This. Everyone moans about how new rifs are so often "just another M4" but manufacturers know that's what will sell in high enough numbers to make it worth their while. I'd hazard a guess that of all the people who say they like whatever new non M4 rif is available, less than 10% actually buy one

Off topic, but I love how the shooter starts off aiming down the sights and ends up just hanging on for dear life.

To be honest.....there's only a couple of tweaks.

If you're having fun then you're already doing it right. Personally I'd move the dump pouch to the rear and a more appropriate size helmet

How exactly does the movement of air affect an optical sensor? Take your time answering because my engineering background is in Controls and Instrumentation.

GBBs are not actually that complicated and this sort of problem is not uncommon. Sorry if this seems patronising (I don't know your experience level) but here are some things I think you should investigate before returning the gun.
Is it cold where you live? Try shooting the gun indoors, where it's a bit warmer, to see if higher vapour pressure improves performance. Does the gas canister you're filling from have any actual liquid left in it? If you swirl it around you should hear and feel the liquid sloshing around inside. If there's no liquid in the canister to transfer to the magazine the gun won't shoot more than a handful of shots before venting. Is the magazine filling correctly? If the magazine is completely empty (push the outlet valve with your finger to completely empty it), you should hear the magazine filling with liquid, and then an audible change in tone or cessation of noise when it's full. If you're not sure, try weighing the magazine both empty and full - you should be seeing a difference of at least 5-10g, I should think. The problems I suspect you actually have:
Are the gun's seals dried out? I strongly suspect that your problem lies in the rubber seals in the gun's blowback unit, located in the rear of the slide. If the gun has been sitting on the shelf for a long time, it's possible that those seals have dried out and shrunk, allowing gas to blow by. This cripples efficiency; the rather anaemic blowback you're getting could be a sign of that. You can check this by removing the nozzle to access the seals, and solve it by generously oiling them with silicone oil and letting them soak it up for a couple of hours. Is the gun clean and correctly lubricated? Often guns come very dry from the factory; the slide rails in particular usually need lubricant for the gun to run smoothly. Excessive friction can cause the slide to hang up, which increases the time before the valve knocker is reset, which ruins efficiency. Ideally you should lubricate the rails with a non-petroleum-based grease - I like Froglube. Check to see how smooth the slide feels if you rack it by hand; if it feels resistant or gritty, clean the rails with a paper towel (preferably also with isopropyl alcohol, or warm soapy water) and lubricate them. These last two points are regular maintenance items on any GBB and it is very common for out-of-the-box guns to have these issues.

TMs tend to be much more reliable and higher-performance out of the box, especially in cold weather. Bear in mind that the HK45 does not have a metal slide or outer barrel and it will be almost impossible to get them.

Shopping on WGC and waiting for emails to actually make payment

UPS were the only courier to actually security check airsoft stuff, a friend got a phone call saying he needed velocity declaration for a protec helmet. He said 'depends how hard you throw it'.

UCAP have been against 2 tones since they were an idea, the reasoning is that the defence against the VCRA was that airsoft needed RIFs to aid in the suspension of disbelief when re-enacting military/LE scenarios and IFs undermine that concept.

If you have a FAC, you have to state, in advance what you are requesting. It doesn't give you an authority to purchase anything that's not on there.
It's funny that the people who have mentioned it's ridiculous that they can't buy a RIF have not lamented the fact that they are not permitted to buy shotguns either.
To buy shotguns (unless they are section one and you have slots for them on your FAC), you have to have a shotgun certificate, which is entirely separate from a Firearms Certificate. And easier to get.
And nobody seems to have a problem with that.
"But, but, if I have a FAC, surely I'm alright with a shotgun?" Sure - go and get the right paperwork.
Same thing applies for buying a RIF - If you want it, just jump through the hoops.
It sure as chuff works out cheaper if you do! - Silverback SRS £450 & 2.5p per shot - Desert Tech SRS £6000 & £4 per shot.

For those kind of enough to contribute to this thread, and anyone else who’s interested enough, I thought I’d provide an update on my original post.

Over the weekend my friends and I went for our second day of airsofting at a different site from our first go, and it was awesome.

From the get go the staff were great, instantly welcoming and helpful. Our day was full of fun game modes on a really varied site with the marshals being spot on throughout.

The players were brilliant, friendly and encouraging with a nice focus on teamwork without it being overbearing.

In short, we’re going back again (and probably again and again). All those here that said to stick with it have been proven right in my eyes.

And for those interested, the site was Viper Strike in Dundee. I’d highly recommend it.

True to the above, although I'd note that if the goal of "durability and reliability" is to reduce costs, that there's little point in replacing a part that isn't already worn or broken.

The very cheapest mosfets cost more than multiple sets of trigger contacts.  Unless you're running 11.1V (and even if you are) you're likely to relegate a starter AEG to a backup role before you burn out the contacts.

And CYMA put plastic racked pistons into toys putting out 1.5J as stock.  They won't strip straight away on stock gears and motors.

So there's no need to really do anything other than sort the factory shimming and snot-grease lube.  And even then, I've yet to buy an AEG with bad shimming, even the cheapest CYMA or Galaxy.  Those Chinese child labourers know their business (if they want to eat).

tinkle60 reacted to fbc in Price gouging ?
It’s a different business but hopefully will give some insight from a retailers perspective.

I had someone posted that we had price-gouged him on a pair of tyres. Our sale price was the manufacturers recommended retail price, at which we made 25% profit margin. He purchased his tires as a walk-in customer at 7.30pm - we used to stay open until 9pm to accommodate bike riders working all day. In addition we fitted the tyres for him. Most shops close at 6pm. For us to stay open cost us £80 per hour. So staying open that night cost us £240. I checked the toll records and that night we made 2 sales - the tyres and one cup of coffee. Total sales of £82.50 from which we made a gross profit of £21.50. As a result we lost £218.50. In his negative Google review he suggested that we should have price matched an online discounter. Had we matched their price we would have made 50p from the tyres! And the online guys don’t offer to fit them for free, or give him the convenience  of picking him up his tyres in time for him to ride to work the following morning.
As you can imagine the words ‘price gouging’ is a very emotive one for me.  So all I would say is don’t always jump to the conclusion that the retailer is always out to gouge you. There’s always the option of not buying from anyone you think is gouging. But sometimes perhaps they’re just trying to make enough to pay their bills and feed their kids.
