@BoneyT - I feel for you guys, I do. I can't spare anything proper, but I've got a Viper LA Special forces vest I could spare, and maybe a very basic black plate carrier (if I can find it). The one in my profile picture as it happens.

    Want a Ppq

Looks like FS must have had their monitoring systems trawling AFUK... It arrived today, so ive been in ownership for a full 8hrs and have a wealth of experience 🤨 Here comes a preliminary findings for anyone interested in this pistol, as in my OP i was looking for a lightweight sidearm for my field and milsim days where i have quite a bit of gear. What with wanting a light pistol that means a polymer / modern type frame. I have relatively large hands, i wanted ease of operation with 'proper' gloves - not nano thin, Durex sensitive types - so large trigger guard and grip with obvious controls. Despite above requirement i wanted a compact pistol - less bulk and profile for running / reduced snagging on fauna. Ambi controls as i generally rifle right handed and pistol left handed - a great perk for drawing your sidearm. Through all this i settled on the VFC made PPQ M2 GBB, despite my massive reservations about buying anything other than a TM. I did consider a Glock build but couldnt be bothered with the tinkering, also been there and done that before - great pistol performance wise in the end but not for big hands personally. Having been pleasantly surprised with the ASG below and ASGs Scorpion from a functionality and performance POV i went for it. This glove is a tight fit across my palm @ 4" / 100mm. These gloves are heavy gauge leather. (and a shiny "new 4 months ago" pair at that to replace the olds, that some unexpected freak of nature event seems to have stopped them from being used 🤔) Historically due to the big hands in gloves ive run big guns like HiCapa's, FNX, or currently the CZ Shadow as my CQB guns. For comparison in size and weight; Size wise the fit and grip for me is perfect, although it looks a little short in the pistol grip i can assure you i have a full and proper hold around the base, unlike a PX4 i once owned or the usual compact class guns. I dont think this is actually classified as a compact, but it must only be a few millimeters shy of the requirement to qualify as one! There seems to be a lot of negative hype about this pistol online, and its generally harder to find good news than bad for sure - but thus far im very impressed... GENERAL FIT AND FINISH Quality feeling polymer / not TM ABS vom, there is a seam on the underside but not offensive - if this becomes a keeper il prob sand and Cerakote anyways. Has removable backstrap, but you only get one... go figure! Slide is aluminium of sorts, cant say what grade but it actually looks far better machined and detailed than a lot of aftermarket slides - inside and out. The finish is a matt applied coating that seems well bonded, way more so than ASG or WE,s attempts. There has been cracked / split slide reports, weather this is isolated to early production models (a good few years ago now) or abuse (lots of people full auto-ing these / higher power gas etc) or is still inherent only time will tell. As is the case with most tilting barrel designs the front of the 'ejection port' does polish/rub. Full correct trades and nice grip texture, high quality moulding work with logos contrasting gloss/matt/textured. Slide to frame fitment is good, minimal wobble but can be moved sideways up front forcefully. Inner barrel rattles if the pistol is violently shaken. All controls and the mags fit very nicely - i would have liked a metal trigger, nut sure if the RS one has? Nice aluminium iron sights, rear is windage adjustable, both solidly fixed. MAGAZINES Nicely made and looking, Walther, PPQ and 9mm markings Plastic base plate - looks pretty strong but without actually dropping it not sure on its actual impact resistance, it will 'self-test' inevitably at some point! 😄 Feed lips look extremely well formed i must say. Silent type fill valve, soft and supple gas route. Big gas reservoir, especially relative to BB capacity. Fit in the magwell is nice, they drop out nicely too. Oh loading BB's... dont know what that guy in the video was on loading the BBs one at a time through the feed lips, just pull the follower down a fire them in the front like most other pistol mags 🤨 INTERNALS All look pretty well made, usual pot ally and steel mixup. The trigger bar is nicely made from stamped steel. Full aluminium BBU Looks to be a proprietary piston lid seal 🙁 Nozzle is nicely made, BBU functions very nicely from an efficiency, fit and return spring POV. Nozzle and bucking mate very well with full seal retained whilst slide cycles back 🤩 Metal outer barrel, Brass inner - 85mm long CONTROLS Slide release - positive engagement, polymer / metal combo. Slide lock, good function on duster / green / mid power gas, but wont catch powerful fast gas on stock recoil spring, at least not with these 20c temps ATM. Love that this pistol is one that automatically releases the slide when a new mag is inserted following a mag empty / slide lock back. My CZ does this also, not sure if its actually a design flaw but i think its great for speed reloads and reduced slide lock wear. Release levers are ambi, metal construction, and long. Personally i think they are too long and are a negative to the PPQ design, Garand Thumb covers this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krZt22UiPDk&t=978s Im going to mill them down to prevent accidental activation (lock back and release) of the slide. Mag release - positive engagement and action, polymer / metal combo Can be switched from left to right side. Obvious to operate, but bumper is nice and prevents accidental drop. Trigger - awesome trigger, this was a big selling point to me. I have had quite a lot of pistols over the years, and tuned a lot too. Got my TM P226 trigger nice but not on the same level as the ASG CZ Shadow ( ican see why its used for IPSC), this PPQ trigger smashes the CZ. Pretty much all GBB pistols ive owned have a stodgy vague pull to the wall, further to that most of them creep - by that i mean the wall can move or disappear, then the gun ghost fires. This can be tuned or worked out, but there are limitations to glitter rolling. The CZ trigger is very nice (in SAO), it has a light pull and obvious wall (although soft). It is consistent and repeatable with no creep, reset is short, light but consistent - all in all a proper fast trigger you need sensitivity for, no wonder its great for IPSC. But not the best for rough-tough-glove action in the field! This PPQ trigger is a dream, the pull is light, clean and short just like the CZ, but the wall is solid - again no creep. From here the pull/fire is crisp and short, reset is very short and very obvious - very impressed. Being a strike fire type it has a Glock style safety - again great for field work, holstered hot. PERFORMANCE 0.2s with Vertex pretty consistent 280 FPS Getting 3 full mags on one gas fill with steady / sporadic firing Getting 1.5-2 full mags on one gas fill with furious rapid fire Recoil is hard and very fast - another selling point, a lot of TMs are lazy in this department i feel. RANGE AND ACCURACY Will get back to you on that, seriously windy ATM. PROBLEMS Sometimes the slide doesnt return fully home, causing gas vent through barrel, i think this is an easy fix though UPDATE the issue above turned out to be the hammer reset, basically theres a rocking triangle that contacts the slide, which in turn resets the hammer. The radius on this triangle is a bit to small which means the slide uses considerable energy to initiate the hammer reset. I removed this part and filed a larger smoother radius so that ti transitions with much less effort. All in all pretty pleased with this at the outset, 12 mags though it, such a crisp little gun 😎

  10. No mention of a MOSFET on Gunfire. The TaiwanGun ones come with them. I've noticed different specs (and prices) on supposedly the same models from CYMA across TaiwanGun and Gunfire. I would double-check before going with the cheapest option. Oh, and the hand guards look like standard M4 which is a real shame.

if it's loosened up a little already then you're almost certainly right. it sounds like they have tightened the tolerance without thinking about the thickness of the paint on the mag... it's probably just one of those things at least that means you should have very good consistency due to a solid gas seal.

I think your right bud, I had another little play on my lunch break today at work, and the mag will seat perfectly if you give it a bloody firm push when its inserted, and again it will release just fine when the mag is pulled slighy towards yourself when the release button is pressed. I can only put it down to very tight tolerances, and even after a few mag changes today its already improved dramatically. I'm sure with time and a few games under its belt it will loosen up a little! 👍

Not gonna lie i was surprised how cheap respectable gats are these days, for example those g36's for £86. I mean if your renting thats 2 shoots worth of fees. Of course that probably doesnt help the op any, sadly i must admit i'm kind of in the "wait until times are better" camp, airsoft (hopefully) isnt going away any time soon and as much as it sucks not being able to get your own kit (as was my life for a few years after i first played), sometimes it's just the way life goes.

All I can say is WOW, astonished by the first post but also impressed the responses you've all given, kudos for your restraint. @BoneyT, I get it, you want to play, we all do, but as has been pointed out, it can be an expensive hobby, it doesn't have to be but often it snowballs. Thing is, we've all been skint at some point in our lives, it sucks but the usual response is to tighten the belt & get through it, not beg on public forums, even if there was someone feeling flush & was prepared to give you a gun, it then potentially opens up a mahoosive can of legal worms. The other issue is we'd be "enabling" you, essentially encouraging you to get involved in the sport (& therefore financial commitments ?) in order to play, all at a time when your focus should be 100% on improving your situation & ensuring your family are provided for, not getting in to a money pit hobby. It would be tantamount to me giving Phil Mitchell a bottle of whiskey for his birthday, it'll only end badly. Best thing you can do learn as much as you can from the various forums & webpages, & when your situation improves, only then consider buying kit. Good luck.

As you have a UKARA you're in luck. https://www.taiwangun.com/en/carbines-rifles/sort:price/direction:asc#product-id:13587 Taiwan gun do RIFs for as little £65 each which would be perfect. The barrier to entry has never been lower. Two of those including shipping is £141 to the UK within the EU. Includes a battery, though you will need to get a UK spec charger. As I said, Airsoft is a luxury sport, with high start-up costs and fairly high maintenance costs. If you can afford the £60-70 it costs to do a day of airsofting for the two of you, then you can afford to purchase at least one of these rifles. I say this because I really doubt anyone is going to donate any rifle, pistol, and kit to you working or not. It's not that we aren't generous, if someone I personally knew was a dedicated airsofter had his kit stolen etc, I would at the very least lend or give one of my less loved rifles to them to keep playing during a tough time. But for a new player to ask for a complete kit loadout is pretty pie in the sky. When I was a kid, I really wanted a set of DJ Decks. The lowest price point for something like that was £200. My Dad didn't have a job and couldn't afford for me to have them. Course I was upset, but I had to accept that it wasn't possible at the time. What money we did have was better spent on essentials or things that were cheaper or free until we were in a better position. If I had asked someone to give me some Decks for free, and the speakers, the mixer etc because I couldn't afford it. I would have had my ass kicked.

  29. Building on Lozart's post... I've played with KM at a private skirmish, someone's stag do. KM is polite enough in person to chat to, and *REALLY GOOD* at playing. We were at Strikeforce CQB - somewhat of a departure for him, he normally sticks to woodland iirc, he was consistently taking out most of my team every time he got behind our lines. He used a TM MK23, when most of the people playing were using GBB or GBBR, and managed to out-gun us a lot of the time. KM has incredible "map sense", and knows how to exploit that, moving quickly. Despite wearing one of Heroshark's custom ghillie masks, he was somehow able to blend into the CQB pallet scenery at times. Someone thought he was going out of bounds - he wasn't, he was just moving quickly enough to get to a position where someone was surprised to see him. What I've said thus far is high praise, and I think he deserves that part. However at the same time I think his choice to brand and edit his videos so they're focused on personal conflict is fucking disgusting. Even putting aside the supposed cruel headshots for a moment, KM makes an active choice to court the type of Airsofter who loves to shame or fight other airsofters - he's making his vids to purposefully appeal to people who want to see people getting whacked in the face with no facepro, or people who want to see someone take a 40mike to the face. It's antithetical to what Airsoft should be IMO. I think it's a shame he chose to take his channel in that direction, his vids from a few years back were completely different in style and tone.

  31. It is a tiny bit stiffer than regular wire but is due to thin but very robust nyrol/mPPE insulation which means you get 3mm silicone wire in 2.1mm thick wire (though to be honest some 16awg might have up to 30x.25 strands (specs do vary) & Alpha is 26 x 0.25mm strands, so a whisker less than some high spec 16awg wire, but 16awg varies but c'mon, if space is tight like in V2 channels, you get the spec without the grind(ing of channel etc...) A word of advice - 14awg Alpha is fucking stiff, much stiffer than the 16awg & I'd only ever consider it on ultra thirsty builds like a really really insane DSG for example - so go for 16awg imho (the 14awg is a c*nt to work with if you need wire to bend in say a v2 pistol grip, but 16awg is perfect) an idea of how it compares - 18awg example...

  33. Remember a while ago on here I mentioned being PM'd by a Chinese manufacturer. Well, turns out they wanted to send me (and presumably anyone else who responded to him) a free plate carrier. Took him up on it, thinking "yeah right, that'll never turn up" Bugger me though, it arrived today! 😂 It's a Big Foot branded carrier. GTPC is the model. It's not half bad actually. Needs a set of phony plates to stiffen it up, but the quality isn't bad at all. The cummerbund has 3 elastic mag pouches on each side so you can carry lots. And the quick release mechanism on the sides is easy to use and quick to take on and off. Lesson to be learned: Always take up the offers for freebies 😂

RIF = realistic. Does not matter whether is is an actual production gun or a sci-fi inspired one. If it looks like a gun to Joe Public, then it is a gun, and that applies to the police as well. I have a fairly good knowledge of weaponry, but seeing something that looks like a real gun and only seconds to decide upon the threat, I would engage the person holding it as if it was real and a potential danger to public safety. Honest held belief that it was real.

You have done nothing wrong. Now that you have a RIF there is no legal impact on possession Strictly speaking, as long as your intent was to play airsoft at a proper site then the retailer has not committed an offence. But they don’t have the audit trail to show them having taking reasonable steps to establish that. If you were just planning to shoot some cans in the garden then they could have been facing a considerable fine With regard to confiscation by the police, that could still happen if you had UKARA registration. Get caught with it in public without good reason and you could be in trouble. Simple solution is don’t be a dick, transport it responsibly and only carry it when going to or from a game. (I don’t always do so and have been known to carry my guns in the boot for some time - even when I’m regularly potentially subject to a full search - but do as I say not as I do!!!!!) I do bag up etc With regard to whether the CR5 looks like a real firearm or looks like a firearm —- it looks like a firearm. The R in RIF is realistic not real, and the definition is very fluffy - if anyone thinks it looks real then it is a RIF unless it is in the defined IF colours
    1 point
  38. What I mean by it not being airsoft, is that it is mostly redundant what you use to play the game. As long as it is gun shape and bonus if it makes a noise or is able to signal a hit on a target. I would say for Milsim, airsoft is the cheapest way to achieve this but miles away from being the best. The Milsim games where I have been on, mostly involved sitting for ages watching the Opfo. Wishing my rifle could range them. This could be fixed with laser markers MILES gear for a truly immersive outing. Even some of the cheaper commercial options, would give you that a more realistic range. It's like when you go to a woodland game and you see bbs falling at your feet. How many times have you stood up and just waved at the guy desperately trying to rain in shots. This but 100% worse when you might only get to shoot a mag the whole weekend. What I have experienced in the proper weekend Milsim games is a lot of walking, lots of time consuming filler tasks, no real idea of the story line after a few hours, hours of watching with optics. Followed by a tiny firefight at the end of the first day and then usually one early the following morning, for them day break feels. While I am sure entirely realistic, the airsoft guns were not the important part of the event. Which is why i again say, I would not call it an airsoft event. Now if you are classing the Stirling Catterick or CHD games as Milsim, then we are talking about different things. They are more structured story lined airsoft skirmish weekend. Their best ones are when they are further broken down into different missions for the whole site, not just 24hrs of town building hoping. I still stand by Airsoft at night sucking for the 99% who don't have NODs

  40. Your rig is a very personal thing, even in the army where your kit is issued and you have SOPs as to where things should go there is a lot of personal variation. For Airsoft I subscribe to the view that you shouldn’t carry more than you need, but even this varies depending on the type of games you play and personal preference. Personally I agree a good belt setup should be the start. This should carry pistol a couple of mags for both pistol and primary and in my case a smoke pouch and functioning first aid kit. I then run a plate carrier with more mags for my primary, a radio pouch, admin pouch and a hydration bladder which can also carry a waterproof or bit of warm kit if the weather demands it. While this sounds pretty minimalist I carry a lot of mags, as I run a GBBR with 30ish round mags and hate carrying speed loaders as they rattle like a bag of nails.
