  1. On your first RIF? good god no! leave it the fuck alone until it breaks. When you've got several guns - where you've even got a backup for your backup blaster, then sure, take your gun to bits and do whatever you want - because if you fuck up (and you will to start with) you can still go out and play. But if you only have one gun, and you are not experienced in teching AEGs in any way, leave it alone or pay a respected tech to do the work for you.

  3. Thats pretty much my take on it.Pistols come out of holsters to do a job, which I'm confident they will do,and then go back.when I get home they get quick clean and back in gun bag till next time. Like you I don't tend to look too closely at other guys/girls gats.perhaps a bit if something sounds special.I'm happy with my arsenal and know it will perform well when needed. 👍🎅 Happy christmas Regards

  6. Seems to me an afternoon with a rotary tool and a burner/soldering iron would solve all your problems. I much prefer the thinner grip of a 1911 as well but gas reservoir size is wank. I think a full length dust cover balances out the grip better.

  7. yeah just keep an eye on the classifieds, the good thing is because you're gonna tinker with it anyway you can just worry about buying based on external condition.

  8. this probably isn't going to come as a great revelation to most but i figured it's an interesting story that maybe merits use as a means of reminding people about the greatest of airsoft sins- the non hit taker. so to preface this we all know the cry, "call yer [redacted] hits you [redacted]", a yell of frustration at the perceived sin of a player breaking the honesty on which our game is based. it's a trap we've all fallen into and i won't deny having fallen for it many times myself. of course the key word there is "perceived", to many the issue of crying foul is just as egregious as cheating in the first place, no doubt born from having been on the receiving end of such accusations and knowing that the supposed "hit" flew wide (or in my case dropped short). it's a lesson it took me many years to learn, that it's really worth giving the benefit of the doubt in a lot of situations. these days i do my utmost to let things slide unless not only do i see the round make contact, but i know the range and hit location are such that there is no chance of a legitimate no-feel (especially important when engaging at the limits of your range) however recently i had quite an interesting experience that really highlighted the whole issue. a fella had popped up at the site with a rather fancy dynamic targeting system, you had 4 head sized targets which would detect a hit and fold away. really rather snazzy. the site owner had decided to run a little shooting competition, nothing too fancy. the targets were spaced with 2 at 10m, and 2 at 20m. they were set with a 4s exposure time after which they'd hide for about 10 seconds (cant remember how long it was exactly). when you hit a target it'd fold away and stay there. so the aim of the game was simply to get all 4 targets as fast as possible. if you hit a target and it didn't pop then it was still counted to make it fair for folks with underpowered gats. so in the spirit of "this looks like a lark" i decided to have a crack at it, thought i did rather well with a 13 second time to take down all 4. i'll self-profess to not being a particularly good marksman although i do pride myself on making sure my hardware is well dialled in. however what i found interesting was the other competitors, one in particular who was running with a very snappy high-speed m4 managed to expend a hell of a lot of plastic (well over 100 rounds total) and finished in over 40 seconds. watching his shots they were all flying high- the sign of an over-set hop unit although the dispersion showed it was evidently a decent enough gat. what surprised me was that instead of watching where his rounds were going and compensating he just kept firing and firing. now you might argue that perhaps i'm a better marksman than i think i am, or that perhaps my obsession with mechanical accuracy meant i had equipment advantage, however that's easily countered by pointing out the winner was a kid running what appeared to be an unmodified arp556. so this was a bit of fun but it did make me think that perhaps there's a lot more folk out there than i suspected who think their shots are going somewhere different to the reality, and maybe many more of those crys of anguish could be suppressed simply by people putting some effort into knowing their equipment and paying attention to their shots as they fly downrange.

  10. I have a buddy who went to chrono his Novi SSG24 at a site. He intentionally put 0.25's in to lie about the weight he was using (site chrono's with 0.2s) and the dumbass wasn't quick witted enough at chrono to say 0.2's and he said 0.25. They converted it and he was hot so got asked to take it away. He then stuck 0.2's in and re-chrono'd and slid by due to the marignally less joule creep with the lighter ammo and came scurrying back with his coloured zip tie. Promptly loaded said SSG up with 0.46's 😑 We talked him out of using it but I can't help but think site's don't help this situation. I personally ALWAYS chrono on my shooting weight and I know that all of my RIF's are under enough so that nobody dries their teeth when I go through. Christ I crono'd before lockdown and commented that my 0.25's should be hitting about 290 so just under 1J and the marshall replied "we don't use joules here mate". I do feel that marshalls should have some kind of recognised benchmark that covers basics, attitude and some theory rather than just if you want a free game next week.

When you you flip the IR filter switch their should be an noticeable green tint when you look through the scope and like you said you see light when you look an at something using IR. If so then the IR filter is working.

  12. Barrel is a must, the G&G one is just aluminium trash but the green bucking is well worth keeping and reusing. The GC predators are worth getting as they are well finished, all metal and have the nicer orange ifrit motors. Ideal if you intend on keeping it an AEG.

  15. Thank you, great advice and shall take it on board. Can’t wait to get out there and actually get started. I think I’m just jumping the gun with my impatience! Haha. yea I had seen a few people recommend the ZCI. not entirely sure I will get the CM16 yet still loads of time to change my mind! It just fits in my current budget and I like the look of it.

  16. I've had my hands on a mates GC Predator and also my own CM16 SRS. Out of the box they are absolutely fine for a first time RIF. Don't get me wrong, if you sit there with 0.01 shims and really take a day about it I'm sure you could do better but it's really not worth it. Best and most worthwhile upgrades you can do out of the box are a Perun ETU++ and a ZCI stainless barrel.

  17. G&G Combat Machines get used as rental guns on some sites, so they are fairly reliable. You are more likely to cause a failure after 'upgrading', especially if you try to do it yourself. Think of them as a Ford Fiesta. Functional, gets you from point A to B relatively efficiently for thousands of miles. But take a bog standard Fiesta, drop in a monster turbo with no other modifications whatsoever, and watch it go bang very quickly as you rag it around. Airsoft guns are the same, you need to take a balanced approach to upgrading. Want to upgrade the gearing? Well, you also need to consider battery and motor options. Can the Piston take the additional stress? How's the Angle of Engagement on the sector gear? Are the bushings robust enough (Combat Machines use sintered bushings which aren't great). Is the gearbox properly radiused? These are all variables that need to be considered. Best saved for your second or third gun. Buy a good starter gun, Combat Machines are fine but there are other comparable options, and use it for a good few skirmishes. Start then to think about what would improve your airsoft experience with the gun. Quite often, it's a case of consigning your first gun to backup status as when you total up the upgrades it's cheaper to just buy a better gun.

  18. In my opinion why would you want to take a brand new gun apart and put new gears and shims in it. It's like me buying a brand new chop saw and taking it apart to change motor or bearings.i wouldn't do it.if it works and cuts wood then its fit for purpose. If after using and it breaks it goes back and gets repaired. But you can do what you want to it,its up to you. Just dont void warranty. 👍🎅 Regards

  19. What sort of compressor have you bought? Does it go up to 3000psi? Is it filtered? High pressure cylinders and dirty air are dangerous A ‘domestic’ compressor such as a tyre compressor won’t cut it A workshop compressor will get higher pressures but they are rarely clean, can cause oil contamination (which can lead to a flash fill explosion at a later date once you achieve full pressures) A ‘shoebox’ booster compressor can be used in conjunction with a workshop compressor but takes hours per fill - and is liable to overheating Compressors used by sites cost thousands

  20. Different engraver found, waiting for quote. Just incase anyone was having dificulty sleeping - here's what a £130 Cyma needed to be a DMR. Gearbox casing is fine with no obvious defects, more for the ceremony than anything I've polished the rails with Mothers Aluminum polish. Who knows if it makes any difference but it makes me THINK the piston cycles better. Stock cylinder head was also fine so I've kept that and the stock cylinder in place. Unfortunately, the airseal was non-existant, I've kept the Cyma piston but changed out the piston head for a ported aluminum jobbie I had laying around. The stock nozzle wasn't great, so I splashed out on a Prometheus which seals and feeds. ASG M125 spring with a bearing spring guide coupled with a Modify 6.03 barrel if giving the desired FPS. There was no reason to change out the gearset but a saw a deal on some standard ratio Prometheus V7 gears that I couldn't resist... Quick shim and that's all happy. Stock bushings are fine. If you remove the selctor bar from the V7 gearbox, the cut off lever cannot be lifted. This gives a clean and reversible semi only lock. The Cyma motor wasn't great so I switched that out for an ASG Infinity 30,000. The ASG motors are a bit on the big side so a fair bit of filing had to happen to allow for proper motor height adjustment. Cabling was switched out for some decent gauge stuff and a Gate trigger cable was put in place. Currently there's a NanoHard in the stock set to no active-brake and 7.4V battery protection. Active brake was making the spring go TWANG bizarrely, but the gun doesn't require AB on a 7.4 and the trigger response is spot on. Finally, the Cyma Hop unit was not a great casting and actually asymetrical. I got a TM unit from FireSupport and went with the obligatory ML Macaron/Omega nub route. Fun project internally, but as usual I've spent more than the base gun on UpGrAdEs! I still can't hit anything, but I certainly cant blame the M14

    Lmg Hop up

Not sure if they changed them or not, but when had an A&K M249 the hop nubs were a couple of mm too short so they couldn't give enough hop to be effective. IIRC the general consensus was to either replace the whole hop unit or cut off the right size piece of the inner bit of a biro to replace the nub

  22. So a gun that fires 420fps stock (according to https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/asg-4-inch-co2-dan-wesson-revolver-pistol-silver ) has had its fps increased? is this still even classed as an airsoft gun? or is it now a funky sniper rifle? If the latter, surely you know the fps, kinda important to skirmish? though a lack of a hop up on this model would make it a pretty poor sniper

  27. And most other hi capas come to that. First the grip. The TM one looks cheap to start with, but I also dislike the shape of most hi capa grips, the way they flare out at the bottom and benefit from having a magwell (I don't really like magwells either but they look better with one than without), and the shape of the trigger guard. The flat front of the trigger guard spoils the look of the gun in my humble opinion. Well it does for me anyway. I would like a hi capa that looks more like a para ordinance ie the general shape of a 1911 but with a thicker grip and mag. And that means that I would prefer a trigger guard rounded at the front. So I decided to treat myself to a Guarder black Tanio Koba tactical grip for Christmas. It looks like the one on the KJW 05 version of the hi capa. But nowhere in the UK has them. I started to look elsewhere but even abroad they are thin on the ground or only available in olive drab. And then I found one in a Polish online retailer called Spec Shop. So I ordered it and went to check out only to find the list of countries they ship to didn't include the UK. At first I thought it might have something to do with us leaving the EU. But both the US and Canada are on the list and they aren't in the EU either. And the box for selecting the English language on their sight actually has a Union Jack on it. The other thing I don't like on the Hi Capa is the bomar sight, again for aesthetic reasons. It is just an ugly big slab which spoils the lines of the gun and for airsoft pistols I see little need for adjustable sights in the first place. I much prefer the look of the 4.3 tactical sight, but there doesn't seem to be anything like it for the 5.1 unless you want to fork out for expensive night sights. For the sake of two fewer bbs I would also prefer to use the 4.3 mags. So what I really want is something that looks more like a 1911 but with extra gas and bb capacity. Pity nobody makes one. And it would be nice if manufacturers like Airsoft Masterpiece made metal slides for hi capas that looked more like classic 1911 slides. Not everyone wants weird shapes, fancy lettering and cut outs on a slide But I realise that since hi capas are so popular most people probably like the looks of them. I just wondered if anybody on here felt the same way as me.
