A site review from my recent trip to Skirmish Leicester. Enkoy!

Hate it when you've packed the car and are ready 10 minutes early. Feels like you've forgotton something.

Skirmish Mansfield review now up on R101 https://recon101.uk/sites/skirmish-mansfield-22-08-2020/

Finding myself really wanting an ARP-556

Have discovered the exciting world of hi capa modification. Oh boy this'll hurt the MasterCard.
-
@trojan1106 where's the fun in building it up though then?
-
Seeing some sites opening in June. Surely this can't be right?

I read through the requirements outlined on the BBC for competitive sports and it included a requirement for testing facilities at the point of entry along with a myriad of other things which to me would indicate it's a bit of premature move. I guess it's just a case of "wait and see" but to be honest I can't see myself returning until things have settled considerably.
-
As much as I want to play, I would be inclined to wait until it’s advised and likely to be back to normal. I get some places are able to host smaller groups etc but 3v3 or games with squads of 6 in a woodland setting do not appeal to me.
I think returning for the sale of returning early would cause more issues personally.

And now my G18C needs to fly the nest (link) 😢

TRMR anyone? Linky

Thought I found a H8r in stock then. Nearly wee'd but no, not in stock.
-
I found one in Denmark? Old school Email style ordering.
But it's only 54ish quid. They are a legit business. You have to order first and then they will calculate shipping and invoice for payment.

@Asomodai what a gem you are! I've just dropped them an email and ordery thingy to see what they come back with. As long as they don't destroy me on shipping this could work out really well.

It's taken 8 weeks but the ghillie is done! Cannot wait to try it out.

Nah it's not as popular as plastic leaves, mostly due to its cost and lack of availability (you can only get it from LCS or Theyma)
I reckon it's more versatile than leaves as it doesn't have that awful plasticky look (no matter how much you try to mod them, they'll still look out of place).
My ghillies are going to be mostly cotton, some HS whenever I get my hands on some and some hair bands for real vegetation (you can't beat nature, can you?).
Jute has its application for sure, but as you said most plebs just pile up strands upon strands and end up looking like a meth addicted wookie who's just gone through a car wash.

Start of another week, keep your chins up guys. I know I'm starting to struggle a bit but I'm OK with that.
-
NEVER throw parts away. There will always be somewhere you can use them. Check out the latest Recon101 blog post.

I'm really missing Airsoft now ☹️

Ghillie update. Day 2. Nobody warned me how boring this would be. Genuinely want to stab myself in the eye with my craft needle.
-
This sounds about right... However, at the end remember that you'll have a pretty unique product that will properly stand out on the field... in the safe zone because no one will see you in the field (because nobody makes their own ghillie these days because they can just buy a pre-made leaf suit and be done with it)
It's worth it in the end. I'm doing mine too and it's hell. We'll get there eventually! xD

3 Weeks odd to kill?? Just pulled the ghillie base and yarns out.
-
@Impulse very similar boat.
I'm using a modified webtex in that is been cut off at the back where the belt strap is and stitched so it doesn't fall apart then using Helikon ghillie fibres for the yarn, just like burlap only they won't go up in flames.
Using a self threading needle to get the yarns into the base cloth to leave elastic free for foliage.
-
Anyone else bored yet?

Not yet, servicing all the guns, garden plinking and giving the cars a serious clean inside and out should keep me busy for a good while. Then I'm sure The Boss will find me a few little jobs to do round the house ! Just hope I've got enough BBs to last
Oh and cruising the Gun porn on the interweb and compiling a huge wish list 🤣

Hello, I appreciate you may have some stock flow issues ATM but do you know when you'll be getting some more suppressors in? Really trying to get my hands on something 200mm long with a diameter 30-34mm?

Alas mine isn't that long....
it is what you do with it I tell Mrs Duck
(but she responds all small owners say that)
they are about still if Pete is out...

Ordered a couple of bits from two different AliExpress sellers on the 28th of January, one dispatched pretty quickly and arrived on the 18th of February. Notification that the other has been dispatched received two days ago. Seems like some stuff is moving but it's very hit and miss.
Personally speaking, as long as it's not a return of bubonic plague (death toll 70-200 million) or Spanish flu (death toll 40-50 million) then I'm not too concerned. The "regular" flu virus kills 300,000-500,000 people a year (source), current global death toll appears to be around 2,800 out of 82,000 reported cases (source), a mortality rate of 3.4%, this obviously does not take into account unreported cases of those people who felt a bit unwell for a couple of weeks, didn't bother seeing a doctor and recovered without an issue, resulting in figures giving more weight to the death toll.
Context is a wonderful thing but doesn't sell newspapers. Either that or I've just become overly cynical following year after year after year of the latest "panic".

Deans connectors ordered. How badly can I screw this up?

Great advice from @Rogerborg I learnt this the hard way
-
And queue a fantastic video pop up in my YT subscription feed from @Armourpiercing. Impeccable timing dude.
-
yeah I saw that with connector set & vice etc...
saw that this morning - nice dsg vid too
I was thinking of buying a Titan on my wish list with Seigetek etc...
After watching the vid I am even more determined to
NOT buy a Titan
Good vid, amazing build - heck 7.4v would have done
but as Luke said he did it to prove a point
not he can't build it, but chooses NOT to build wanker guns
-
Quick! Someone go make an airsoft site out of it https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8011865/Ghost-ship-washed-Irish-coast-Storm-Dennis-drifting-thousands-miles.html

@L3wisD It does, even if you prep really well (lots-o-sanding) the final outcome is very textured as you're applying relatively thick amounts with a sponge. On RIFs I see it as a good thing as it's quite grippy and matt. I guess you could sand it back and lacquer if you wanted smooth but then it'd be glossy?
