Ok, I heated the end of the spring and compressed about 15 mm ish. Put it all back together and it was totally dead!! Stripped it apart, and slipped, it all went flying all over the floor! Bollocks!!!!! So reshimmed, rebuilt, reassembled and it shoots lovely but stitting at a reasonably consistent 305fps on .28s so 1.2j. Still a little spicy. It was around 320fps on .28s - 1.3j.
I've had a look but can't find a spring thats 160mm so I'll probably just heat/compress a little more. Not today though.

Sorry Oli but the truth is that's just a toy and not real airsoft.  There's nothing you can do with it.
The cheapest pistol you can get that's actually worth having is THIS one or THIS full setup.

Its probably the exhaust valve. If you can, take it out and oil it or replace the o rings.

The horror stories are mostly caused by people 'upgrading' one component and not everything then wondering why the steel munches their pot metal existing components.

Find a site near you,make a booking as a rental player(I'm assuming you don't have any kit yet) and go along. You will need some sensible oldish clothes but make sure you are well covered. Good sturdy boots with ankle support are a must as is good quality eye protection with ballistic rating of En166,En172. No eye pro no play.
 
As a rental you will get a gun,battery and ammo.there will probably be full face masks if you want. It would be a good idea to use them to start with. You will still need your eye pro though.
 
Talk to people there,you will find them ready and willing to help you out with any questions.(I wouldn't though cause I'm an anti social git!)
 
If you enjoy it and want to carry on then that's good but be prepared to spend 😂

I don't have any specific experience with the SCAR line but I can say that WE are decent for the price 👍
The trigger components do tend to wear faster than with more expensive GBBR companies but as Gavin said, parts are available from KYAirsoft.  (I have bought quite a few bits too)
You can also get a Steel trigger pack from Ra-Tech like THIS (Reliable shop)

I've not fielded mine yet due to a previous owner fecking up an npas installation but it was easily fixed with the parts I got from kyairsoft.
I'm a Scar fanboi & this is probably one of my favourite pews, kinda waiting for decent weather to use it in game but recently ordered some red gas but I suspect it might be a bit hot for my local site (hense the npas), I got 5 or 6 mags with it & 2 of them have lost the base plate so make sure your's are solid on the mag.
The mags are hefty so use sharpshooter sized mag pouches if you wear molle.
 
fyi... I found it easy to strip down for maintenance but make sure ALL the screws are tight as I found a couple of my body screws loose & one was missing (assuming they loosened due to the GBB).
I'm sure I've seen a couple in the classifieds with missing or broken fore sights so check it over & tighten/adjust them as you see fit.

As for what to buy I recommend renting for your first 3 games as the site will provide you with a gun and face protection so all you'll need to have is decent footwear (many outdoor sites insist you wear boots not trainers as they provide less grip the risk of twisting your ankle is far higher). There are laws governing the sale of airsoft guns so without a site membership you'll be stuck with having to buy a brightly coloured 2 tone gun (assuming you're 18 or over). Renting also means you'll be able to get a better idea of what suits you

No you don't need to buy any thing to start with but a pair of boots with ankle support and a good pair of ballistic rated goggles/glasses are a must have. Just search on t'internet for Airsoft eyprotection but make sure they have an ansi z87 +1 rating.
 
You will have to contact your nearest site and book a game as a rental player and the site will provide you with a gun,ammo,face protection/mask they probably will have eye pro for sale but get your own to be on the safe side.
 
Wear some old clothes but make sure your skin is covered.
Enjoy but be prepared to spend lots lol

First couple of times you play you dont need to buy anything. You can rent it all from the site. Once the bug has bitten you though, a good set of eye protection and a decent set of boots should high on your purchase list.

Heavier IS better but you don't HAVE to use them.
Use whatever you have and see how they fly.

Another possibly obvious question - noting that the gun contains a mosfet, there may well be a drain on the battery when it is connected. Are you leaving the battery in it, and connected? If you have done that, even for a few days, it is possible that you have drained the lipo to a voltage that has caused damage to the battery - i.e. it won't really take charge any more.
 
When you buy a replacement battery, as per the suggestions above (i have found Turnigy batteries, purchased from Hobbyking good and super cheap), ensure that you never store the battery connected, and ideally store the battery at a  2/3rds  charge (a so called 'storage charge' if you aren't using it for a month or so,

If you got a good balance charger it may recover the nuprol battery enough to use.
Keep the other names in mind when buying any new batteries. (its always good to take a few batteries on a game day)
