British camo?

Hi all,

My L85 project is well underway now, so I figured now I have the right gun, I want the right outfit to match... "Outfit to match" lol this is like the stereotypical woman half of airsofting...

Anyway, I know almost literally nothing about camo patterns, the related acronyms etc etc.

I've heard of multicam? A mix of desert and woodland? I want upper and lower halves in that camo pattern with the actual clothing item being British military issue, something that'll suit my ACOG, RIS, foregrip, badass L85... If possible? If you don't follow, it's because I need educating... Please offer lessons.

Also, what kind of chest rig would I need to match this desired look?

Anyone got any ideas about the cost of the full set, uppers, lowers, rig?

I would provide a photo of what I want it all to turn out like, but I don't fully know myself yet... I guess a dead horse would be as much help as me describing my problems...

All help and suggestions appreciated.

Yes, that exact thing haha.

Any non-ebay stores?

I don't have a paypal account, I'd rather just deal with a debit card as per usual, or cash... I'll check in my local army surplus tomorrow, he's a pretty awesome, ex-squaddie guy, and he's irish, which y'know, just makes people cool anyway lol. He may have something for me, or at least advice.

Any online stores that specialise in this sort of thing?

Wow, the RICAS is a bit dear... Do those pouches only fit one mag? Think I might just stick with my cheap and cheerful viper vest and hold off on the full Brit Army look until I win the ruddy lottery lol.

Already living up to Dev's 'indecisive' designation haha, only just saw the thread.

If you can't get hold of any MTP (and you'll probably struggle without using ebay) then just go for desert DPM (DDPM for short), there's plenty of that stuff around. Obviously it's not as up-to-date because MTP replaced it, but if you go for the UBACS (under body armour combat shirt, t-shirt main body, camo sleeves) and the trousers you'll be alright.

You can't buy the latest version Osprey in MTP as a civvie yet, which is why many people suggest the multicam Warrior rigs, this one's probably about the closest you can get looks wise:

The RICAS compact is an excellent rig no doubt, I have one myself in OD, but it's quite a bit different to the Mk4 Osprey (which is the one in MTP).

However, if that's out of your budget range, then again the older DDPM osprey designs should be fairly easy to get hold of now they're no longer in use. Put some tan Warrior pouches or issue DDPM ones on to the osprey and there you go, most of the way there.

For other details you could go for the issued DDPM leather gloves, and the most commonly seen boots are the issued Lowa desert boots. Though all the choices with regards accessories and ancillaries are really dependant on your budget and how closely you really want to replicate the look.

I like the look of the Warrior rig, but as with the RICAS, my jaw has fallen off. It's a good job I'm typing lol.

Any ideas how long it'll be before MTP gear is more widely available? The longer I wait the more I'll have saved and I'd like to be able to do something airsoft related right on my first try, for once lol.

I think I'll stick with finishing my L85 for now, then I can tweak it over the next year or so, then when I've got next year's student loan coming through, I can get the whole look sorted out in time for the Ground Zero NAE... Hopefully lol.

Cheers for the help Kinnerley.

Well, the army are getting rid of the MTP they use at the moment and are getting a newer gut of it at some point this year, not sure when though but maybe in a few months

I'd say your best bet is waiting for that, then i'd assume lots of MTP will be going on the cheap and in surplus stores etc.

I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out for that when it happens then.

So I need MTP upper and lowers, with a UBACS top and an osprey chest rig for the closest likeness?

But Multicam will be close enough with a Warrior or RICAS rig?

Estimated cost of those two set ups? £200 each? More, or less?

I'm not too bothered about getting the same boots. Though mine are starting to make a weird squelchy noise whenever I walk on hard surfaces, which I can see getting me shot a lot at some point down the line...

Anyone know of any way of making that stop? Or are my boots FUBAR?

Thanks again for the help.

It's my brothers, but he never uses the forums and he uses my kit as much as I use his, so I thought I'd include it in my weapons section lol.

The general surplus release of MTP uniforms is quite possibly one of the most widely debated subjects in UK airsoft, and I see unfounded rumours chucked around by civvies with such gay abandon it's alarming.

Unless you can become mates with someone who works in Defence Procurement then there's no way of getting a definitive answer, it could be a week, it could be 5 years, nobody know for a fact so there's no point guessing end of the day.

Couple of notes: The osprey is an armour carrier as opposed to a chest rig. Not picking at your terminology, it's just that when it comes to buying this kit you'll find things a whole lot easier and faster if you type the correct stuff in to your searches.

Also for your weapon list on the side there, there's no such thing as an L85A3. For some unknown reason certain people assumed that when the DD RIS came in the A2 was being upgraded, that isn't the case. Until significant changes are made to the actual TMH or internal workings of the weapon, it will remain the A2.

I know it's not officially known, or designated as the A3, but I want people to know that it has the RIS and all that on it, but writing all of that down doesn't fit in the box lol, so that was the easiest way of saying it. It's why I left the 'A2/' part there and didn't just change it to L85A3.

As for the armour carrier/chest rig clarification, cheers.

I've seen MTP floating around some of the army surplas but you acctualy have to look in the shops to find it because it's not the sort of thing they put online since they only get one or two pairs in from guys back from Afghan.

To be honest I'd say you have three options:

Try and fin MTP

Go for DDPM

Use multicam as a substiute

Remember if a multicam rig/plate carrier is too ecpensive get a DDPM it will look fine with multicam/MTP
