    Huge Loss of FPS :(

Did you attempt to shim the gearbox? Or get the shims in the wrong order? Did you check the air seals on the piston and compatibility between the new cylinder head and the air seal nozzle? I think you are looking at a compounded set of problems. The first thing to do is start from scratch. Strip it fully. Build the cylinder and piston arrangement, check it for airleaks with a push test. Then start to look at the gears and motor height. I suspect you have overshimmed the sector gear and it's grabbing the tappet plate. From your original post, I suspect that the tappet arrangement is not moving fully. This is either allowing multiple BB's to feed for one cycle, or the gun is cycling but not shooting. Either way, it's the tappet that is causing it, It may, however, be caused indirectly through the tappet, If the Airseal nozzle isn't fully compatible it could be binding on the cylinder head and stopping movement, The gears been badly shimmed could cause it, Or a spring failure. The lack of FPS is caused by the tappet plate in this instance. Because the tappet isn't fully forwards it's not making any attempt at an air seal. Since you spooned the piston as well I'll need to see pictures of the piston arrangement and the o-ring. You may have done some damage you haven't noticed, Like crushing the rear, or chipping the sealing face.

I generate a LOT of heat when I play and I'm not even one to run. So I treat it like swimming, I layer up in the downtime and strip off for a game (not literally but lose most layers to play ). I wouldn't be difficult to spot in the snow as I'd look like a monkey in a hot spring.

What should i do? What to buy?

Do the job properly! It's great to see people who are interested in taking it up but you would probably have a much more fulfilling day going to a real site and learning what it's all about. Different scenarios, more people to play with, real safety and handling techniques. Don't want to spoil your fun but done badly you could end up with serious consequences.

schools off already? backyard airsoft is probably going to attract some unwanted attention, you'd be better off going to proper sites, they're going to have kit you can rent, safety equipment, and a nice big place for you to run around and shoot your freinds (or with them). do that first then worry about what kind of hardware you want to buy, only things it'd be smart to invest anything in at this stage is good boots, good gloves and good eyepro

    Huge Loss of FPS :(

That piston head is fucked. The big crack is only going to get worse and with it the piston head has a good chance to lose a chunk. When and if it does that you will damage the gears and piston. Central sector to piston engagement is not critical. Provided the piston teeth and sector teeth have full mesh it doesn't matter if it's out of line (most gearboxes are off a little). Do yourself a favour. Stop buying marked up parts. https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/index.php?route=common/home Use this shop. Your cylinder head that you paid £20 for...£6.50 on there. https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/cylinder-heads/ra-m4-cylinder-head-pad Piston head £6.50 https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons-heads/ra-piston-head-double-oring-aluminium If you have a soft tappet plate I'd swap that as well. Soft been the flag end is easy to bend upwards, A little spring in the tappet plate is normal, but it should be stiff enough that it doesn't deform and bend when the chip engages the plate. Since you have had a minor smash I would change it just to be 100%. £3.50 https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/tappet-plates/ra-tappet-plate-v2 And since you are putting in an order you may as well have an air nozzle at £4.50 https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/air-nozzles/ra-m4-aluminium-nozzle

Out of the box and have little want or need to open it up - SRS. Buy it, modify it, learn every screw, o-ring and part intimately, spend hours tweaking it and obsessing over it - VSR. RWA - I have no experience of (sorry, but it does look good). I would probably say that if you just want to buy and shoot to go for an SRS and that comes from a VSR owner.

If you have the original packaging then keep it in that. (Even & especially if that’s a cardboard box - as long as it’s the proper cardboard box designed and labelled for the type of pyro) If you don’t have the original packaging then keep it somewhere ambient & dry, and ‘safe’ from harm If you have a quantity then consult the EG pyro storage guidance https://www.enolagaye.com/uk-pyrotechnic-storage-guidance-guidelines/

Consider your neighbours (if you have any?); what they will see, how they may react or who they will call, followed by what will come hard & fast. Also if just one single BB goes over your boundary you're in deep sheep. I see this ending badly.... unless you live on a farm in the middle of knowhere. In fact consider how your actions could effect every player out there. It only takes one to ruin it for all. If the drive isn't worth it then I don't think the activity is right for you. If you were just paper punching that's one thing but skirmishing with your mates in a garden is completely different. It's actually ridiculous.... Far better to make the effort to go somewhere for the reasons above and because you'll enjoy it so much more.

I'd disagree on the VSR 😉 My VSR build was painless however I have built air rifles and shot targets for 35 years previously to airsoft so perhaps it's just a learning curve. I don't mean that how it sounds, honestly I don't! I can't word it any other way... just being honest. Research goes a long way too. I mean most things haven't advanced for a long time so there's plenty of reference out there. I would love an SRS one day and it's good to know they're so reliable and well built. 👍
  28. 1 point
I'd still probably suggest the SRS. Getting the perfect setup on a VSR is an absolute labour of love and often you end up buying a part 2 or 3 times over to get the "right" one although I've just placed an order with AirsoftPro.cz and that seemed quite painless, well priced and I'm relatively sure their parts will work well together.

    Huge Loss of FPS :(

I watched multiple videos of the shimming process and took great care when shimming but I will do another strip down and start again from scratch , the only thing that I was a little unsure of was the bevel gear position and how it interacts with the pinion I replaced the bushes with graphite bushes which a faction thinner which I accounted for with extra shims but your definitely right with a group of errors , this is the first gun Iv worked on since they were kits so I am a bit rusty lol the piston problem I’m hoping is just a case of using oil instead of grease and the feeding problem must be the Tappet plate then,.. I did notice the Tappet plate wanted to raise up over the sector gear Tappet pin not massively but I’m thinking this might be a good place to get right , the other thing I was unsure of was which was the setter gear , ie the sector gear being dead in the centre of the piston teeth or the bevel gear being perfectly meshed with the pinion as I write this I’m thinking it has to be the pinion and bevel gear as that doesn’t really have much of a tolerance in terms of side to side adjustment as the teeth on the piston do have a bit of extra width to play with , thanks Iceni really good points and I’m sure with these pointers I’ll get it right 👍🤞the air nozzle I’m a little uncertain aswell but I’ll get these issues sorted test it then move on to the air nozzle can I carefully wrap PTFE tape around the cylinder head to create a better air seal ?

    This gun, or this gun?

Ones about 300-310fps, This will probably be the one in the gun when you get it. The other spring might be hot at 380ish fps. The springs don't matter so much since it's a quick change system. And you don't have to strip the gun with that model. Just remove the crane stock and buffer tube and everything is there looking at you. Springs are also cheap. An M110 340fps spring is about £5. You could also cut the hot spring down a couple of coils. I've never had a gun two-toned so I don't know how much paint they will use, Or even what sections they will paint. @Rogerborg I suspect there has been some brainstorming about how to take back some of the entry market off G&G. Since for a few years now, they have been the benchmark starter gun. I think specna have made some really decent decisions to try to take a slice back. If they do a budget M16 I'll be all over it, The current M16 they do is about £170... but if they do a poly body A1 with those extra features I may well have to pull the trigger.

    Testing BBs

yeah they did a lot of work for that analysis, i did something similar to work out the advantages of different ammo although not quite to the same depth (they covered effect of firing up to get more reach etc) the key difference between heavy and light ammo is because heavier ammo doesn't slow down as much due to drag it stays in the velocity region where the hop is lifting it for longer (hence more range) and keeps more kinetic energy (which means when it hits the target is more likely to feel and subsequently call it) and ofc the accuracy comes from being less effected by wind/leaves.

    Testing BBs

Just found a few interesting charts I thought you all might be interested in relating to BB weight and distance. Lots of variables with this as every gun setup is different but your average quality gun should give the same results. http://mackila.com/airsoft/atp/07-b-07.htm I get 120feet using .25bbs in my guns with ease at 350fps and accurate. I can also shoot .32 bb weight and get the same distance but more accurate.

How do people line up their red dot?

Parallax causing inaccuracies with a red dot in airsoft. I doubt highly this is the OP's problem. The reason for that is simple. Airsoft isn't accurate enough. You can't do shot on shot placement even at close ranges. You will see it in target shooting circles at close ranges. The air rifle market, for example, is capable of shot on shot placement at 50yards, but most scopes have parallax set for 100yards. So at 50 yards unless you reset the scope's front element you may find the target point can wander if you are not bang on with your cheek weld and eye placement down the scope. And parallax only comes into play when you are away from your parallax setting. If set for 100 yards and you are shooting close to 100 yards it should be bang on. Poor cheek weld and eye placement are not the scope been faulty. A red dot, however, should be almost free of this. And even if it has poor parallax it should not be spot-able over the trajectory of a bb. What is common is people set the dot up on a target that is too close, Or mount it incorrectly. And don't understand how a BB flies. Even with the scope perfect. Range will show more of this deviation. At the end of your range even with a perfect BB flight and hop the BB should be over the aim point. There is also the chance that close up the BB might be under the aim point. The best action for the OP is to have a chat at his/her local playing field and have one of the marshalls show them the correct way to sight in the optic. And Explain how range will affect the aimpoint. I have a feeling the OP's gun is over-hopping.

How do people line up their red dot?

Bench to standing will take some practice as your body position will change. On my AEG I use the red dot as more of a 'guide' than anything else so I'm not overly concerned if its not zeroed in.

How do people line up their red dot?

Agreed.. first set the hop so your B.B. is shooting straight. Then pick a range you want (30m is a good shout) fire a B.B. adjust, fire a B.B. adjust until spot on.
