Had an idea!

Hey guys, I was looking around in the forums and from my personal experience of posting so many different threads and making tons of posts to gain information do you think it would be possible to make a kind of "Super Airsofting guide" that would be broken down into many sections all edditied by the public and double checked by everyone. Kind of like a wiki page but better. This would have a section and subsection area and could be expanded massively. There are already some great guides on here that with permission we could pull into the guide to make it really effective.

There are loads of areas we could look at like:

*roles*

- Point man

- Support gunner

- Sniper

- Recon

- ETC

- ETC

Then it could be broken down inside the guides of what type of weapons you should be using and tactics a bit like this:

-sniper

-Main weapon - what to buy - what to look for in a sniper primary - attachments and upgrades - user reviews

-Secondary weapon - what to buy - what to look for in a snipers secondary - attachments and upgrades - user reviews

-Gear - what to buy ETC

-Tactics

-your role in the team - position - covering - communications ETC

Then we could break away from the roles to get onto a more detailed level of guns and gear including user reviews and upgrades then we could use a difficulty meter ranging from novice - intermediate - advance - Veteran

E.G.

Changing the spring on a sniper - difficulty Advance

attaching a scope on a rail - difficulty novice

I have lots more to add this and right now Im just getting it all on paper what do you guys reckon?

I like the idea but it would have to be really organised to work

I know I have sent basically the same message to rocky Dave to get him to look over it if he likes it there is more chance we can go to the admins with it, I just think it would stop a lot of threads with questions that could be answered just once and also make AF-UK have a great organised database of air soft information which would hopefully pull in some new members.

Well, I'm all for it, I've already started tbh, if u want, take a look at the guidec I did in my sig

Yeah marksman if you read my post I said there are already some great ones on the site and yours was what came to mind if we could pull yours into the mix when doing it would save time and give us a great template. Would you mind if we were to use yours if it goes through?

Yeah, I think after doing mine though, it would be necessary before hand to decide on all of the sections that will be In it- then allocate each part to people who are interested in helping.

It will reduce the time needed to do it and allow more people to help

Yeah the organisation behind this is going to be huge but if we assign people to sections it will make things a lot easier and what we will need are some people that are experainced in the sections to check the information and make sure its all correct.

OK then, I think the first thing we ought to do Is work out all the sections that are needed

Im jottting that all down then ill throw it up in this thread for you guys to see then we can work out the kinks.

And I just sent a Pm with this idea to the Root admin so I'm waiting for the reply.

So if we say have it like this

Satrting Airsoft

-How to get into airsoft

-How to find a site

-Choosing your first gun..... we should say that for your first gun, it should't be specialised, assault rifle so the player can see what they want to get from their on- then we can talk about specialised roles with specialised weapons later

-Kit needed to play

Here wecan have a section for things like

-Face protection

-Radio's

and other items

Forming a team and allocating team roles- this is where we can talk about specialised roles, including the guns and kit etc

-Captain/leader/whatever

-Riflman

. guns+accesories

.Equipment and kit etc

-Grenadier

-DM

-Sniper

-Gunner

-Scout/Recon

-Spotter

-Pointman

Like this:

-sniper

-Main weapon - what to buy - what to look for in a sniper primary - attachments and upgrades - user reviews

-Secondary weapon - what to buy - what to look for in a snipers secondary - attachments and upgrades - user reviews

Then tactics and other parts

-Tactics

-your role in the team - position - covering - communications ETC

Then we can have a section on the internals of guns, explaining what each thing is and does.

EG.

Sears

Hop-up bucking

Hop nub etc...

Then any links to things that can be helpful etc

I realise this is probably too much etc. but we can use this as a base to work from

Yeah that was the idea Marksman so good to see were on the same page with that and I figured id have to put that in the beginners guide. I have just spoke to the root admin and he said that we can't make it an official guide unless only trusted people are allowed to edit it as it could be vandalized and im too new to the site.

So i guess if we could get a "trusted" committee to monitor what is added maybe that would be the best option.

And the 4.1 section is daves best one id say lol should just call it section 4.dave

I think thats fair enough, or perhaps just one person edits it, so if someone makes a change to it, people could send the new text to that one person to change

That way, one person collects all of the parts from everyone and puts them all together for the final piece, that way it won't get vandalised

I think the problem with using one person is that if they leave the site or something like that it will be a problem plus the information could take a long time to come up if that person cant get on so a small team of 2-3 would be best.

And can this forum support embedded Youtube videos?

As I was thinking of adding a video tutorial section as well to help better explain/show things.

And I guess having someone I trust running this like Dave would be best Im not gunning for glory with this and I don't want all the attention for it but what I do want is to be able to help out with it and make this a great feature on the site does that sound fair to you?

I'm happy for you to do it but a group of you need to club together to do it. You need to figure out a way of doing that.

For it to pass as an 'official guide' it would need to be well written i.e.:

- Easy to read

- Not huge walls of text (people just won't read them)

- Similar style of writing and layout throughout, it can't just seem like a load of information mashed together

- Writing must be to the point and spelling, grammar and sentence structure needs to be top notch

- The information needs to be correct and futureproof (mentioning brands isn't easy, JG for example used to be recommended but now people would find them hard to come by)

- The information needs to be in a logical order, and you need to consider everything as if you were a new player (try and forget what you know)

- Current guides and FAQ's especially on VCRA need to be looked at so you don't miss anything

That probably isn't all but you've got a fair task on your hands if you want to do it.

Hey Devastator I just want you to know I totally agree with what your saying and in-case it sounded like I was complaining I wasn't. And I know that if we were to work on it and just keep getting thrown back and forth between you or someone you chose to check the information over we can come up with a solid guide to airsofting. maybe if we appoint one person in specific to be the head guide checker and then pass it to him/her every time something is changed we can insure consistency and effeteness as well as keeping the guide looking good.

I know this will take weeks of work to perfect but I'm willing to help out as often as possible.

This forum does support Youtube videos - you can use the tags

You want to be looking at building up a list of people who put their names down here. You need to build up some kind of criteria though i.e. 2 years of airsofting min, maybe a min age etc.

Dave, Marksman and Tungsten have shown interest. There are certainly a few other knowledgable people on here, bigshep, Cyrax, kejot, Cerbo Knight, Alex Gale, Nex and Finius just to name a few (sorry if you felt missed out :P). Whilst some might not want to add anything to the guide it would be crucial you try and get these kind of guys on board.

The rest of the mod team and I will probably read it over when it is nearing completion. I have worked out how it can be posted up on here.
