I'm thinking of getting my first sniper as my next gun, but I can't decide which is the better route to take.

Personally, I prefer gas guns over any other kind (in Airsoft anyway) because I'm a money wasting moron lol.

I like that gas guns operate more realistically, the bolt opens and you can see the rounds being chambered, they have to have real cap mags and they don't drop BBs when you reload etc but does anyone think it's worth the extra cost, or would a spring rifle out shoot it for a fraction of the price?

Also, I would kill to get an AW.338 Lapua but I can't find a spring one for love nor money.

What do you guys think? Gas, or spring?

That's not a bad idea actually.

I was seriously considering the KJW M700 a few weeks back, which I know he has one of, but all my current kit is British armed responce/SAS themed (L85A2, MP5A4, Sig P226), aside from my M16 obviously, so an AW is my ideal choice really.

Do you know when Ares are releasing it?

I wish there were airsofting shows like there are for model planes and that kind of thing.

'Cos I'd much prefer to have a go with everything I want before I buy it, 'cos I would just buy the gas one anyway, I'm just skeptical of gas rifle performance since my M16.

Also, there were two guys with two tone spring snipers at my site yesterday, I had a go with them both and they were the most god awful things ever, I can't believe they were even using them.

I want to say that they'd just set them up appaulingly, but the shots were veering off all over the place, it was just like my M16 except with an insanely crap rof.

Why is it called a AW.338 when the AW .300 and AW .308 are the same gun...........

And id rather just Use/Build a DMR. a sniper rifle that cant shoot at least 300m is a crappy sniper........the whole point of snipers is to stay at distance and hidden, cant really do that with airsoft.

Be careful before choosing! I bought myself a lovely spring sniper (which I have had no problems with so far) but the first time I took it skirmishing (my first airsoft skirmish ever...) I was told the local police had classed snipers above 400fps as air rifles and I wasn't old enough to use it, even though I could purchase the gun fine...

Essentially, check your local rules concerning gas/spring. Another rule imposed was no CO2 weapons, as they were also "air rifles" according to the police.

If rules aren't a problem, then I'd say spring purely cause I'm biased and it feels more realistic, pulling back the bolt. Nobody like being sprayed by a sniper, anyway. :P

Tell that to my head ;)

Got taken out by a sniper at last game. Right in side of head, never saw him. didnt hear it fired, was only single shot, got me thinking about maybe going for a sniper role one day :)

.338 is the calibre.

They're the same gun, but use a different round.

Also, as I play in a very dense woodland site, it's quite easy to hide in bushes and things if you make your own specialised guille suit, so sniping is pretty good.

There was this guy a while back who turned an old hoody into a guile suit with some camo netting, did the same to his M14 and I'm not kidding when I say he might as well have been invisible lol.

He got so many knife kills after the fighting line advanced past him and once he was even within a foot of being trodden on, it was pretty amazing.

Ed, i know its the same gun, I have one. only reason i got the .308 barrel installed was coz its about 50 quid for 20 round box. where as .308 i get 50 round box for 20quid

(i have firearms license BTW)

Which is also the reason i shoot my GSG-5 alot more as its cheap at 500rounds for 20quid :D.

Made me laught soo farking hard though when i saw a BB gun cost more then the real thing, made me laught even more when i saw a deact version going 100 more then retail for a working one. gota love how that makes sense
