome')
Consistency with an fps every time
    Immediate trigger response
    ultra reliable

There isn't a definition of the lowest capacity to which a skirmisher is defined.

UKARA is a very good system for retailers, it leaves a papertrail with no single person being capable of adding a random person to the database (requires both site and retailer to add a player) This is why retailers use it. Yes, it's not a LEGAL obligation to have UKARA but it is the accepted 'standard'.

If YOU, the seller, are happy that the buyer is a skirmisher then all is legal. If you're onsite I'd say anything goes (over 18) because only skirmishers would be onsite.
If you're in a closed facestupid group, I'd probably argue the same.
On here? Although I wouldn't use it alone as a proof of skirmisherness, I'd feel comfortable selling to a regular on here if their UKARA had expired recently or they had photo evidence of them on-site.

It's possible that it falls into the Sec.58 antiques category (obsolete calibre AND muzzle loading) If that's the case, it can be owned as a 'curiosity' and I'm sure I've seen people shooting similar firearms at the range I shoot at.

The thing I would suggest is this:
Someone MAY want it as a curiosity, If this is the case, there are plenty more available within the UK already, and I would question why he doesn't buy one locally. This seems dodgy.

Just sell it locally to yourself and don't risk any charges.

We are only a very small Mod. team for the number of members, but I like to think we are high quality. Dev does computer nonsense professionally, less active mods (but still whitelisted) do law nonsense professionally, I do airsoft nonsense professionally, also, Monty is here (Love you Monty). In short, we know our shit.
None of us draw an income from this place, we do it out of the goodness of our own hearts.
As such, the less work we have to put in the better, really. But that's not to say we don't put effort in.

We have discussed the issue of post counts for sales thread users previously at length, but decided that the current way is best. After all, as Samurai said, it only encourages spamming and general quality of posts to decrease. We'd rather have quality posts everywhere that we can and have sales open to whoever chooses to use them.
If a user signs up and only uses the sales, then they're losing out on an excellent community, whilst our excellent community benefits from another potential new shiny toy for one of you.

Hopefully, you've all noticed a bit of an effort to keep on top the last few days, but we are a small team.
Rather than posting that a user should have pictures, please REPORT the thread, we can then deal with it much quicker and in an appropriate manner, besides not bumping a rule violator to the top of the page. Reporting allows us to keep an eye on the thread for pictures if required or kill it if not (and I have killed a few threads recently, but you won't tend to see the killed threads as much as the ones we give the benefit of the doubt to)

Most of you are aware of the Dev situation and we do ask that you bear with us whilst we try and sort a bunch of back-end stuff out, but he is currently the only Admin and he's a busy guy.

    TL;DR:
    We know the problems
Report more infringements rather than 'solve them' yourselves
    Keep up quality posting
Forums are only as good as it's members, and I think we have a pretty cushy setup here.

    Cheers
    Dave
