  1. damn the cold weather killed my batteries today, so many lock ups on semi. pretty good day all the same

    1. Monkman

Lent my ICS MARS to one of our team guys..with a 2600mAh 7.4 lipo...ran it dry.  It was a tad cold. (Me? I ran HPA..no issues..)  :)

  2. Is matrix compatable with cyma?  trying to work out if the matrix SVD wood kit would fit on my svd.

    evike is not clear https://www.evike.com/products/47324/

Odds are it could well be a Cyma kit as Matrix are their own ‘in-house’ brand , all the stuff is bought in then re-branded as Matrix . Totally agree with Lozart about Evike they are very shall we say slap dash with international customers . As they’ve pretty much got the west coast market in their pocket their attitude if there’s a problem is “and what ya gonna do about it from the other side of the world ?”
Just so fecking annoying the way they’ve got so many thing you just can’t find anywhere else ! 🤬

    3. Lozart
    4. kasaran

i doubt that would work, the Cyma is an aeg and the motor is in the grip, front grip need to clam-shell too for the battery.  i mean.... it would work with a lot of fettling, but i lack the skill or gear to do that. (if i had the ability, id have made a wooden stock for my m14 by now)

  3. gaming is bad for my wallet... never been too interested in SCAR H's but after COD modern warfare and Insergency Sandstorm, i find myself eyeing-up the double bell in tan

    1. strykerles

I've been on the fence about getting one for a while, where did you find it?

    2. kasaran

no where, just out of stock on taiwan gun, though post brexit, i dunno if i would ever try to order from them again.  UPS still being a shitshow

  4. is there a point paying extra for faster delivery from patrol base?  my last two orders have basically been 48hr delivery with me paying for the slower option.  not complaining, just surprised

    2. Impulse

Yeah, I only ever go for their "slower" option, ever since they started sending their faster packages through UPS and UPS lost my parcel. I still got my stuff, because Patrolbase sent the items again and refunded the ones that were then out of stock, but it was really annoying and I almost didn't have my AAP-01 for AI500.

Their slower option usually arrives within 2 or 3 days at most anyway, so there's really no point shelling out more money for an inferior service :P

    3. Rogerborg

Nah, I wouldn't bother.  When they're rammed, they can't guarantee same day dispatch, then the actual delivery is out of their hands as well.  Just expect the worst and be delighted when it comes faster.

    4. Druid799

I’d never pay for ‘premium’ delivery for one simple reason , 90% of British Airsoft retailers have shite customer service (the ones who actually do care about their customers generally seem to give super fast delivery already) so to me your just wasting your hard earned beer tokens on a service your just NOT going to get .

  5. anyone else finding Patrol Base's website not working well atm?  not loading pictures or updating filters

    1. Rogerborg

Looks OK to me. Desktop, Brave browser.

    2. EDcase

      Yeah, I noticed that.

You now have to allow cookies for it to show pictures and sort.

      Dodgy shit

  6. Nuprol spray paints..... garbage, do not recommend.

better off buying proper paint manufacturer stuff

room temp and shaken well, the missus (having a history with spray cans) did the base coat and found them to be bad.  oddly enough, the brown one was better, the khaki/tan one was the trouble maker.

    3. AirSniper

As with any paint job, the result is only as good as the prep work you put in.

Ask any paint shop tech, they spend most of their time in prep of the piece to then spend a fraction of the actual time a job takes to put the top coat on.

Also the surface you are applying the paint to, even with self primers, unless the proper primer coat is used to bond with the substance you are painting, then any job you do will likely be looking like your underwear after a blow out with the lads and that curry resurfaced rather prompt like...

Do you know what you are painting? Some metals do not take a paint job well unless they have been properly painted with a base primer that is able o etch in and give a bonding layer. Some polymers will not take certain types of paints. That will not be down to any polymer, it could be that manufacturers blend or that batch may have a different blend of chemicals.

Many reasons exist for a paint job to not come out well, including operator error and how that operator applies that paint.

Judging from your comments, my main points address what you are likely having a problem with... its not likely the paint and if you say you did the job right then its not you, leaving the only thing left... the piece you are working on.

Have you thought about asking the manufacturer about paints that will bond?

    4. kasaran

Surprised to see people defending nuprol paints...  the criticism being that having used TTCombat and more often Tamiya spray paints (which are worth the extra bob), the Nuprol stuff comes out inconsistantly, thick and very watery.  It is sold as suitable for metals and plastics and being Nuprol it will be aimed at the airsoft market whereas the others target model builders.

oddly enough though, the finish i got was actually pretty good, and it was certainly the tan/khaki can that was the worst culprit.  But for ease of use? spend the extra few £.

  7. A lot of 'a friend of mine ' posts of late

    1. Rogerborg

      Canadian girlfriends?

    2. LukeJLFC

same thing happened to my buddy eric.

    3. Steveocee

You're just jealous because you don't have that many friends to ask for.

  8. Spent time yesterday successfully modifying my G&P M203 to work with my Master Mikes.  Looking forward to finally using them, I decide to double check that I can use them at Finmere....  No, I cant.  Bugger

    1. strykerles

been pondering getting a couple myself but I think most sites have banned them and the 40 mikes

    2. kasaran

I know a few places allow them.  Just feel the 40mike made everyone nervous about allowing them.

    3. Druid799

Classic example of being tarred with the same brush ?

I never liked the idea of the 40 and when I saw one in action it just confirmed my fears in the wrong hands(which we have to admit there are a LOT of in Airsoft) it could do some serious damage , but when you come down to it the master mike is just a ‘normal’ moscart with an Incredible Hulk shoved up its arse ! 😳

  9. i think my LCT G3 is cursed.  when it works its great, hops 0.28s like a lazer.  my one repaired mag with stretched spring feeds fine.... the other 4 need stretching (joys)

yesterday the batteries (NMiH's) popped, got super hot and swollen.  the gun stopped firing and now its stuck on full auto.  I guess LCT dont have fuses as its clearly fried something.  now to find a repair shop, sadly my local are too busy to take it in....

    1. Lozart

Have you considered fitting different springs instead of stretching them? These have always worked well for me when I need to rejuvenate mags https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/maple-airsoft-super-feed-3-pack-midcap-magazine-springs-gen-2

  10. So, all 5 LCT G3 midcaps have had their innards raised as suggested on a thread on here.  one of them i opened up and stretched the spring slightly to see if that helps.  it was a nightmare to reassemble, but got there in the end.

house testing, the spring stretch mag emptied a full mag.  the only raised innard mags (1 of them at least) emptied a full mag of 0.2 and 0.28 bbs.  hopefully they all fire until empty this sunday and all will be well.

  11. so tried to fix my lct g3 mids.  Thr wedge stick method didnt work for me.  Which sucked.  The bolt now for some reason not biting the allen key.  The second attempt i went for stacking watchers.  But the bolt is not long enough.... going well thus far...

    1. Terrywristt

To get my LCT g3 mids to feed i had to replace the springs, the stock ones are woefully bad

    2. kasaran

how on earth do you get the springs back in?

  12. TM G19 or TM G18c hmmmmmmmmmm

Full-auto on a pistol is a bit pointless. It's usually inappropriate to use it at the distance a pistol would be your go to and it also sends the accuracy to shit.

The G19 has updated internals and better externals, plus fits RS holsters. The FN57 is a bit like holding on to the back of a bus.

      TLDR: G19.

    3. Steveocee
    4. kasaran

I have a g17. In black and tan but co2 and a kjw.  So the g19 or 18 was to be a bit different and for tm goodness (that and my local site doesnt allow co2 so its outings are limited).

Moot point now though. Holding off hitting the buy button after finding out a bigger pew is due in stock in a couple weeks.

    4. Tactical Pith Helmet

      Tactical Pith Helmet

Airsoftzone have a compatibility list for the Combat Union unit.

  14. so, a quick sand and the hop up fits.  On first test, it lost 100fps.... not sealing around the nozzle.   Greased up the interface where the hopup joins the gearboc and boom, 330fps.  Thats a 30fps gain from putting a 340mm barrel in place of a 210mm barrel in what was a CM raider.

  15. so the ZCI rotary hop unit is a very tight fit into the combat machine outer barrel

    2. strykerles

I've found most hop units generally do have a gap, brought some brass rings from ebay and sorted it

    3. colinjallen

It is quite normal for there to be a gap; that is what the brass ring is for.

    4. Monkman

I think Luke put them in my guns I sent to him to get fixed..yep, very tight fitting..but awesome as well. :)

  16. damn, specna mk18 back in stock, but do i wait to get the TM ngrs....

will bare in mind, its all new to me, never done any gearbox work before.  the ex rental combat machine is very much a guinea pig

    3. Groot

      Find "Negative Airsoft" on YouTube.

Love or hate the guy, hes a very good guide on how to build a gearbox correctly.

    4. Misery

if your considering a mosfet id throw in a perun v2 hybrid again available fro our lovely ak2m4,also the m4 compression kit upgrade from ak2m4 is another gd call improved my m4 no end

  18. odd thought on cylinder compression etc.  i have a secondhand CM16 shorty firing at 297fps.  i assume the interior is the same as the longer barreled version.... so would that mean i may see a jump by putting in a longer barrel?  else they would have different cylinders or fire with a lower fps than this one?  (this is ignoring the airseal)

    1. Skara

Depending on the cylinder, yes, a longer barrel will boost the energy output.

Installing the same exact gearbox in a wider range of guns is just one way to cut corners (imagine having to tune each gearbox)

    2. Rogerborg

It's possible, and plausible, and even likely, but I wouldn't want to leap to any conclusions.

If you're wanting to improve the air seal and energy, I'd start with just squirting some silicone oil or spray up the nozzle, swish it around, then blow it out the nozzle before re-assembling.  You can also get some in behind the piston head via the cylinder cut out.

    3. kasaran

The gearbox sounds alright so that is something im trying not to crack open.  im trying for a more classic M4 look, so i have ordered a 4 inch outer barrel extension which will allow for a longer inner barrel.  So if the theory is right that they use the same gearbox etc in all varients of combat machine, will give it just a little more fps without having to open the gearbox (another 20 to 30 fps would do nicely.)  The current plan is a new hop-up assembly inc rubber and buckings with a longer inner barrel.  open to recommendations on good hopup units not gone aftermarket for these before

  19. Are those Gate EU Warfet things worth it?  do they do much being just wired in the battery compartment?

      Adolf Hamster

      depends on what you want.

but they do offer a lot of functionality such as burst, precocking etc.

    3. kasaran

So with one not wired into the gearbox would still help trigger response?

    4. Adolf Hamster

      Adolf Hamster

that's what precocking is, when setup right.

  20. UKARA reaquired... watchout airsoft retailers.... or should that be look out bank account?

      A tick! uuurghhh!

    3. kasaran

Nasty things.  I had my top tucked into my bottoms.  Long sleeves, full trousers, army boots and gloves.  The thing somehow got in and crawled up to within 4 inches of my gentlemen bits on my inner thigh.  How it got there i cannot fathom.  Glad i got it out alive, though with normal tweezers.  Think im gonna buy some tick ones to carry on me next time

    4. Davegolf

hah i bet you freaked out when you took your bottoms off and saw it! i would! Alien invader!!!

  22. So my favourite site is closing down and selling the rental gear.  Nabbed a combat machine for cheaps. Something to tinker on without me worrying too much about destroying the gat.

Plan to slowly upgrade parts to see if i can get it going well and learn teching.  Any advice on what parts to go for first. Im guessing the usual barrel and hopup assembly first.

Need to find out which CM it is first tho. Collecting sunday. It is the M4 variety, the first and only M4 i have ever owned

    1. Tactical Pith Helmet

      Tactical Pith Helmet

I like them a lot.  I've a tight bore barrel on mine, standard green hop rubber and a ZCI plastic rotary hop.  It has a lazy mans plug and play Burst Wizard 4 'fet.

The barrel support is weak, the controls lack much feel or deliberate clicks and they feel a bit flimsy beside a steel receivered rifle, but they are very light and the M4 ergonomics are hard to beat/fuck up.

I keep mine switched to full with the burst set to single shot and spam the trigger with manly abandon.  It's had scores of thousands of rounds through it.  Never misses a beat.

I've a second that I've bought to get silly with tuning wise.

  23. Anyone got recommendations for a good single pouches for ak47/akm magazines? Find double stacks a little awkward

    1. GAMBLE

      Hi @kasaran! 👋

I’ve used a variety of pouches and rigs. Is there anything in particular you have in mind? 🤔

    2. hitmanNo2
    3. kasaran

See i have some like that. But the back of akm mags has a thin metal strip.  Something that would likely cut through rubber/plastic retention pouches. Or so id think?

  24. first game for the last 14 months.  proof that expensive doesnt=good

LCT G3A3 mags all feed only half a mag before being unreliable, sometimes feeding, sometimes not (on both 28s and 25s).  £300+ gun £23 mags...

raged onto my backup: CYMA AK74m flawless £100

first time outing for both of them.  the G3 fires like a beast stock, and hop does 0.28's well, its just the damn mags.  wonder if JG mags work?

    1. Show previous comments  8 more
    2. Iceni

It's not the springs. It's the mag inner sitting too far out of the feed tube allowing the bb retention nub to close. If you pull on the front bottom of the mag they will feed again as this pushes the nub back open. You need to shim your mag inners higher at the rear, and securely peg them in place.

I had to do the same thing with my LCT midcaps. And the review I wrote also mentions this and has the shimming solution. If that solution doesn't make sense just PM me, I had another guy asking about it a few months ago in PM's and I did him a more detailed explanation of the modification.

You need to inspect you mags first before you take them to bits.

The part I refer to as rollovers (blue) are the sides of the metal part of the mag where the mag comes up and over the feed nozzle. The goal is to get the top of the feed tube (purple) to be in line with the rollovers - as show by the magazine top line (red). See image.

In order to get the feed nozzle to be inline with those rollovers you are going to have to make a few modifications to both parts of the mag.

The plastic internal bit needs a chamfer (Angled edge) filing onto the leading edge of the magazine (orange second image).

The metal tang (green) needs bending out a little to allow the plastic parts to sit higher.

Once you have the feed nozzle in line with the magazine top line doing these actions you will then need to shim the plastic parts into place.

I made pegs/wedges. All they are is plastic that has been shaped to hold the plastic part of the magazine tight to the magazine top line. Those wedges are long enough that the magazine base plate holds them in and up. Stopping the feed tube falling away from the hop unit in the gun.

    3. kasaran

Much thanks for the extra detail.  Will likely have a crack one of these weekends.

As for your pegs, are they made from scratch or modded from something readily available?

    4. Iceni

I had some 5mm x 6mm plasticard lengths for building models. The business end got whittled to a taper.
