  1. The choice seems obvious to me. The SSG-24 (along with the SSP-1, SSX-23, SSG-10 and the upcoming SSX-303 and SSR-15), on paper, is one of the best sniper rifles you can buy. But between what the advert says and what you really get, there is an abyss that's deeper than the Challenger Deep. The one thing that makes Nov's products crap is the quality control. You may get a good one that'll last for a long time, but you may also get a lemon, and that's where the troubles really start. You may only have some slight quirks here and there, easily fixed with some basic teching skills, or you may have a completely shit, unuseable €400+ wall hanger. On top of that, dealing with Nov's customer support is a nigthmare, most likely they'll tell you you're not pulling the bolt right when there's all sorts of manufacturing residues in the cylinder and your piston is fucked because of that, or that you're using bad quality BBs when the trigger sear is made of metal plated shit and snaps on its first pull. Not worth imo. The VSR platform, imo, is still the golden standard for airsoft sniping. There is one question that is always asked when a new rifle comes out: "IS IT AS GOOD AS A TUNED VSR?" Platform is old, it's been around for over 20 years, yet the best rifles are built on that platform (and guess what? the latest Nov rifle is a VSR, who would have thought ). Plenty of upgrades available, for literally every budget imaginable, you can spend very little and have a good sniper, or go full ham dropping more than 1k and have the Ferrari of airsoft bolt actions. So, to answer (and possibly give a bit of advice) your question: VSR, no doubt. Don't get a TM though, there are sturdier designs out there (Cyma for example, Action Army) which cost less than TM. Plus you're going to gut it anyway, so I don't see the point of paying for premium internals that are going to be binned. Don't fall into the TM Recoil Syndrome. Be aware that some clones have a slightly smaller cylinder than TM, so that may need replacing too or a smaller diametre piston. The AA line of rifles seems to be really good for the price (personally eyeing the T-11) and already comes with decent quality parts that will last (bar the piston, it's entirely made of polymer, which is kinda fine for a 1J build, but definitely will wear out faster when going 2J+) and being 100% vsr compatible, will still give you an infinite range of upgrades. EDIT: you won't find shit on the T-11 online, but keep in mind, as @Shaydee says, that it's just the T-10 (so internally they're the exact same thing) with a more classic stock and a lower (by around €80) price point. So go look at T-10 reviews

  2. Don't bother with a TM Gspec, there's no need to get one of those unless you're limited to 1 joule and don't need to modify out of the box. The only reason I got one years back is because the better clones were out of stock and I was impatient! Better option is to get a clone like a JG Bar 10, Cyma (700 I think - can't remember off the top of my head), or even an Action Army T10/T11 for a bit more which comes with a 90 degree trigger and piston out of the box (looks pretty cool as well - though I'm not sure on the differences between T10 and T11 - Edit: looks to basically be aesthetics). Clone quality has come a long way in recent years in regards to how they feel on the outside and you'll be ripping the insides out of a bolty anyways (especially a TM as it'll shit the bed as soon as you want to up the power). I wouldn't bother with an SSG10, admittedly they're good out of the box but if you have even an ounce of teching ability you'll be better off money wise by building your own. They come with generic brass barrels as standard, Nov's customer support is very hit and miss (I've heard both positive and negative things, nothing seems consistent). If I personally were building right now from scratch it'd probably be a T10/T11, relevant spring, maple leaf MR rubber, action army hop unit, panthera nub and a nice barrel like a PDI or Laylax/Prometheus - along with some decent heavyweight BBs (I'd personally recommend Geoffs / BLS) - Edit: Looks like the T10/11 can benefit from a nicer piston and spring guide so I'd grab those as well. I'd also suggest checking out airsoftsniperforum, wealth of knowledge on there to help with building and potential purchase ideas - what's compatible with what, etc, etc.

  11. Hello all, I'm new the forum and Airsoft but have experience with bows, air rifles, air pistols, even a little 'real steel' too. My intention is to start Airsoft skirmishing after lockdown in the central belt of Scotland...with my kids... I'm in my mid 40's, my daughter is 16 and my son (soon to be) 15. They've never skirmished either. I was a bit hesitant at the idea of pointing anything resembling a gun at anything other than inanimate targets, it going against years of ingrained range safety. Just to make sure they and I would put up with getting shot at (and hit) I had the bright idea of getting a two tone, just to see. So... a little order to justbbguns and a few days later a nice shiny new blue/black co2 gbb pistol arrives (I may have gotten slightly carried away, what can I say, I like new 'toys') I field stripped it to see how it works, cleaned it, put it back together, went out and test fired it in the garden while the kids were plinking with their Airsoft springer pistols. Then we promptly decided to take turns shooting each other with the gbb pistol, with me down range first. It stings. The kids concur. It didn't put them off. I am not exactly what you would call 'fit' but I'm going to give it a try. They insist. I'm sure I'll have fun. So here we are. A few questions though: My nearest outdoor skirmish site is Section 8 in Shotts (how appropriate). Generally speaking, how long do game days last, 4 hours, 8 hours, more? Besides the actual tools that we will hire what other equipment is advised? I'm thinking of what would be needed for a day hiking or fishing as a baseline such as food, drinks, and outdoor clothes. I tend to over equip and I have a feeling that unless I ask some people who are more knowledgeable I'll just bring.... everything (remember Hot Shots? The scene with all the equipment where he falls over? Yeah, that's me). How much of a barrier is it to participating in the sport being a somewhat overweight, middle aged, bespectacled idiot that lets himself be shot by his kids? I'd hate to be too much of a drag on a team. Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

  12. Went to my first Skirmish last weekend, thoroughly enjoyed myself. I turned up in tracksuit bottoms and a long blue t shirt, while almost everyone else there was camouflaged in a way. So I don't stick out like a sore thumb next time I go I'd like to invest in a uniform of some sort. What I want to know though, is it okay to recreate the outfits of soldiers from certain wars/times/countries etc or is that frowned upon? I don't really want to annoy or offend people, just want peoples opinions so I can make the morally correct decision.

  13. Oh no a Tm mp7 gbb crept into the house when I wasn't looking. I may even prefer it to the GHK AK (I am fickle and prone to falling in out of love with whichever RIF I use depending on how the day/game goes so I'll take both with me in 10 days time and we will see which one comes out on top) i may have to sell the loser as this hobby has crippled my toy fund this month!!

  16. I'd say go even cheaper and get a 2nd hand VSR/BAR. You're going to replace anything that might break anyway, so why put money into a new one. You should be able to find one off someone that loves(/loved) the idea of sniping, bought one and got bored before they even left the house

  17. Honestly, I wouldn't even mind if you did wear Regt Insignia or what have you if your just trying to be true to a specific era/Unit/Conflict. Start spinning dits about your heroics with the SLR on Mt Tumbledown and you'll likely upset a few folk, but I don't/wouldn't have any issue with anyone wearing insignia if they've researched and understood what it is there wearing and why.

    THE TM MWS thread

It’s certainly right up there @EvilMonkee my first game is next Sunday and after that, both rifles will be stripped and new bucking/nub combos tried and I’ll do another comparison. I really do like the modify tan and SixG though. Just a shame the modify wears quite quickly.

  21. Tolerances don't matter when you replace everything anyway lol. I know for sure that Well uses a smaller cylinder, not sure about JG. Although if you're getting a new cylinder anyway it's irrelevant. Also don't buy Well, they have some proprietary parts and the quality is awful (yep they're cheaper than dirt, but there's a reason for that). AA Triggers and Cylinders are perfectly serviceable imo, while it's true that the base gun has a similar price to a TM, when you factor in the cost of a 90Β° trigger (€100 on average) and the cost/hassle of drilling out the pins on the TM cylinder to crack it open, the AA wins in price/amount-of-stuff-you-get ratio. Plus the stock AA chamber doesn't look half bad, you already get a concave tensioner (yep, ML/R-Hop ready from the factory), no need to replace it right away. Also, if you go for a Joule Creep build (so heavy piston, correct cylinder/barrel volume ratio, a somewhat tight bore, heavy as fucc bbs) you can afford to use a lighter spring than what you'd be using (say a M120 instead of a M150), putting even less stress on the trigger.. Again, don't fall into the TM Recoil Syndrome.

  23. id suggest against the ssg variants, because if your aim is to have a good consistent and accurate gun then it's better to work for it, tinkering and experimenting to get the best results is part of the process and in do doing you'll gain an understanding for what works and what doesn't which means when things start wearing out and going wrong, you'll be in a much better position to deal with it. value aside even if we assume you get one of nov's tuesday morning guns (after the weekend hangover's worn off) and it shoots great, it won't do that forever. now wether or not the gspec is the right platform, well i'm inclined to agree with the guys above that if you're going to be chopping and changing bits then there's less sense putting money into the gun up front as opposed to a cheaper clone with compatible parts.

  35. Looks like no airsoft in Scotland though until at least August. Land Warrior and Battle Zone in Edinburgh are making noises about re-opening on the 19th, pre-book and with distancing and what-not. But I can't see how that's practical if they're sticking to 15 people and 5 households. If they think they've found some wizard wheeze to get around that, I'd rather that they didn't, as we really don't want to be attracting unwanted attention from the State.

Since I started back at it I have dropped over 1stobe in weight 15’4 down to 14’3 (in 5’7 and fairly broad shouldered and fat). Not only that but I have slowly pushed the sunday run days to try and go further. 5k/3ish miles to start. Then upto 10k/6ish miles. And today for the first time. Half marathon distance 13 miles or just over 20k. now I am no gazelle more a slightly irritated hippo and if I can do it. Anyone can (I used to hate running with passion).

  41. Well, thats another quarantine project done. Introducing the HK 417a2. It started life as two G28s; G28 LE #227 and G28 standard #IDontCareEnoughToCheck. #227 was my original G28 LE that Ive had for awhile, but it just kind of sat around as it was heavy, loud, and comparatively ineffective at range compared to my other DMRs. I wanted to upgrade it, but I wasn't sure what to do. Then comes the standard. I bought the standard off a secondhand airsoft app in November of 2019. It was a bastardization of a 417 and G28 - G28 receivers, grip, and outer barrel, but 417 buffer tube, stock, and rail. I didnt really care as it was dirt cheap and already had some decent upgrades in it. Turns out I should have cared, as not a month later the lower receiver cracked. Real bad. It may be repairable but itll be obvious. So I was left with a semi-upgraded but broken G417 and a stock G28 LE. Now, between these two I built a 417 for a mate. I believe I posted it here, but it involved making a custom fitting to mount a PTS UBR stock to it. I looks good, and works well. It also gave me some experience building 417s that I didn't have before, and it gave me an appreciation for the "Battle Rifle" class of weapon. Essentially, a BR is a carbine-length DMR. This would include short-barreled AR-10s, Scar mk17s, etc. In airsoft you follow rifleman rules. It just looks fancier. Around this time I started toying with the idea of creating my own BR, but in typical Spaz fashion it had to kind of stand out. Knowing how much of a pain VFC mk17s are to upgrade, I shied away from them, but 417s are expensive, with an approx $450 price tag. Add in the $500ish in internals I would have to do to field it and things weren't looking too good on that front either... Plus, there arent many aftermarket externals for the VFC 417s, and my squadmate already runs the one I built him. Then this broken G28 shows up and I had an idea... Until this year, I always preferred my guns having a dedicated setup. My M27 stays as it is, its sights are zeroed, I dont pull attachments from other guns, etc. However, with me recently turning my VFC Jag Arms PHX-15 SBR (see previous page) into a hybrid Krytac LMG with a second upper, I started thinking of doing the same with my G28 LE. I mean, if I built a lower based around trigger response why wouldn't it work in a DMR as well as a BR? So I began working on it. In this period I saw the news from SHOT that HK had revamped their 417 program into a new model - the HK 417a2. Shiny, new, not made in airsoft to date, and best of all - in RAL8000, just like my spare G28 receivers. So to begin I stripped the 417 sniper parts off the standard and sold them. No need for them, so why not. Ill make someone else happy. Bought a 417 short rail off someone selling one. Ordered a short outer barrel and gas impingement system from VFC. Started asking for quotes from various techs I trust on AEG gearboxes. Started looking into HPA as well, cause why not. Decided to go HPA as it'd be about the same cost, and more importantly, much quieter. Ordered a REVO kit from Italy (3D printed kit that allows the G28 to take aftermarket triggers, more HPA engines, standard M4 hops, and more). Ordered one of the new Wolverine Reaper Gen 2 Premium engines. Ordered a speed trigger, the internals needed to make the revo kit work, and an r-hopped barrel from the guy I always get my barrels from. Then it was onto externals. Ordered a fully trademarked Eotech XPS, G33 magnifier, KAC irons (closest I could find to gen 2 HK 417 irons - wasnt going to pay that much for the real thing - the rear sight alone is $300...), a Magpul AFG, a Surefire M600DF, and one of my signature blue-lasered PEQs. Rail arrived, and it sent it off with another project that will be unveiled here soon to be cerakoted in RAL8000. Rail returns, and most attachments come in. Decide I need a case, so pick up a Eylar 53in rifle case. Big, but i figured I'd need it. Case arrives, REVO kit arrives, Reaper arrives, bipod ordered and arrives. Install what I can, but Im still waiting for the order from VFC. Rest of the externals come in. Barrel from VFC finally arrived this morning, so in it went, gun went together, foam was plucked, and the HK 417a2/G28 project was complete. Now I can switch back and forth from G28 or 417a2 on the field depending on the role I want to play. The REVO kit also allows for full auto, so if the game allows it that is available. A fun project, a real head-turner (I hope), and it should have excellent range and accuracy. Im happy. Every part that should be is also trademarked, which really adds to the overall look.

  50. These are taken straight from the UKARA website Q&A section/news feed. Use the find function of your browser (CTRL+F) to find what you are looking for if you do not wish to read this in it's entirety, but we would appreciate it if you did. This is to stop repeat questions appearing on the forum This guide has been compiled over a number of months, some of the information may no longer be valid or accurate, though we do try and update regularly. Please read thoroughly. A RIF or in other words a black gun requires you to be 18+ and have a valid defence. An IF or in other words a two-tone requires you to be 18+ only. I am a member of the Armed Forces can I buy a RiF? There are no exceptions to the legislation for members of any of the services, the crown servant section refers to purchase for the crown by crown servants not individuals. Service personnel are still required to become a member of an insured Airsoft Site or Club to be eligible to purchase RIF's. The same can be said for shotgun licences etc. they are not a valid defence. Due to service commitments I cannot play enough times when at home on leave to qualify/how quickly must I play the 3 games? The time period over which you have to play your 3 games is at the discretion of the participating game site providing the 3 games are not played in a time that is less than 2 months, the maximum time period is 12 months. I am under 18, can my parents buy me a RIF? Not unless they are members of one the approved purchasing groups, it would appear that there is no problem of a gift from an eligible purchaser to a minor. I am under 18 can, I buy an Imitation Firearm or "Two Tone"? No you cannot, an IF cannot be purchased by a person under 18 years of age. Who are UKARA? UKARA are a group of Airsoft retailers who have formed an association to protect their businesses and enable the sale of Realistic Imitation Firearms (RIF's), to the newly restricted recognised and approved customers resulting from the Violent Crime Reduction Act (VCRA). Why have they set up the UKARA Scheme? Under the new act it is the responsibility of the seller to verify that the purchaser is approved, and they may be prosecuted if they fail to do this with due diligence. How will the UKARA scheme do this? UKARA has set up an Independent Data Base which will be used to list eligible purchasers and allow UKARA retailer members to check sale recipients are bona fidi. Who are the eligible purchasers? The only groups of persons now allowed to purchase RIF's are Film, TV, Museums, Theatres, Crown Servants, and persons engaged in Re-enactement activities, and airsoft skirmishing. All these purchasers must be over 18 years of age. What must Re-enactment people and Airsoft players do to show the are bona fidi? Both these groups must show that their activities are covered by third party liability insurance and that they are over 18, in the case of Airsoft Players they must also show that they are regular players at an accredited game site. Which means they must be a member of a game site with the appropriate Airsoft Insurance cover. How do players become members of an approved game site and eligible to buy RIF's? The games site has to record you as a member and preferably issue you with a membership card. To qualify as an airsoft skirmisher you must be a regular player at that game site having attended not less than 3 times in not less than 2 months and no more than 12 months. Why the UKARA scheme? The UKARA scheme allows certified game sites to join a list on the UKARA web site to show they are participating in the UKARA scheme, this then means that they can approve UKARA player application forms, the game site having been registered and issued with a validating stamp and recognised signature. Why is this an advantage? If the player downloads a Player application form from the UKARA web site he can have this confirmed by his UKARA registered game site and then send it to any UKARA retailer with his first order, who will then enter the players details on the UKARA Data base. This then means that he can then order from any UKARA member retailer and providing he includes his UKARA game site numbers he can be verified and thus sold to. My game site is not on the UKARA game site list, can I still register with UKARA? No, if your game site is not on the UKARA list then you cannot get your player form validated, you would need to wait till your site joins, or go to a UKARA approved game site. Will UKARA use my personal information for other purposes? No, your information is protected under the DATA protection Act and may not be divulged to any third party unless authorised by you, if you are at any time unhappy you may have your details expunged from the record. It is only there to allow retailers to confirm you are eligible to purchase. Can I have my RIF sent to a different address? No, RIF's must be sent to the registered postal address of the player. How do I purchase from a UKARA dealer at their shop premises? If you take suitable ID such as a drivers license passport etc. along with your UKARA Players number the retailer can check that you are the registered buyer by checking the Data system. What do I do with my players application form? Once you are a member of a UKARA game site and have been a regular there for more than two months, having played at least 3 times, you can get your form verified and then send it off with your next order to a UKARA retailer. You will have to do this by post, and if your actual order is via the net or phone make sure you reference the two together, posting a day in advance of your order would probably also help. Your form can also be sent to a Core or Associate retailer as it makes no difference, though please do not post directly to the UKARA Admin. When they process your order they can add you to the Database, and once this has been done you can order from any UKARA retailer quoting your UKARA site membership number. Please remember RIF's can only be sent to your registered address. Why don't UKARA change the law concerning painting and purchasing of Imitation and Realistic airsoft guns? UKARA is a retailers association and although we did put forward our views to the Government of the day when the Violent Crime Reduction Bill was being drafted we did not get all our ideas accepted and ultimately we did not draft the bill nor have any ability to change the current Act only Government can make and revise UK law. I am under 18 can I own an Airsoft gun and play airsoft? There is no legal restriction to the ownership or use of an airsoft gun whether RiF or IF related to age you may not purchase a RiF or an IF if you are under the age of 18. There is no restriction other than game site own rules and insurance cover as to the age of a player of Airsoft. Can my parent buy me an airsoft gun? They can buy an IF but not a RiF unless they are a member of an insured game site, although if you are under 18 you can be given or win a RIF or IF. Is a red tipped, or camo painted gun legal to import as an IF? No to class as an IF a gun must be 51% government approved bright colour or clear see through plastic. Accepted bright colours are: - Bright red - Bright orange - Bright blue - Bright yellow - Bright green - Bright pink - Bright purple Could you give me more information on how to obtain a Airsoft licence? There is no such thing as an Airsoft License (or A "UKARA") you can become a member of an insured game site and if appropriate register through that game site onto the UKARA database. If I/I have/I am going to, import from Hong Kong, USA, etc will Customs impound my gun? If you cannot prove that you are an eligible importer the Boarder Agency will impound and destroy your import without compensation, if you are an eligible importer e.g. a member of an insured airsoft game site, (and UKARA registration helps a great deal) make sure that you have clear information put on/with your import proving your eligibility. I want to buy RiFs not to play Airsoft but to use in my back garden or hang on the wall? The VCRA was expressly designed to eliminate RiFs from the UK, Airsoft players only got a "Special Defence" because they proved that they needed them for the realistic element in playing Airsoft. I have changed my registration details e.g. moved or a different email address what should I do? Your first course of action is to contact the game site that you are registered with as a member, tell them of your change of address or other details and ask them to update you on their own records and on the database, to which they should have access through their own players section. Hopefully this answers some of the questions that keep coming up.
