  1. Ok, so don’t shoot me!

Im not asking what is the “best” bb weight my question is how do I best go about finding the ideal weight for my aeg?

I’ve been using .25s since getting back in to the hobby but since I’ve had power down my rif as my regular site now chronos on joules only - I’m wondering how I go about finding the right bb weight for my rif.

I installed a new hop unit (this is what lead to me going over the limit) and it seemed to me that even applying a little hop would send a .25 up in the

air - whilst backing it off (possibly) led to it dropping a bit early.

That leads me to think I could go a bit heavier.

So is it as simple as I have heard some say “use the heaviest bb your gun will hop within joule limit”?

That makes sense to me - but is it as simple as that?

    any other advice?

FYI it’s an upgraded m4 with maple leaf bucking now shooting 330fps on .2s after changing spring.

    thanks!

  2. He he… well through all the fun above I have learned stuff - which is great!  Seems that the site is actually testing Joules on bb weight - they always ask you to bring your mag and say what weight you are using.  Just they didn’t actually ever say so at the site previously.

But I can now see that they have changed the website at some point in the last few weeks to confirm that they have a flat joule rate and will test at your weight….!

which I suppose is what we are saying is the right thing to do….

  3. Errr… if you actually read what I wrote it’s clear that I understand they are two different things - what I was surprised by was the idea that FPS would be quite a bit below limit but joules still over the limit - particularly as the same gun (with the only change being the hop unit and rubber) was passed by the same site multiple times.

  4. Hi chaps,

A new experience for me today.

I played at my usual site using my usual .25s and the same gun I’ve always used there and which has passed chrono fine before.

I had, to be fair, just changed to a Maxx hop unit and maple leaf bucking.

Today at chrono it was shooting 320-330 fps - but 1.27-1.3 Joules which was over limit.  We tried with several chronographs and got the same result.

field limit is 1.14J for Joules and (in all honesty) this was the first time I was aware that they measure J and FPS.

to be fair they let me play locked on semi (have a Titan so that’s no issue really) but this is a new one one me.

I wasn’t aware you could have FPS quite that way under the limit (even on .25s) but still be too hot on the Joules.

any idea how I can remedy?

  5. Thanks guys, this is all helpful stuff.

I have a madbull rail and it doesnt "quite" fit the receiver - but its perfectly firm and unless you are completely OCD about straight lines (I am, I once took a spirit level over our house and convinced myself it was going to fall down!) its not noticeable.

As Speedbird says - probably play till break and go from there.

  6. Hey chaps.

Its possible that I might want to change the receiver on my Specna M4 build.

the stock one is Daniel Defense licensed which is nice but I’m not sure what the metal work is but it feels pretty flimsy and is quite light too.

im aware that one cannot assume cross compatibility but If I was looking for a really good quality sturdy receiver set, where would I look?

    cheers!

    Nice one!

You lucked out there given the asking price!

funny though, saw a few people complaining about the contents of their mystery boxes.  Which I don’t get. People seemed offended if they didn’t get one of the specials.  🙄

  8. I like things to be slightly "off standard" - in the sense of I like bits from some things and not others.

My last few guitars, for example, have all been "partscasters" and somewhat hybrid like - mixing pickup types and that sort of thing.

I have a mind to build up a gun in a similar vein - rail from this, stock from that - and of course upgraded internals.

What I don't have a sense of is how economical or safe it is to build from a set of parts - as against buying a complete gun and upgrading.

It will be an M4 - but looking into things I tend to see that although some manufacturers claim to be v2 compliant etc, you can run up against compatibility issues.

So I wonder is it safe to buy a load of different parts - or is it better to start from a base and work from there?

BTW I will probably get a tech to put it together ( I have neither the time nor expertise at this point) so its just a compatibility and fit issue I am concerned about.

I dont want to spend money on good parts to find that they don't actually work together!

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!
