    Gun picture thread

.40 S&W was made after a requirement for the FBI was posted due to the Platt and Matix case back in 86. One of the two was shot through the heart in the opening seconds of the gun battle, yet he went on to kill some 5 agents before finally bleeding out. The FBI was adamant it was the small caliber of their 38 Special revolvers that was the issue, not a lack of training. S&W received the contract to create a new bullet and gun that could use it. (This is where my information starts to get a bit hazy - been a few years since I heard the "behind the scenes" story. Ill update this should I find my info is slightly wrong. The premise still stands) This lead to the creation of the .40S&W. The FBI, however, wanted to use a round that was near-identical to the .40 - the 10mm. The 10mm and .40S&W work in the same guns, are the same sized bullet, similar enough casings, etc - similar to how .357 Magnum and 38 Special can be interchanged as long as your gun is rated to the higher pressures of the .357. However, the 10mm was such a "hot" round (industry term - meaning fast, powerful, lots of kick, etc) that many agents couldn't handle it. It also had issues in the upsized S&W 9mm guns S&W made for it. The FBI was unhappy and got into a massive legal battle with S&W over it. Long story short S&W won the case as the guns were built to the FBI's original specifications, and not the specifications of the 10mm. This lead to both calibers being available. In the end a .40S&W has very similar ballistic properties to a 9mm, but it kicks harder and puts far more stress on a gun than a 9mm. A "Race" style pistol like that would have issues with a .40S&W. A 10mm would be even worse. I know all this as my grandfather was actually a key witness for the case. He was with the FBI but left a bit before on an indefinite leave of absence to pursue his holster making business idea (what eventually became Rogers Holster Company, then HolsterOps and then a major part of Safariland). He also had his range and training that was being utilized by the US Gov for military training. As a part of the trial the judge ordered both groups to agree on an independent contractor to test the guns and ammo, and both parties were happy to use Rogers. It was something crazy that he and his team had to do - something like take 200 guns and test 500 rounds through each gun. He said they ended up wearing welding gloves and taping their wrists up with duct tape to get through it all. His findings were in line with S&W's argument, so the FBI actually lost that trial. The interesting thing about it all was - it wasnt the bullet that was the issue. Matix was a dead man regardless - no surgeon in the world could save him. But the shot could have been fired by any handgun up to and including a .44 Magnum or .50 AE, and the result would have been similar. The FBI training at the time was to fire a single shot into the torso within 1.5 seconds. If the officer had put all 5 rounds from his revolver into the chest, or even better tried for a headshot (the two were less than two feet apart. It would not have been a difficult shot...) things might have turned out different. There were a lot of other issues in that case that changed Bereau policies, but Im not going to get into them all here.

    Joining a Team

Just reiterating what everyone else has said , you don’t need to be in a team to play(and to be honest even when you are in a ‘team’ you don’t stay together for long anyway during the game , you only really see each other in the safezone !)hardly anyone who plays is in one , most are either single players or small groups of friends but on the whole very rare to see identifiable teams . also need to remember as he’s only 14 he will need an adult with him to be allowed to attend and play on a gameday .

  6. Can't really see a way you can claim a 'need' for a RIF when so many practical shooters run funky coloured 2011s/Hi-Capas. Not that I personally agree with a citizen 'needing' something having to be the justification for not banning it, but that's how UK law is. The more realistic end of the dress up spectrum of airsoft is what's keeping RIFs legal (vs just IFs) and fewer and fewer people seem to be grasping that as time goes by.

  15. So I got through to the UPS Brokerage (Thank you RebelScum). They just confirmed my shipments are in customs inspection and they can't do anything until they are released. I see TG are now accepting orders to the UK again but it is still via UPS so no order from me

  17. Firstly matey who did you buy this off and did they mention those faults before you bought it? It’s totally unacceptable if the seller sold you any rifle and didn’t tell you. I’d have not opened it up and demanded a refund! Period. Having said that all is not lost. The recoil platform is very simple to work on. Q1 - the recoil mechanism has a number of components. The main recoil unit is in the buffer. This is what gives you the recoil. On top of the receiver you have the dust cover recoil affect. This does not affect the main recoil. It’s there for immersion and looks. From your pics you have a spring missing. This is my 416’s charging handle recoil unit. See the difference?

  18. Ola, I use an Action Army, just a standard VSR 14mm adapter. Usually fairly easy to get hold of. Will find you a link. https://www.bullseyecountrysport.co.uk/action-army-vsr-10-barrel-adapter-sniper-rifle-part-6mm-11671-p.asp Bullseye. Highly underrated shop. Stocks nearly everything. they also have the silencer in for £33.99 https://www.bullseyecountrysport.co.uk/swiss-arms-airsoft-goob-barrel-extension-for-mauser-sa1-bolt-14mm-ccw-23730-p.asp Get the look ;)

  20. Whilst I agree 100% with what you are saying, I probably fall into the minority. There are many who would see permanently two-toned guns as an absolute show-stopper and would move away from the hobby pretty quickly. They want 'realism', even if that ends at the point of pulling the trigger where their gun sounds like an angry sewing machine. Me? well, I like realistic guns, but could live without them if I had to, I just enjoy shooting people. Whether that's with a perfect copy of a DEVGRU/CAG blaster, or something that looks like it was spat out of Hasbro's factories, makes no odds to me at the end of the day.

    Aeg Assault Rifles?

Who told you this mate ? Because who ever it was , was talking bollox out of there arse ! no such thing as a LiPo ‘unready’ Gun , ALL electric guns can run on LiPo batteries you just need to watch the capacity of the battery your using , if you stick a 11.1V in a lot of guns then yea it is more than likely they'll implode in a quite dramatic way sometime in your future but stick to 7.4V LiPo’s and you can use them in absolutely any gun , Christ i even put one in my Glock18c ! 😂

  25. Is Temperate Vegetato really considered Gucci now? Heck it was my first uniform haha. Anyway, while the full kit got held up in customs until - funnily enough - today it was nice to run the Tropentarn kit at Op Stonebreaker the past weekend. Now that the rest of the stuff's arrived Ill have to do a full kit pic sometime before Op Firestorm in late April. The Black Cherry preformed well, though there were some odd FPS fluctuations I still have to sort out I suppose.

  27. Back home from work trip away, new sight and speedloader arrived. Soon as the kids were in bed, bunged it onto the 933 😄 happy with the result, however too knackered from work to try it out tonight. Some fun this weekend practicing in the garden to zero it. Added the rubber jibber/bayonet for a bit of old skool effect. Not sure if I'll skirmish with it mounted but will have it on my vest as a SHTF/superCQB backup. I'd imagine it's a typo, 5mW (milliwatt - typical laser e.r.p., 5MW (megawatt) is Sci-Fi weapon territory and would fry whatever it was pointed at...) Sounds about right. Still if be careful. Used to work with lasers in a previous job, as a private pilot I've known plenty of private and professional colleagues who've been Lasered by some fucking twat at night and nearly blinded - a couple of mW is enough - bloody dangerous to your eyes if not careful. I personally feel uncomfortable with others pointing them about the field, and would never fit one to my RIF. Just my opinion...

  28. Yes it would seem your right! So I have put the stock unit in, with a maple leaf rubber and a new nub. Now shooting at 330 consistent. So leaving it there. I did sand back the ZCI hop unit to get it closed to the nozzle which did increase the fps to 320 ish from 300. But couldn't take any more material without interfering with the dial. So stock unit with a cut down ( alot) large barrel spring with new rubbers, sector chip removed seems to have it sorted. Thanks for your help all! 👍

I was 'adopted' by a young newbie down the ucap tunnels one Wednesday evening. I think he was impressed by my loadout and assumed I was a one man killing machine.Wrong! It started off ok by my saving him from hitting his head on a low doorway which earned me some thanks but then things went downhill fast. I led him into the middle of a fire fight where we promptly got rinsed from both sides.i got him blown up,lost, and soaked when he stumbled and fell down a step which I neglected to warn him about lol. This all happened in the first half of the game.Never saw him again.lol. Regards

    Joining a Team

Agree with all the above, plus rushing in to join a team, particularly one that's based at sites local to you has its pitfalls, if later on it transpires that you actually don't like or agree with the "playing style" of the team, leaving it but continuing to use the local sites may be awkward to say the least, much better to attend the sites, work on finding your likes, & observe the regulars, particularly any established teams, judge for yourself if they're any good, if they play honestly ?, or have a dodgy reputation ? (some teams are notorious for cheating), & eventually you'll know whether or not team play is for you. In the meantime you'll have great fun & meet mostly like-minded decent people who just enjoy the game for what it is. Good luck 😁👍

    Joining a Team

Hi Stephanie, I presume he hasn't played a game at a site yet? If that's the case then he doesn't need to join a team to play. Many of us (including me) started just by going on our own and meeting people during the day. It may be a bit intimidating at first but most are helpful to new players. I took my son when he was 14 and its a good bonding activity for father and son. When actually playing, everyone runs in their own direction so he can just follow along with anyone. The main thing is to obey the rules while having fun. When shot, raise hand and shout 'HIT' so that he doesn't get shot anymore. With hand raised to show he's out its just a case of walking to an area to respawn and join in again. The most important elements are good quality eye protection (not mesh) and boots with ankle support (army surplus is good for this) Good eye pro would include: Bolle Tracker Bolle Pilot II And face protection like THIS If you need to find a site near you then have a look HERE It may be a bit out of date so some of the info could be wrong but its a place to start. Alternatively search 'airsoft' in Google Maps around where you live.

  37. As they're only rated the EN166F they're not actually rated high enough. The F rating is tested with a 0.86g steel ball at 45m/s which equates to 0.86J. Given that site limits are around 1.13 J (0.2g at 350FPS for an AEG, higher for DMR and BASR) you should be looking at an impact rating of EN 166B or an ANSI equivalent.

Hi @Stephanie ballard! 👋 Give it time people will give their advice.... I would say for now, don’t need to rush, bring a few friends, who may be interested and then see from there? You don’t have to join a team right away, especially for a regular skirmish day! Have a channel covering a few things for beginners from my experience, hope this helps? 🤔 💷GAMBLE💷

  41. There is usually at least one of us in my regular group (The Old Gits) with biscuits, sometimes it's donuts , be rude not to share 🤣. I find a small flask covers my tea needs for a game . All these youngsters running around like their hair is on fire with all their 'operator' kit strapped to their plate carrier when all you actually need is a pouch large enough to take the flask and a double stanag pouch for biccies . That and a couple of hicaps and you're golden 😁 Old Gittery is more a state of mind than anything else so all ages welcome........just don't let anyone see you run !
