  3. Echo pretty much what the Colonel said. It's one of the sites I go to along with their Maidenhead site, The Mall and UCAP greenops. It can be a bit mucky/muddy but everything does wash out. Most scenarios are at range as opposed to CQB although there are buildings in some play areas they're essentially shed size so it's not room clearing or anything like that. I think they're offering hotdogs at lunchtime now but it's not enough for lunch so bring your own stuff as well. I may sign up for this Sunday. If not I'll probably go to Maidenhead the week after. It's been awhile since I've gone there.

Wow I never thought my 6 months working in a plastic factory (mostly thermosetting) as a kid would have any use/relevance in later life. The milling will indeed leave it rough and not see-through, 3D printing would be much worse/rougher. You can make it transparent again with combinations of buffing/polishing/heat-treatment/solvent, but it'll be painstaking to do if your just using a standard milling machine and a block of standard acrylic, and easy to ruin. Another concern is if your are doing it in one-man-and-his-workshop fashion, then the milling process can warp the acrylic due to heat. (not its shape, but consistency so it's cloudy/wavy inside). The milling machines at the factory i worked at had massive cooling setups to keep things at specific temperatures, tailored to the compound (which was also tailored to the task) In my time working there, I mostly did finishing on BP garage signs. There's one out there in the UK somewhere which has a delightful sketch of an oil-barrel with a penis f*cking a whale scratched into it, and a couple with a standard 'woz ere'.

  6. The site is primarily a paintball site. This means everything is covered in a grey paste of rotting paint, which has perished to the state where it will stain clothing if you allow it to dry further, especially stuff made out of plasticy materials (like every 'Viper' or similar bit of belt/vest/pouch), so don't wear anything you don't mind getting ruined, or don't lean on any surfaces (trees included) It's got a reasonably good layout, different arenas, few interesting bits like an old bus, which makes for fairly interesting game scenarios. Although several times ended up waiting for paintballers to finish their game in an area. They usually see the airsofters, all their camo and rif, and assume they're playing like the premier league of paintball. can make for some amusing passing comments. Absolute Airsoft was my first site and does get a couple bits of criticism from me in terms of how it's run; - They pander to regulars too much. Several times saw people with hot guns be allowed to use them as long as they promised to increase their MED. Also experienced them getting cut more slack in terms of marshaling. - Marshaling can be pretty lazy, meaning it's usually reduced to a bitch-off due to them not having witnessed anything occuring. although when it comes to the serious stuff (like people kicking off or being totally reckless) they jump into action and do what's required. - The site shop is run by a scammer called Mark (Special Airsoft Supplies), who basically lists all sorts of stuff in stock on his website, takes orders (and the money) and sits on it until he's got enough to order a bunch of sh*t from china. He's had all sorts of trading standards and lynch mobs at him to try and get money back for undelivered items or things being cheap equivalents, or just plain wrong. He's not been allowed into the UKARA club. Bitching aside, as long as you don't buy anything from them that they don't have at the site shop there and then, and don't wear any valuable clothing, you'll be perfectly fine and it'll be a woodland skirmish day as good as any other. For Absolute Airsoft I much preferred their site on the edge of Maidenhead (mostly due to lack of paint)

    Most efficient kill..

Once took out twelve people with a Grenade at Urban Assault. Unfortunately I was one of them and the other 11 were all on my team bloody thing sparked up in my pocket and exploded blowing the leg pocket off and set fire to my combats. Luckily everyone was to busy laughing at my epic dance moves trying to extinguish my trousers they forgot to linch me.so one free grenade got the blue team 12 kills that's got to be efficient.

  8. Hello my name is John and I live in Guildford Surrey and I am 54 years old. Notes: I am slightly overweight and suffer from Tinnitus & Agorophobia. I am 5' 3" and not athletic in anyway apart from walking the dog. My question is why are most people convinced that a new player should not start with a sniper rifle, I fully understand the realities of Airsoft having read and watched so much over the years. As a "prospective new airsoft potential player" my age and physical capabilities (see notes above) means that I probably would more than likely be more suited to a snipers' role/gameplay. This therefore requires me ask others the best way to start into the game in this role and suggest reasonable weapons that are suited to old gits like me The reason I consider the sniper role as suitable is that I (1) would not be able to keep up with younger players (2) enter into a CQB situation (3) dont need to be competitive as far as K:D is concerned ( a good tactical shot is satisfactory above numbers ). Since I was 15 I have been a wildlife stalker/photographer so patience is a big part of my life and there is no rush for me to achieve a goal. I enjoy long walks in the country but hate Golf My basic shopping list would read as follows: TM VSR G-Spec - Silenced (Upgrades as required to achieve site FPS and effectiveness) 3.5-10x50 Scope Ghillie ( as expected ) Various Tactical Clothing items MK23 sidearm or Small AEG (see question below) I am sure my bank balance will suffer but my wife really doesnt need more shoes.... Most sniper rifles are not to be fired at targets closer than 25m however does this apply to AEG's ?

  9. Yup 48yrs young, smoker so I fully understand about fitness etc.... First thing forget ya K D bollox I'll gladly let the younger lot go sprinting off all guns ablazing I'll hold base, or try a sneaky road less travelled route to get a few kills before I'm taken out Failing that I'll go for a decoy or diversion mode of play Hopefully my younger or the more professional players will seize the moment to gain ground whilst my hairy ol'ar$e is being shot to bits..... I know I'm never gonna own or dominate but I play for fun or $hits n giggles that is all.... By all means go for a sniper role, but you can have a great time if you don't take it all too serious and try to play above your level and be something you are not. No offense meant, give it a go but by all means try a few different styles of play without the stress if you succeed or not. You could very well make a good sniper but above all don't get too stressed if things don't always work out. Learn your own strengths n weaknesses but above all enjoy being an unfit saddo with you guns Well it works for me

  10. Yeah general consensus is that if you've not earned it then don't wear rank slides, berets, etc. Best left at home or to be worn as an impression at military fairs/reenactments. Personally I would zip tie the scrim net to your boonie hat when sniping - breaks up your outline more and let's you cover your optics when shooting from a hide. I've done this myself with my boonie hat and it works really well. Being zip tied on means it's very easy to remove as well afterwards or if you don't like it.

  11. Hey John. Welcome to the site. The main reason for the 'don't go for a sniper rifle' is threefold: Firstly, (and surprisingly more than you'd expect) a lot of people get the impression that snipers are taking people out from hundreds of metres away in airsoft - that's just not the case. Minimum engagement distances on most sites for sniper rifles firing around the 400-500fps mark is 15m, but rarely will you see someone being hit over 50m. Basically most 'kills' happy between 15 and 40 metres, and this is well within the scope of a lot of mid-range AEGs. For this reason, the gun alone is rarely competitive. This brings me onto point two. Secondly, it's a different play style that not a great deal of players are actually suited to. You need to be very patient and you need to show up with the knowledge that you might well just be properly outgunned and outmanouvred and may walk away from that day with only a handful of kills. Many new players get turned off after their first or second game using just a sniper rifle and can't justify forking out more money for a different gun and lose interest. Thirdly is the money. You can't really show up with an out-of-the-box sniper rifle and expect it to out-compete everything else. You can turn up with an out-of-the-box AEG and be on par with some of the very expensive stuff most of the time. Expect to spend upwards of £450 on a sniper rifle (if you include the stock gun) on upgrades before it can consistently be hitting those further ranges, have a decent trigger break and a clear scope. Conversely, there are some good entry-level AEGs that you can get for £150 with everything that you need to get started. That said, if you want to snipe then go for it. There are plenty of videos out there that may give you a feel for what you might be in for (just remember they tend to edit most of the boring waiting around out). I don't think your situation means you can't go the usual route. I joke about a lot of people just standing by trees and popping off shots but that's genuinely what a good portion of players do throughout the day when they're tired of running or just not really wanting to get too muddy - I get it. I feel you'd be fine with an AEG and not moving fast a whole lot - most woodland games a medium sized sites tend to have one or two large firefights and not much else, so excessive moment to push up or fall back generally isn't required. There are quite a few older players who simply use decent knowledge of the site and good cover to score their kills so there's no reason you couldn't do that as well over time.

  12. Theres no reason why you shouldn't be a sniper. Younger newbies are usually advised against a sniper role from the get go because its nothing like video games, players normally buy starter sniper rifles which breed dissatisfaction pretty quickly and the lack of action normally means players get bored before they learn to appreciate the many facets of airsoft. Things to consider are that it usually takes a lot of expense or effort or both to get an airsoft sniper rifle shooting accurately and consistently and the fact that you will need to move locations on a regular basis otherwise your position will be quickly compromised and you will get rinsed. Its your game - play it how you want.

You guys were right about the killflash, I have seen some that are tough enough to protect the lens, but I guess they're a rarity UPDATE: Once again. They got in touch (this is about 3 hours after originally placing the order) to let me know that their supplier can't get hold of the product I was after after all, and the guy on the end of the phone was apologetic and prepared to offer a refund. It's a shame they couldn't get hold of what I wanted, but shot happens. At least dealing with the guys along the way was pleasurable and if anything, I feel more confident placing another order in future knowing that these guys give the best level of customer service you can expect

With the kit linked, pretty much the only things missing from it being a full gun are the gearbox and the hop-up section that the outer barrel connects to. Ares/Star used to make a kit that was much cheaper and just the stock but long gone. So I'd say if your JG one has a V3 gearbox, and it looks the same on google as a TM V3, then you're all good. I did it the other way around, i got a CA SL8, and then looked for a aftermarket front-end (bought a laylax one and found forum examples/pics of it being used on every manufacturer of G36, leading me to believe it's a quite interchangeable gun). CA SL8 is only about £200 so after courier and customs on a $150 kit it might be simpler to just buy one of those from UK, and it comes with fair few upgraded (from average CA) gearbox bits that'll trump any JG bit o crepe gearbox (i am jaded against JG). Hopefully you could mix and match between the two and end up with either 2 hybrids or 1 with a few options if you liked.

  19. Dude I don't want to come across a knob but I wouldn't wear rank tabs for airsofting. As people have had to work hard to earn right for that rank and a lot of people will not appreciate a civvy wearing that rank especially a officers rank slide. Edit: but the whole load out does look good.

Think it depends how interested people are in the guns, both Airsoft and their real steel counterparts. Some guys can identify which airsoft manufacturer made your gun, whereas other people will ask me if my HK416 is an L85(yes seriously) One of the things I love about Airsoft is that it lets you do what you want kit wise. If you like a John Woo style loadout then go for it, likewise if you want to wear full USMC clobber then crack on.

Is it just me who find that regardless of how much you can admire from the armchair, at a skirmish it's mostly just a blur of camo and carbine and nothing really grabs your attention? Perhaps I'm a RIF racist because in person they all just look the same to me. Or perhaps I'm only real-steel curious as I can enjoy looking at pics online, but when it comes to the day, i'm not that into it. Mostly it's just yawn M4/16 (i don't care what obscure variant you've made it), yawn SCAR, yawn MP5, yawn sniper (they all look the same, unless it's some kind of 50.cal, then your just hilarious). If it's none of the above then gets a 2nd glance to work it out. Seen a Halo gun and Pulse Rifle that grabbed the attention, but I've kept an eye out for them to see how cheap plastic they look in the flesh. An MG42, but that was mostly as it was being carried by a someone smaller than the gun and seemed a perfect beautiful cliche of 'little-man syndrome' My Thundermall usually gets a glance or two, and the occasional bit of spit.

You're quite right in the case that they claim it would protect your lens in any way - I was curious so I checked and they do indeed state it offers protection: http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-sights-scopes/acm-ta31-type-acog-kill-flash-black.htm#.VfGK9sOD7-U so it's right that a refund was issued. The best shield will always be a thin layer of well cut perspex. Killflashes limit the amount of light entering your scope anyway and reduce - however slightly - the quality of the image you're getting. They're obviously primarily there to limit scope glint and also reduce glare from the sun getting to your eye.

Another typical patrol base experience. Great service, great communication, website letting them down: I ordered a killflash to act as a protector for my new 4x32 optic. When it came it seemed rather flimsy. So a test shot confirmed that it wouldn't even come close to stopping a BB. One email sent on a Friday night, and I got a reply on Monday morning, with a full refund. No fuss or drama. On top of that. I was also offered free delivery on my next order. Now I've come to place my order, I picked a hydration bladder, sorted the delivery out. Within an hour I was phoned by someone at PB letting me know that they didn't actually have any in stock, but more were being ordered, and mine would be dispatched on Monday or Tuesday (2 or 3 working days after placing the order) Not bad service at all. Just a shame the website has a few niggles and you can't filter items by what a in stock

    Wolf Armouries

I wrote this review based on notes that I took as: I was ordering, after talking with customer service when I had an issue (and it's a really, really big issue- more on that later) and packing/shipping upon receipt of the product in question. Part I: Front-End Website/ Products It is clear that Wolf have not updated their website's design recently. I have used their site a few times over the past four years, and it has never once changed, other than product listing/ layout of products. A major complaint that I've seen from other forum users is that everything seems to be out of stock. I can kind of see where they are coming from, even though every major category (of guns) all have at least half of their products in stock. Due to these complaints, I think that it is great that Wolf have finally implemented a sorting system for their products- it organizes their products by in stock first, with out of stock at the end. The site itself does not adjust to fit screen size, with no mobile version- not a problem for me, but can annoy some people. Part II: The Ordering Process You find the product you want- in my case, a Tokyo Marui Foliage Warrior (at the time of posting, it’s on sale if you want one). Then add it to the basket. But don’t leave the website when you have added something to the basket because, for some reason, the site didn’t save my basket. This was one of the most annoying things about the site for me. I mean, my basket cleared midway through PAYING FOR my order, which caused a website glitch (more on that soon). They offer ONE shipping method in mainland UK. And it costs £9.50. It IS next working day (don’t make the same mistake I did and order on a Friday morning), but I think it is an essential to offer an economical option for shipping- maybe taking a few days longer but cuts the costs for the user. Even a "Spend more than £200 for free shipping" option would have been appreciated, as a kind gesture. Wouldn't have affected me, but it's a bit ridiculous. So you proceed to checkout, only to find that you have to create an account to place an order. This is the only area on the site that you can make an account. That’s OK. I mean, at least I have somewhere to track my order progress through and check the usual stu--- wait, there isn’t even an account page? No order tracking? No past orders section? Nope! Your account lets you get through checkout more easily on any future orders. That’s it. Barebones doesn’t even cover it. So, after registering your account, you get to possibly THE worst online payment page that I have ever seen. I’m a second year computing student and *I* could probably make a better one. I chose to pay by Debit (under Wolf’s Credit option), so I can’t comment on other payment methods from here on. It has a couple of fields which only apply to one or two credit/ debit card companies- which confused me while I was filling out the stuff that I usually fill out. I got my confirmation email, with a note that (because I’d ordered before 12 Noon, my package would be dispatched same day). And that’s when I found the big problem. Part III: Issues & Customer Service I opened up the confirmation email, and noticed that the total cost was £20 MORE than it should have been. I wondered if I’d accidentally ordered a magazine or something and checked the receipt (same email). The system had, for whatever reason registered my MARUI order as a KWA Glock 18-which was £20 more expensive. This was obviously a big problem so I decided to give them a phone call. By my watch, my first call was made at 10:55. I was put through to an automated voice mail stating that their opening hours are between 11am and 5pm, then it hung up. OK, so that’s a bit of a weird opening time. Anyway, I got through to them at 11:05. The guy on the other end of the phone heard my problem, checked the order and confirmed that it had come through as incorrect on their end. He made a few jokey comments on the phone- the usual airsoft store stuff- and corrected my order there and then. I let him know what I thought had happened, and about the shopping cart bug that I’d experienced. He listened, and thanked me for letting them know. I personally thought that dealing with them over the phone was a relatively pleasant experience, given the circumstances, even if their opening times are bullcrap. Part IV: Communication & Shipping Communication is really important for me. I like to know when my order is received & when my order has been sent out for delivery, at the bare minimum. I got my confirmation email for the wrong product but, even after calling them up, didn’t get any confirmation that the right product had been sent out until I opened up the package. As a matter of fact, I received NO communication from Wolf other than that one email I’ve shown (and a seriously barebones one at that!) and the phone call that I made. I got a text from their courier on the morning of my delivery letting me know the driver’s ETA (3:30-4:30pm). That was all the communication that I got, and half of it was from UKMail! As previously mentioned, UK Mainland only has the one £9.50 shipping option. I’ve already mentioned that, so I’ll save you the drone, but I’m a bit unimpressed with only one shipping method. Packaging was OK but, again, bare minimum. Box wrapped around 3 times in bubble wrap placed in UK Mail shipping bag. I always prefer having a gun sent out in a cardboard box with padding as it leaves less chance of damage to the inner box, however Wolf’s packaging sufficed. Luckily Marui’s boxes have really good padding in them. Here are some photos of their packaging: 1- This is what the gun box (shown in picture 2) was wrapped in. Literally 2 folds of bubble wrap held together by a standard piece of sellotape. 2- The gun box itself. Very well padded. I'd expect nothing less from Tokyo Marui though. Then both were placed in the postage bag shown in picture 3. 3- The bag that all of this was sent in (back side to protect my address). It's thinner than a piece of paper Part V: Summary & Final Thoughts Front End Website/Products: Good: -Product selection (lots of rare goodies) -Products break down by category very well -Prices seemed fair for MOST of their product selection -Search bar is useful for searching for what you want... Bad: -...However it can be a pain to just browse products. The site has NO sorting capabilities such as sorting guns from Low price to high price. This can be REALLY annoying if you have a budget, or are looking for a specific brand or style of gun (EG: Glock as a subcategory under Pistol). - Very little information on product pages - The Front End looks seriously outdated. The site's layout has not actually changed in the 4 years I've been viewing their site. Same featured brands and products... - Still quite a lot of out of stock products (but it is unreasonable to expect every product to be stocked all of the time) Ordering Process: Good: - It lets you order using credit cards. Which is nice. - It is how you buy your products. That’s it. Bad: -Pretty much everything else. If you skipped this bit, please read it. It’s the most important. Customer Service: Good: - Listened to feedback/ reporting errors (something that a lot of companies really don’t do) - Staff member was kind and understanding over the phone and seemed willing to help. Bad: - 11AM to 5PM opening hours makes it difficult to contact them - The fact that there was an error in the first place is pretty bad Communication & Shipping: Good: -Got a confirmation email -Delivery time was sent to me -Package was not damaged upon arrival, and the product works Bad: -Bare minimum communication from Wolf themselves -Packaging could have been far better (ESPECIALLY if I pay £9.50 for it!) -No shipping options. Just one. Which is overpriced. Would I order from Wolf Armouries again? Probably. Their customer service was pretty good, and their product selection is really nice. A few major letdowns prevent this from being a site that I’ll go to before anywhere else, but I’ll order from them if I need to. Heck, I have an account so that’ll make the order easier… Overall, I’d rate Wolf Armouries a 7.5/10. Yes, I did just write a 1400+ word post. If you made it this far, thank you for reading! Oh yeah, here's a photo of my new pistol. Well worth the cost 16/09/2015 edit: HOLY PLOT TWIST BATMAN! Earlier on today, I received a phone call on my mobile phone from an unknown number. Curious, I answered it. It was a representative from Wolf Armouries. They said that they had read my review on here (this post). I expected that they were calling to ask me to take this review down- something that has happened with another airsoft company (JustBBGuns- yeah, I'll name and shame them) over on TrustPilot about a year ago. How wrong I was! Their opening line was "Hi Daniel, we've seen your review on Airsoft Forums, and would like to THANK YOU for your feedback." That took me aback slightly. The customer service representative then gave me a brief overview of what is going to be changed with the site. My mobile connection wasn't great, but what I got from the rep was that Wolf's website is going to be updated over the next year or so. Hopefully this goes ahead because, as I said in the review above, the site seems relatively outdated. They thanked me for taking the time to write the review, because "they don't learn what people thought of their experience if nobody tells them about it". I THINK THAT THIS IS BRILLIANT CUSTOMER SERVICE! As a result, I've added an extra point to my final review score.

    Good DMR Choice?

No such thing as an out of the box DMR. You need to buy a base AEG/GBB and spend a lot of cash upgrading it. It's easier to do with a GBBR but you will have a lot of temperature inconsistencies, unless you use an HPA system like Polarstar (expensive) Daytona Gun (also expensive) or the Wolverine SMP. If you're going to use that as a base gun, see if you can buy it without all of the accessories. You're better off spending the extra cash on internal parts. Chances are that the accessories are more expensive in that package than they are when purchased individually.

  45. Just bought an E&L Ak74 second hand but pretty much unused. £240 It weighs a tone. Even more than the l85 I just sold. Just waiting for more bits for my Soviet loadout.

  46. I'm another one that wants a G3, got a friend that has a TM G3 with a metal body kit, looks awesome and doesn't creak!! Also does anybody know whats happening with TM HK45? I want one but they are all out of stock everywhere, last I heard they are having issues with the trades. Here's my heavily modified TM MP5K

  48. Realistically, for me, any gun that actually looks what I'd call 'sorted'. Don't care on the platform or the make, but it's really bloody rare I see a gun with a setup that makes me think "that's actually well done" (obviously excluding the comedy guns in this one). I get people might be limited on the batteries the have in relation to the gun and their budget etc, but if you can't afford to setup your rifle in such a way that all the weight of that Large type NiMh isn't entirely dangling directly from the wire connection.. well I think you should just wait til next payday before attending another game. If anything for your own sake as that's just not a good thing for the battery, the gun or the shooter. Also anyone that actually uses their attached foregrip, be it vertical or angled. I almost never see those used, they're just hanging out in front there while the shooter grips the magwell all day long. Not saying people 'aren't allowed' to grip the magwell that's entirely personal preference, but it's rare I see anyone actually utilise the foregrip they've paid for and attached, so that stands out to me.
