Im struggling a bit with this. Are you saying you dont have a rail at all at the moment or are you try to extend the railed real estate on your rifle ?
Sorry I'm not making myself clear, I should of said my one is dented and want to replace it with a new one!
-
A lot of rail systems are designed to be lightweight, for example ones by Noveske, Troy, Daniel Defense (specifically the MFR) and PWS. All of said manufacturers have some of their designs replicated by Madbull.
They're high quality and licenced appropriately if you like trademarks, but expensive as a result.
Next there's the length, you may be limited to specific models. For example, most are available in 7", 9" and 12" lengths; carbine, mid-length, rifle. But there are certain designs which are available in / only made in 15" or 4" etc.
Admittedly that probably isn't much of a problem but it can be one thing to consider dependent on what your gun is like and narrows down the options.
Relatively new on the market although seemingly really popular (as more companies, real-steel and replica makers, are producing them) are Keymod systems.
Again these are designed to save weight however most of the companies will sell the rail panels extra and these can be very expensive. It can increase your choices of attachments as there are parts specifically for attaching to Keymod rails (mainly lights & light mounts, foregrips, QD sling points)
I'd say it's really just preference. Main brands you'll come across, as far as I know, is either Madbull or ACM (Chinese clones) With the former you don't have to worry about quality, it will be good.
With the latter it depends but generally quality will probably be alright and paying £30 might be worth it more than £100+
Thanks for that, that's very informative!
What are you looking for in a rail system?
Basically something minimal as I only have a front grip and I don't want to add anymore to it! Also I'm confused about free floating RIS and the others out there!
Help me! Confused.com

Hey all,
I want to get a new RIS for my M4 but I'm a little confused on what to get as there seems to be 101 million of them out there!
Can someone shed some light on what I am looking out for when I'm looking for one!
Thanks in advance,
Scott

I've been really happy with my german para boots which i've had for about 2 years now. Main factor is going to be the shape of your feet though, i've had to use two completely different thickness innersoles due to the instep on one foot being bigger than on the other as an example.
Hmm...the choices are overwhelming me! Ha ha! I will need to investigate properly this weekend!

Are you up at the Colchester airsoft day on Sunday drewster?
Not this month I'm afraid...I've got to work, however next month I am making sure I am there!
What about yourself? You going?
-
If youre in Colchester, it might be worth talking to Mark at Hangar39 in the centre, He sells a range of mil boots.
In an outdoor note, I had a pair of Meindls for years. Used to walk up and down the artificial rock slope in the shop to test the fit.
Perfect...I'm on that as well! Cheers mate!
-
Do they now? Hmm...I will have to take a trip over there at the weekend!
-
This came up on our milsim group the other day and you might the thoughts of one of our regulars useful.
Great stuff thanks for that one mate!
Seem okay on first look but you cant judge boots without seeing them and trying them. Its always a lottery online.
You're right but I can't seem to find any shops out that do brand new ones! The thought of having someone else's boots on doesn't feel me full of joy!
-
What about these...how do they look to you guys...

People swear by German paratrooper boots at the lower price range and Lowa MOD at the higher.
Personally I like SWAT team boots with side zippers.
Ok thanks I'll have a look...
