Favourite Gimmick?

I'm wondering what people's favourite pointless gimmick in airsoft is, be it go, games or guns. Mine has to be the functioning bolt catch on AEGs. It's completely pointless yet so satisfying locking the faux bolt back then hitting the bolt release.

Tossing a spent TRMR into a room and nailing everyone as they run away from it like it's a timed grenade :D

I was just looking at toy plastic grenades and thinking... how underhand would that be?  I mean, using a spent BFG in extremis is one thing, but deliberately carrying and lobbing dummies round every corner might be a  tactic.

One thing I am casually keeping an eye out for is some form of throwable flashy light.  The CQB site at which I play has a no pyro in the staircases rule, which makes taking them a real chore.  Bouncing a strobe light round the corners might liven things up a bit, but I haven't found anything that's both usable and affordable.

https://www.amazon.com/Brite-Strike-RID-3-Tactical-3-Pack/dp/B002SJ6E2E = don't strobe, most reviewers seem to just like talking about holding their tactical balls.

http://strike-light.com/tactical.html = $300 dollah

Hmmm, strobe juggling ball?  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/331295294957

Aww, not very strobey, not very bright: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xRTR5kb5ywI

At paintball (yes yes I know, I didn't much enjoy it but it was a family thing) I spent one game picking up spend paint grenade halves to the amusement of my "team" but after chucking them all one after the other into the objective keeping the defenders busy panicking I managed to rush the house and clear it :)

Tracers are my fave gimmick though.

They are sparkly when the shatter and look hella cool.

But I firmly believe they are only useful for winding me up as I can CLEARLY see I hit you and you haven't called it!!! GRRR

Still look cool though ;)

Agreed, I could never go back to playing the Mall without a tracer.

I tend to leave it now, prefer to be unseen, and a few well placed shots mostly get people calling hits ;)

Sometimes when there's no pyro left and door ways are bottle necked a dead grenade allow the game to progress.

My personal record was at the Mall, and I know how many criticise the place for non-hit takers, was 8 people calling hit when my live TRMR didn't detonate. So technically I've had a higher kill rate without it going bang than when it does :D

I always chuck spent pyro around corners there, underhand or not if it gets people on the back foot I will try it

Before splashing out on a strobe for staircases I’d check with the site if they would be happy

(the ‘lesser’ non strobe balls shouldn’t be a problem but it they object to pyro on the stairs they may also object to strobes if their concern is trips and falls)

On general gimmicks the best non functioning item I’ve found is the pyro we don’t set after we’ve had a good selection of trip wires, mines and remote control pyro

Once players have seen a few people eliminated they become more cautious when moving around or avoid obvious areas.

Ive even had games where just my presence standing in a corner and I’ve been given a wide berth or heard people saying to watch out because ‘pyro man’ is over there

(I’ve been setting and resetting trip wires or prop operated pyro, controlling pyro or just giving Marshall overwatch or photographing)

Like other posters have said, anything thrown into an area can give you a moments distraction advantage

My next favourite gimmick is the rubber frying pan.  For our Battle Royale format we plant a variety of weapons, the ‘better’ the weapons capability the less (or zero) ammunition we load.

A skirmish weapon becomes unlimited, all you need to do is be faster and quieter to gain kill streaks

Canted irons are a little gimmicky as tilting your rifle makes the hop spin the bb off the center of gravity and thus your line of fire becomes curved or arched. Still useful at close range if you have a DMR type setup, also makes for the occasional lucky shot round a corner which is hilarious.
