  1. If you are not already a fit guy, TheFNWizard, you need to get on a fitness regime NOW. Pretend you are training for a 10k (at least) and don't neglect your arms either. I work with my hands but at the end of a 10-4 skirmish my biceps were pumped from holding my M4 'at the ready'. Remember the 5-Ps: Proper Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.
  2. Tell me more about Fat Bob. I really don't like my blue and black rifle! ☹️
  3. I had my first outing recently at age 64 years. Where was this game when I still had my knees? Huge fun even though I hadn't got a Scooby what I was doing half the time. For the other half I couldn't see what to shoot at as my specs were fogging and the goggles kept my eye away from my rifle's optic. Nonetheless, it was great fun and I shall do it more next year once the winter has passed. My knees really don't like the cold!
  4. Wow, that's really in at the deep end! I have only had one day of airsoft, so far, and I was that guy. My team was mostly made up of experienced players who knew what they were doing and I was left out of the information loop somewhat. The Airsoft brigade seem a very accommodating bunch and keen that new players take away a good impression of the sport. IF you can buddy-up with a sympathetic player who has the time and inclination to show you the ropes you'll be fine, I'm sure. For me the hardest thing to get my head around was moving the respawn points. Three days? Man! Are you going to be sore and tired?! Have a great time and write it up afterwards so we can enjoy your outing too.
  5. 77 views so far and not a single comment. Perhaps I'm wrong?
  6. Thanks, Mr. Hamster. I now have "Action Air" on my radar. Even without all the bells and whistles of the big events I could imagine small-venue rifle and pistol speed/score events being popular with Airsofters who want to get some trigger time and sharpen their reflexes a bit during the 'off season'.
  7. Is there such a thing, in airsoft, as the Two-Gun competition? A quick look at YT will show plenty of Three-gun footage but does this sport exist in 'our world'? If it doesn't exist, I think that we're missing out. I can see that this is a discipline/game that could be enjoyed with airsoft guns inside a sports hall or school gymnasium, especially during the winter months, with a modest amount of equipment.
  8. Somewhere in all my readings about airsoft I found a piece which admitted that earlier LT offerings wee so-so but more recent guns are a lot better. You need only enter Lance \tactical in YT and you'll see reviews galore. Here, I've done it for you: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=lancer+tactical Good luck.
  9. I had my first game two weeks shy of 64 years old and had a blast. Of course, I ached for a couple of days but I shall go back and I shall make sure, next time, that I am loosened up for the bending and ducking. My advice: Get good eyepro. I bought a pair of safety goggles from Screwfix for under a fiver and they work fine but they do stop me getting onto the optic of my rifle so aiming became just pointing. Nonetheless, I had a great time. You could use the winter period to stretch a bit and loosen up ready for the spring games.
  10. Kids, eh? In a way airsoft guns are too realistic and bound to spark this kind of problem. The Yanks are required to have an orange tip welded to the muzzles of their airsoft guns to avert just this problem. How lucky are we?
  11. Shropshire Airsoft War Games is what it stands for and they meet, usually, twice per month at Netley Hall, near Dorrington, Shropshire. (https://sawg.co.uk/) SAWG share their site with a paintball outfit (no surprises there, I suppose) and the play area has a couple of buildings (a fort and a chalet/house), vehicles including a double-decker bus and barrel and pallet barricades. The shrubbery is dense and gives good cover while the safe/rest area is canopied by trees but I saw no other wet-weather cover. I played my first airsoft games there on Sunday 27th September and had a cracking time. I think that the marshalls covered the play well and a couple of disputes were quickly and amicably dealt with. Player ranged from about 10years to over 60s and everyone seemed satisfied with how everything was organised.
  12. Forgive me if this is already known but I have ben alerted to a 'new' CQB Airsoft and Laser Combat venue in Shropshire. It's called Kill House CQB (https://www.killhousecqb.co.uk/) and runs games on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, it's all in the website. I have not played there yet so I am merely reporting its existence.
  13. I was going to try making different 'lifters' to replace the ball-bearing and lower the FPS that way but, with the springs being so cheap, I thought I might try cutting different length springs. Are you able to say, @Cromulon1994, if the KJ Works and ASG models share the same spring size? All my researches to date lead me to believe that both models are made in the same factory and just differently branded.
  14. No offers on the spring-thing then? I have emailed ASG in Nottingham twice regarding this and been totally ignored. B**tards! I tried KJ Works and got a reply: Good day *********, Here we sell KJW standard spare parts only in public for replacement service. All the best, Ava Tsao Team KJWORKS No.12, LianMing 1st ST., Bade Dist, Taoyuan City 33466, Taiwan Tel: +886-3-3749793 Ext.15 E-mail: [email protected] Web: www.kjworks.com.tw If those part prices are in US Dollars this as clear a statement of contempt for the consumer as I have ever seen. $30 for a spring is fantasy. KJW Ruger mk 1.pdf EDIT: Excuse me while I eat my words (gulp), the price for the Ruger mk1 mainspring is TW$30 (Taiwan Dollar) which is a bit over $1 US. Shipping costs 4 x as much. I am inclined to buy a bunch of these and sell them on to Ruger mk1 owners so that they can have a choice in the power the gun puts out. Shortening springs is an easy job with a blowtorch and a grinder.
  15. That is undoubtedly the most readable and understandable document I have yet seen on airsoft rifle 'science'. As a 'noob' I am trying to take in all I can on this sport/hobby and that was a joy to read. A HUGE thank you to Adolf Hamster for taking time out of his schedule to write it and to point me to it.
  16. Thank you, Mr Hamster. You have gone 'above and beyond' with this. I don't want to be a PITA but I have become intrigued with the subject and hope that it will give me a better first impression when the pew-pewing starts again.
  17. Can anyone please tell me if they have found a replacement spring for the Ruger mk1? It would be nice to keep it at full power at home but drop the FPS a bit for field play (when that happens again). It seems a much more elegant solution than using different powered gasses for home and away. If not a spring change can replacing the ball bearing with a hemispherical element lower the FPS enough?
  18. This is a very involving subject considering I have yet to skirmish. At present I use my M4 to 'nudge' unwanted bird species off my feeders. I haven't seen a starling in days! I now have most of the gear for a good scrap but I'm afraid I'll be the ATGANI guy when I finally go for a days play.
  19. Can't these little H gizmos be glued to the hop arm to prevent the twisting problem?
  20. This is all very interesting. I take on board everything said here but ask if this little gizmo is another way of improving the contact area of the bucking? They call it an H - Nub and they cost £3.69 delivered, Is it worth it?
  21. So that's it! Thank you very much guys, especially Zarrin. One more question, please. What is the likely bucking rating in a budget AEG and does it improve performance if it is changed to,say, 50 degree in such a gun? Mine is a Cyma M4 CQB something or other and I expect to shoot .25gram BBs
  22. In all the research (that's pronounced risearch not re- search) I have yet to discover why bucking rubbers come in so many different angle settings. Maple Lea seem to be well regarded and prefer 50 degree nubs(?) while other makers use everything between 40 and 70, as far as I remember. Why the different settings? Then there are the soft and hard rubbers; again why? Thanks for all information offered.
  23. Thank you for that huge effort @Sitting Duck; that cost you a fair amount of time an I appreciate it. I don't have a suitable chronoscope for airsoft and so have no yardstick for measuring improvement or the reverse. As I said, I spent a happy hour pursuing my idea for the project and zero pence so it was possibly only my time I wasted. When I find the time I will try it though I feel that it is way too long and will probably droop and spoil everything so I may just shorten it. I don't really know what to do and I'm too busy building benches for my workshop to do very much else anyway. A couple of pictures for any Doubting Thomas'
  24. Putting the cart well ahead of the horse, I spent a happy hour making a barrel extension/mock suppressor for my Cyma cm501 CQB. The inner barrel is a piece of aluminium arrow shaft tapered to seat into the crown of the rifle's barrel. The inner diameter is an excellent match to the rifle's barrel, it seems. The muzzle end is 'crowned and polished'. The outer body of the assembly is made from a solidly-made cardboard inner from some clingfilm and the inner barrel is centred with rubber-bushed washers which fit snugly into the outer tube. The whole assembly gives an additional 255mm to the existing 259mm of the Cyma giving . There is an adaptor (of sorts) to hold the tubing to the rifle's outer barrel and is stabiliser further by the flash hider. Now the question; Assuming it stays aligned with the bore axis is there any point in this much extra barrel? Is it likely to (a) raise the FPS? (b) aid more accurate longer range shooting? (c) be just as effective (whatever that means) at half the length? All contributions welcomed, thanks.
