    Hi folks,

Some pictures of the recent Red Mist 4 event.

Had an absolute blast at the weekend.

I did a couple of weekday night games last week.  Thursday evening at South Coast CQB and then Friday evening at Ironsight.

First time back at SCCQB for a couple of years.  Cool site for sure. A shame about a few people kicking off with accusations of overshooting.  It seemed that some people hadn't fully grasped that at a night game, it is more important than skirmishing in daylight that you make clear you've been hit with a loud "hit" and putting your arm up.  I saw multiple instances of people doing neither and then having a little hissy fit.  I don't know about everyone else, but I shoot at someone until they make it clear they're hit...

Also, shout out to the absolute madlad (and lady) rentals on our team that decided their first airsoft experience would be a night game.  Legends. They seemed to have fun and enjoy the evening.

Ironsight.  Again, a cool site.  The rain just about held off until right at the end which was nice.  Excellent hit taking and all round play.  I got some very satisfying kills.  I'm pretty sure I shot someone in the face on the top level of the bus so sorry if that was you and you're reading this ha.

So an update, over the past couple of months, I've slowly sanded off the original varnish and just about finished recoating.

I used 3x coats of water based wood stain (Dark Walnut), then 3x coats of Danish oil.  I picked up a repro butt plate and tarnished with some salt & vinegar, it's not perfect fit, but better than the metal one it comes with.

Happy enough with it, it's far from perfect, but then that adds a bit of character 🙂

I'm by no means old (27) but spending the majority of my teens to early adult hood 14-24 training and fighting (Muay Thai) paired with a labour intensive job, my body is pretty knackered already, constant aches and pains, I can't shrug my shoulders without my collar bones clicking, so I'm screwed as I get older 🤦‍♂️🤣.

Top tip for you guys.. deep heat is a no go, it heats the surface of the skin giving you a nice placebo of warmth and heat but doesn't really penetrate deep into your muscles. Do yourselves a favour Get some tiger balm instead, they come in red  and white, I recommend to get the red stuff, but try both and see which your prefer if the red is too intense for you, They're only small, but a little goes a long way. I used to swear by this when I was fighting. Also invest in some Thai oil (Namman) and rub this onto your 'injuries' or 'weak' points (for me it's usually legs, knees, ankles, lower back) before a skirmish or exercise, it does wonders in preventing injuries like pulled muscles etc, I used to put this on every day before I trained, be warned it does have a strong smell but it's not a bad one at all, I love it! (smells very similar to deep heat) if you've ever been in a fight gym, you will know exactly what I'm talking about. All very good stuff and a worthy investment for messed up bodies and/or preventive measures!

Lastly, stretch, stretch and stretch! Both before and after skirmishes. The amount of injuries and niggly pains that can be prevented by getting the muscles warm and stretched out before a game day is immeasurable. Everyone (including myself) often neglects this, but we shouldn't.. We might not realise it when we're out there blasting people with our new little pew pews, but Airsoft is intense on the body! You've got heavy gear, you're running, jogging, crouching, crawling, jumping, Airsoft is a workout in itself, we just don't realize it because we're too busy having fun 🤣.

I source most of my gear through EBay , mostly for collecting sake so for me all that’s required is a little patience for the right piece or a little cash on standby for that bargain popping up

This Eagle MPCR in excellent condition was £85 , absolutely bomb proof rig , comfy and loads of load carriage should you want it .

Finding a good/"perfect" set up requires trial, error, and money. and that is for those of us without a skin condition or similar.

The sad fact is that you are looking for the impossible: something that offers complete face protection, is comfortable, and doesn't interfere with playing the game. i reckon that for the majority of people that play airsoft for long enough go with less protection rather than more.

i suggest that you basically have two lines of protection which are modular and allow you "min max" as best you can.

firstly you want a pair of goggles or glasses that fit underneath a helmet. i don't know what to suggest here tbh.
for protecting your teeth and to a certain extent, nose i would go with this:  https://www.tactical-clothing.co.uk/product/laylax-aeroflex-face-guard-black-12671 i would guess that the silicon is less irritating than mesh/cordura or what have you.
i would also consider a balaclava, depending on skin irritation you may need to experiment between synthetic (i like underarmour "heatgear" balaclava) or something like merino wool or variants thereof be it smartwool or whatever. I've found these to be more or less essential for wearing helmets for a long period of time as the pads "glide" over the balaclava rather than your hair and follicles or whatever else.

after that i think a helmet with visor is probably the best bet for protecting your face. this means that you can flip the visor up or down depending on your risk tolerance and so forth. i think any helmet with a visor would do, but i would recommend getting a decent set of pads and a retention system with a boa (or similar) dial to allow you adjust the tension on the fly. comfort really is king.  with a visor you will benefit from a gun with a funky "visor" stock and a sight on a tall mount as has already been mentioned. money aside there's no disadvantage to this really.

    good luck.

Did the Halloween game at Gunman Tuddenham this weekend, it was a night game and wow, I don't think I have ever seen a company put more effort into an event, let alone for just a 3 hour event.

Around 70 players on site for it.

    They had:
A pre game story A pre game video An aliens style egg/nest room Multiple alien face huggers 2 Fully dressed up, masked up Predators with appriate props, spears, skulls and spinal cords etc 2 Fully dressed up Xenomorphs  A small (5 people I think) crew of space marines, with pulse rifles, those mounted machine guns things (not sure their real name), armour helmets, light over the shoulder etc.  Also they shouted out appropriate lines from the movies as they got stuck into contacts.   A set piece including the space marines unwelding a door with props A Predator hide/ritual room with "skinned" victims outside.  Pretty darn good hit taking for a night game.  Multiple prop signs Appropriate sound effects based on whether it was alien or predator.  Custom software interface to get mission objects (which failed on the night, but the effort!) A motion sensor scanner prop And during all of this they wove in 4 Objective based games which were thoroughly enjoyable all on their own.

I'd strongly recommend checking out gunmans instagram to see images of what they did.

I had the same thing as Alvin and it was totally fine (short version I pretty much answered no or n/a to every question which didn't specify parts)

There is a question whereby if you put "yes" to RIF parts, they want you to "confirm the use of the RIF as above" - I did mark the question as "yes" but did not confirm the use of the RIF "as above" cause.. it's not a RIF.

I may be paranoid but I'd encourage anyone who has this form for parts to not include anything vaguely "ukara-ry" or "defency", just in case they start demanding ukara or whatever for just parts. I still have a copy so if you want to take a look let me know and I can ping it over.

Tokyo Marui MWS SOCOM URG-I Build

Having started purchasing parts in February, having had some time off last week, I finally got round to building her.

    Parts list:

    ·        Tokyo Marui MWS M4A1 Carbine base
    ·        HAO Mk16 13.5” handguard
    ·        HAO SOCOM Daniel Defense 14.5” outer barrel
    ·        HAO Surefire 4-prong flash hider
    ·        HAO Geiselle low profile gas block
    ·        HAO Geiselle Ultra Precision trigger guard
    ·        HAO Geiselle Super Precision 1.93” scope mount
    ·        HAO SF 556 SOCOM suppressor (hardcore version)
    ·        Angry Gun Geiselle Airborne Charging Handle
    ·        Magpul K2+ grip
    ·        Magpul M-LOK hand stop
    ·        Magpul SL Stock
    ·        Magpul BAD lever
    ·        BavTac Magic Hop Nub
    ·        Bavtac Titanium Zet Plate
    ·        BavTac 140% nozzle return spring
    ·        Vortex Crossfire II 1-4x 24 scope
    ·        WADSN metal NGAL
    ·        Element Surefire M600C Scout light
    ·        Blue Force Gear padded VCAS (Olive Drab)
    ·        Blue Force Gear QD sling swivel x2

The build took a bit longer than I anticipated for a couple of reasons, mainly removing the trigger box to install the BavTac Zet plate. What an absolute bastard to remove and it took an age. In the process I also managed to dislodge one of the sear springs, so I had to open the trigger box to re-seat it.

Fitting the HAO rail was more troublesome than I remember when I installed the 9.3” version. Getting one of the bolts to slide through the groove on the barrel nut wasn’t as slick this time.

The rest of the externals were fine, standfast the trigger guard, which needed material removing to fir properly. This was slightly annoying/disappointing as HAO are usually ninjas with their products. Anyway, a few minutes filing got it fitted nice and flush.

Apart from the Zet plate, hop nub and nozzle return spring, the gun has stock internals.

Out of the box, on ASG Ultrair, the gun was pinging .28s out to 60m at around 1.1j, with the effective range being around 50-55m.

Range and power-wise, it’s still in the same ballpark as out of the box, with the GM Pmags giving a 5-8 fps increase, adding barely noticeable increase to the power output. Using heavier ammo though, wow! Using .32s it was getting to the 70m mark with loads of adjustment left on the hop.

However, accuracy was all over the place, with BBs pinging every which way with no consistency. Tearing the front end down again, the hop rubber and hop chamber were covered in silicon oil. Rookie mistake! Hoping that’s solved it because when they flew straight it was awesome.

So, what’s good and what’s bad about the latest addition to my arsenal? The good; well, it’s an MWS! It works and works and works. The BavTac Zet plate is awesome, with the bolt catching every time, even with the Guns Modify Pmags, and the MHN is a serious contender for the SixG brass nub. The finished gun, although fairly commonplace, also looks incredible IMHO.

The bad? Apart from the hop/silicon debacle, not much more than the suppressor really. I made a huge mistake getting the hardcore version. It’s beautifully finished and the QD system is great, compared with the Angry Gun version I have. It’s just too damned heavy though at 525g. I really should have bought the standard version.

How I’ll feel lugging this around an airsoft field tomorrow I don’t know, but I’m chuffed with the result!

Second hand set of clubs from the charity shop £15, bag from same £5, and practice on the school field after the kids have fucked off home, £8 a round at my local ancient uncared for site... OR £2K on clubs alone and £100 per hour lessons, sky's the limit club fees etc.

I use the same DAM rod that my grandfather bought me for my ninth birthday, along with the tacklebox and seat that my dad got me for he same event.   £150 a year ticket at one of the county's best waters.  Or you could do marlin in the Caribbean and pretend to be Hemmingway for Christ knows.

Anyhow, airsoft.  Like George I play once a month but March to October filmsim or milsim (350 mile round trip so £80 diesel plus £75 ticket).  Skirmish a few times in the winter.  Much prefer to get away properly once a month and truly unwind, but then Mrs TPH travelled a lot for work in her earlier youth, so family hols are not required, and since we play together with our lad, and sometimes our daughter, it is family time.

Leaving the heavy theory out of it.  If you decide to learn new lessons when undertaking the same task, you'll get more out of it.  Apply it to hobbies and they don't get stale.  Complex airsoft games employ so many skills that I doubt I've enough life left to exhaust them even if I did develop them.

Interesting thread. I try to get get a "milsim"/24h(+) game once a month between october-may, with some skirmishes sprinkled in between. Sometimes we'll travel to a particularly cool site and get an airbnb the night before. And I tend to take summer off just because of holidays and that sort of stuff. And real life gets in the way too. I managed to get ill 3 times in a row between october and december last year so had to pass up on some games.

For me getting to a 24h game is £200 taking into account ticket, fuel and food. It's about 20hours of play (say 4hrs sleep) and about 8 hours of driving total. The sites near me are around an hour away so i think I get good value-for-money-for-time. But I do notice it leaving my bank account of course. I would like to get to skirmishes more. If the difference is either going by myself or not going at all, I'll go by myself. But if I do go by myself its half "i have the itch" and half "i have a new bit of kit i want to try out but don't want to take it for a first spin at a 24h game".  The thread about "fireteams" sums it up really. When your "normal" is playing with your friends in a somewhat organised squad, with a squad and command radio net (even if comms can be iffy!) then my expectations for a skirmish aren't lower as such, they're just different.

I would like to do more skirmishes next year though. Mostly because I am moving so I want to check out some sites i've not been to whilst I have the chance. And when I do move I'll be closer to my airsoft friends so easier to do skirmishes with them. (when it comes to the 24h games we are equally far away, just in different directions). I'll also have quite a few really cool sites all within about an hours drive so that'll be nice too. I also hope to have some "life changes" which will probably impact my ability to go away for entire weekends but whatever i think it'll be worth it.

Had an amazing time at the Stirling Airsoft 36 hour milsim event this last weekend. Think I got about 5 hours sleep in total, didn't stop doing various taskings including close target recces, attacking the patrol base and ambushing vehicle convoys. Glad I made it my annual weekender!!

If anyone wants a full on rural milsim event then I can't recommend one run by Stirling enough, more than happy to do a full write up but probably not that different to the one I've done previously.

Scored a steel version Bear Paw SVU GBB a while ago and wanted something special in regards of optics for it.
Looked around a bit and finally got my hands on a rare 1P21 scope - very large russian scope that has been used on the SVD.

I'm not sure if any of these have ever been used on the real SVU, standard for this was the PSO-1 scope. It's also not possible to mount large scope mounts like the one of the 1P21 on an SVU without disassembling it, as these are pushed onto the side rail from the rear, which can't be done on the SVU.

I usually try to go more or less authentic, but here I didn't care - it just looks so nicely badass 😋
