firstly have you played before do you have an aeg, because if you jump into sniping with no previous game experience you will have a miserable time . secondly please use the forum search function you are not the 1st person to ask this and there are countless posts on this question.

  2. This does get my goat. At the same site I've seen Marshals mocking players for trying to use the bang rule, they've also had a go at people for shooting when they're too close.

  5. this is my normal response, but generally i'm aiming somewhere a little less sensitive. last time i gave a bang kill it was that close, had the barrel of the makarov against the guys shoulder, although granted an 0.75j gun into a padded webbing strap is a totally different kettle of fish. you did the right thing (annoying as i'm sure it was to go through), a little compassion for the poor sod on the recieving end goes a long way.

Totally his own fault (deserved it just for smoking , vile habit😉) no that’s fair game if your doing things like that . I’m neither for or against the ‘Bang rule’ I’m more of a ‘you get the drop on the other player they either take it graciously and accept the other player got them good and proper or they try some matrix shit and get shot ! Had an incident at a game where I got the drop royally on a player where I had my AEG barrel literally touching his cheek . I said “I think you’ll take the walk ?” He looked at me and unbelievably slowly started to raise his shottie ! I just looked at him and said “are seriously going to do that?” At this point I was taken out by another player so the incident finished but when I went and spoke to a marshal to report this fool doing something that stupid his reply was “well you should have put a round in to him Then !” I looked at him and just turned and walked away thinking what’s the point , no way I’m shooting someone point blank in the face on purpose . AND before the forum hard men start with the “take the shot or don’t play !”crap if I had done that I do think I could have been opening my self up to a possible assault charge for doing it .

Time to throw my thoughts into the mix. I won't echo the "sniping is hard" arguments that others have pointed out, as it's already been said and argued. I wouldn't say it's "hard" but it's definitely a different way of playing. You can make a perfectly good rifle for your budget. JG BAR10 or cyma cm701 ~ £100 AA hop unit ~ £50 Maple Leaf MR hop or new Decepticon bucking ~ £10 Maple Leaf Omega tensioner ~ £2 Crazy Jet barrel ~ £50 Some sort of cheap, but decent scope ~ £50 Spare mags ~ £10 each Hey would you look at that, I built a rifle with spare mags that will perform pretty damn well for under £300 and likely out-shoot a lot of your local site's "snipers". Honestly, the JG and cyma VSRs come at a decent enough power where you don't have to worry about replacing the trigger, spring, spring guide etc until they break. This is the build I did, minus the super expensive HPA bits, and it shoots stupidly well, especially considering the price tag. Now, I would probably use a PDI or Edgi barrel myself (they're more £100 - £150) instead of Crazy Jet because I've gone off Crazy Jets recently, but they're perfectly decent barrels and I am currently running one in my current build (read: I'm too poor at the moment to afford to replace it) Firing at about the same power as my spring VSR (2.2J in both), which has a professionally installed r-hop, edgi barrel and laylax/springer custom works internals, my cheapo mostly maple leaf build actually shoots further and more accurately. You absolutely can build a sniper rifle on a budget. Also, do you need a ghillie? Not at all. I spent the entire summer in a short sleeve OD t-shirt and pair of OD trousers, with a scrim net draped over my OD boonie once I got into my hide position. Yes, all OD, no camo patterns. People looked directly at me and didn't see me because I stayed perfectly still and didn't silhouette myself. If you want a cheap, lightweight ghillie I swear by my Webtex Concealment Vest (~£50) that I've tied a bunch of artificial ghillie strands to (~£12) and just load it up with natural foliage on the day using the elastic loops. My last game day had me using this and lying down in the middle of the enemy team for about 15 minutes because they're respawn was 5m in front of me for a bunch of the game. You don't need one of these all over super-pricey KMCS suits that you then have to put a bunch more stuff on to have an effective ghillie. So, for a rifle + ghillie, I've outlined it above for ~£354 (I assumed 3 extra mags). Yes, you could argue "but what about load bearing?" but you can pick up cheapo belt kits for peanuts these days that you could also put some ghillie material and natural foliage on, but I just wear mine under my ghillie. My rifle wrap is scrim net and cable ties, which are also peanuts. I also only use my belt for pistol and pistol mags. All my VSR mags are in a stock pouch (which cost me about £10 from Taiwangun and I'm thoroughly impressed with it) Sorry if my post came across as snarky. I'm just the guy who thinks "sniping is expensive" is a myth that dissuades people from doing what they want. I'm also the guy whose first RIF was a Well L96 about 14 years ago because I'm a massive hypocrite when I echo the "don't get a sniper rifle as your first gun" argument

    My Son and Me

Hi I'm not even brand new to the sport, I’ve never even held an Airsoft weapon. However, I have an 11 year old son who is obsessed With the idea of starting Airsoft. My son is someone who has struggled with traditional sports, he’s autistic and struggles with making friends, so I’m basically his best mate and one of his only friends. I’d love to start a sport with him where we can collect things and be outdoors together as well as encouraging team work etc. We’re just north of London and I’ve found a place in Milton Keynes which allow under 12’s to play. Is Airsoft something that the more experienced among you would recommend for myself and son? Thanks!

  12. I would add that if you are 'inspired' by any of the YT airsoft 'celebrity' snipers such as Nov or Wicking C*ntstain (trademark pending) that all their footage is stitched together from across a game day. Aforementioned twat Licking Bogbrush I know for a fact, used shots from two different spots on our local site at two different times of the day to show 1 'kill'. Anyway, the point is don't be fooled by all that balls if that is what you are aiming for.

  13. As others have stated taking the jump into sniping is a big ol’ risk. It’s generally expensive to get into, and in my experience unlike many other platforms/styles of play you want that RIF to be well tuned to get a decent sense of whether you’re ‘into it’. That tends to come at a financial cost, which you don’t tend to get much back on if you find the style isn’t for you. Borrowing a decent rifle for a few sessions would be my default advice, but I’m aware that isn’t always an option... and we have no idea when we’re going to be able to play again. I’m all for any sort of budget build, there are absolutely instances where you can get a RIF shooting amazingly on a small budget. When it comes to bolt action rifles and the power you’re dealing with parts tend to give way quicker than they would in an AEG. Though aftermarket parts and modifications like 90 degree triggers/pistons, hop chambers, TDC (top dead centre) mods and tighter barrels certainly can improve performance but a lot of what you end up paying for is durability coming from better quality materials. There is little more frustrating than getting everything set just as you like it, for a part to break and never quite getting it back where it was. If you’re only planning on ‘sniping’ from time to time it’s worth considering picking up a VSR clone and doing some cost effective mods to improve the consistency. For me personally the correct powered spring for your limits, a decent hop bucking and a TDC would be the minimum I’d pop in a ‘sniper rifle’. You need that hop to be performing as consistently as possible. Perhaps stretching to an aftermarket barrel if the stock one is a bit ropey. Pre-owned is a decent option, but as with any second hand purchase there is an element of risk. Whichever route you take it’s worth learning your rifle inside and out. Knowing how it all comes apart, goes together, and ‘what does what’ will serve you well as you change/replace parts and generally fettle to get things how you want them. Apologies for the essay.

  14. Personally I totally agree with the players that complained to the Marshals and believe this should be dealt with in the strongest possible terms. Why do I feel so strongly on this issue, Two reasons: First it’s a matter of player safety. If a player is allowed to get away with this behaviour then the only realistic way for the enemy team to react is to treat everyone doing the ‘dead mans walk’ as a live player and open fire. This is going to lead to massive over shooting/over killing on the poor sods who are genuinely ‘dead’ and actually making the slog back to the safe zone/respawn. Yes there is an argument that dead players should have pistols holstered and hand/rifle in the air, but the reality is this only happens until they have withdrawn from the firefight that killed them and is impractical if the terrain is even moderately uneven and the respawn is more than about 50 yards away, particularly on larger sites where there can be multiple engagements between where a player ‘died’ and the respawn. Secondly, it is completely unrealistic and against the spirit of the game in an honesty based system that is intended to mimic engagements with firearms. It is not being clever or sneaky it is just as dishonest as players who don’t take their hits, in fact more so as there is no possible argument that the offending player may not have felt a BB at the end of its range that hits a bit of gear. It is straight out gaming the mechanics of the system.

  15. I've been lurking here a while, and I've had a lot of comments about these Racals, so I decided it's about time I actually joined and posted something (hopefully interesting to the community). So I got fed up with breaking and fixing repro comms kit for myself and the team, (now on my 6th headset in 2 years playing). But I didn't want to fork out £500 on peltor comtacs. I'm sure many of you can relate to this. I found real steel Racal Frontier headsets being sold off dirt cheap. The catch being they come with a lemo connector for military prr radios. I read the threads on the lemo connectors and the price of adaptors and custom PTTs and thought what the heck, I'm going to have a go at modifying a set to work with a TP-120 / u-94 ptt. So a bit of experimentation later, I figured out a tidy way of doing it. I've done a few with with a Kenwood 2 pin cable to go straight into a Baofeng, retevis etc. radio. I've also done a few with genuine peltor tp120 cables to go into a u94 PTT on your shoulder. And I have to say, I'm dead chuffed with the results. The custom ear moulds are made from polymorph plastic. It melts in hot water and is hand (or in-your-ear) mouldable. The headsets are pretty slick. They electronically allow talk through, but limit the volume, the radio comes in your left ear and the cool bit is the microphone picks up from inside your right ear. Even at a whisper. I also like that there isn't a big can on your ear getting in the way of your cheek weld! The set on my plate carrier is my first off. The ones with the curly cables are a later version where I've managed to do all the mods inside the control box so the cable is all intact right into the control box. Anyway there's my show and tell, I'd be interested to see what you guys think! PS. The diagram in the background is a different project - Music phone and comms in my snowboard helmet (don't try and put that in a Racal!) PPS. If there's interest in these I'll put a post in the Classifieds.

    Tm Mk23 or FnX-45?

They'll run fine on propane, you'll have to reseal them eventually as they give out under the increased pressure over the duster gas they were designed for originally - as to whenever that is, how long is a piece of string 😄. If you do get the clone mags make sure to have a file or dremel handy so you can widen the BB channel near the bottom, otherwise you'll be loading through the feed lips. Jump into the MK23 owners group on Facebook if you're on that as well, wealth of knowledge on there.

    Tm Mk23 or FnX-45?

There are so many opinions/experience when it comes to mk23 mags and what's best. Personally I get better results out my clone ones and they don't tend need leak proofing. I have hi flowed all my mags though. But tend to have more feed issues. But many find it the other way round. There's so many finer points of the platform and different little mods and tricks. Especially if you are having feed issues and diagnosis of it can be a minefield.

I think the bang rule can be used and should be used if you have the option. However, it should always be used in the situation where if the person you bang even flinches, you can just unload into them. I use it loads and only a very few times can I remember them trying to be smart and well.. failing... Followed by their instant regret.

  23. Hi guys and Gals, Thought I would join a forum and see what the Airsoft world is all about. Have a couple of friends that are involved and something I have been thinking about for a while and now decided to get involved myself. No weapons as yet, bit hard to get to sites/clubs at the moment but will definitely be progressing when we are given the all clear to do so. 47 years old, so can’t run as quick as I used to but still enjoy getting stuck in. Any tips gladly received, Midlands based so anything round the Birmingham area would be helpful. Cheers Rations.

I'm on board with this. You're either in "alive" and can be shot or you've already been shot and are leaving the game/respawning. I've been guilty of not keeping my arm up, especially near the end of the day. I had it once where someone on the opposite team had been shot (I didn't know this) and rather than heading straight back to respawn they walked a few steps and set-up to roll a cigarette on a blue plastic drum. I couldn't really tell what they were doing but saw them standing casually and decided to send a round their way to test it. It connected and they threw their hands up in the air swearing their heads-off. It was hilarious. Same thing goes for people who look around to see who shot them rather than getting out of the way, as well as those who have been shot and walk in front of players on their team pushing forward...they're all fair game!

    My Son and Me

Welcome to the forum mate. I can relate as my youngest has Autism too, tho he is quiet placid and laid back, still struggles with social gatherings, especially when loud noises are involved, I'm hoping when he is old enough that I can do something similar to acclimatise him. Airsoft is quite welcoming of new players and as @Sitting Duck says, if you can explain this to the guys that run the sites/marshalls, they might find a way of getting you both to enjoy it without feeling isolated or left out. I'd also recommend you both hire your kit (if its available due to covid restrictions) because you don't wanna fork out items if you find either of you don't like the sport, you might just have to buy your face/eye protection seperately (again due to covid) and just make sure you have some suitable footwear (walking/hiking boots or boots with ankle support) Might be worth checking out @GAMBLE's videos, such as this one:

Even more bollocks. Whoever told you that sniper rifles have to be expensive should be thrown down a cliff. They actually require very little to perform and most of the mods are DIY jobbies. "you need an expensive barrel" no you don't, as long as the stock one is straight, clean and seals well with the hop rubber, it's good. "you need a r-hop" no you don't, a maple leaf rubber does the same shit but costs €10 "you need a big ass spring" no you don't, if you know how to work with Joule Creep, also FPS means fuck all if the rifle isn't consistent. "you need a SRS" absolutely not, you don't need to drop €500 on that shit. It's good, but a cheap cyma VSR with some upgrades and tweaks will do the same, for less than half the price. Do you need a fancy expensive KMCS? no, you just need a BDU in a pattern that blends in well with the environment, and a couple cans of spray paint to adjust the colours. Fuck leaf suits btw, they're shit. In case nobody told you, home made ghillies are dirt cheap. As for sidearms, a STTI MK23 with a couple of DIY mods and €20 worth of Hadron parts is the way to go. Also, you upgrade as you play. No need to dish out serious amounts of money right at the start.

  31. We can't play because of restrictions, but we can go on the field and maintain it, so that's what we did. We restored one old trail to an area of the field we haven't really used in a long time. We're going to do maintenance until we are allowed to play again. Next week i will bring the ghillies with me, so I can start crafting them.

    Cunning or Cheating?

I say 100% cheating , no one keeps there arm in the air the whole time on the long walk of death back to where ever (gets too bloody heavy !), so you try to walk as none offensively as you can chucking out the odd “dead player !” Every now and again , trying to stick open area’s on route(middle of the field , centre of the road/track) just so hopefully you won’t be seen as an active player . As others have said most definitely NOT in the spirit of the game at all , also as has been said stuff like this leads to escalation and that’ll just destroy the gameday for everyone . One or two do it and before you know it it just turns in to a stagnant shit storm no ones leaving the game area because they know there going to get hosed so they stay where they are not taking there hits AND it all goes to ratshit ! if someone is walking in plain view in a none combative state then you should be able to assume there dead and not a threat . So yea anyone who does this is a cheat in my book and I have very little respect for you or your gameplay .

    Missing Innovation?

Airsoft has moved on a bit in the 18 years I have been playing. Hop technology has improved over the standard single nub. Mosfets have become fairly standard. The biggest change has been batteries. Compare a LiPo with a NiCad for size. I think what we are seeing is slow and steady rather than big jumps. For me, modularity and tolerances would be a big thing. A lot of us see swimming as a bit of a dark art. Being able to upgrade a gearbox easily would be a benefit. I did use a Modify modular gearset a few years back, and being able to drop the gears in pre shimmed in a cage was very easy.

  46. Do nothing to it. I'd try sample bags of Geoff's BBs. Then use the highest weight that it will reliably hop. Maybe use binoculars or a monocle to spot targets, then pew at them. Find a simp with an AEG who is willing to spot for you. I would. Whatever your results, be proud of them. Bring a rusty chain to thrash at the spergs who will swarm you in the safe zone to tell you about how they almost bought a WA2000, but didn't because [blah blah blah].
