So, as some of you may know i decided late last year to make my own Kydex holster and thought i'd share a few pics of what i have been making late.

two XDM ones, Glock 17, D Eagle and i did make a MK18 pistol but lost the pics. These aren't easy to make even more so when it's all pretty much by hand.

Cool, Safariland holsters are all Kydex as well; Bill Rogers invented the first Kydex holster. I've used Kydex in a Diabetic kit I made, it's great stuff.

Thanks Al. Here's three I completed yesterday. The two smaller weapons have had to have three eyelets as my setter broke after putting one into the eagle holster. The retention on the with one in is outrageously GOOD.

Quick question regarding kydex holsters, planning to make a couple for my M82 mags, but I was thinking, is it possible to do one side absolutely flat?

thanks

and I know this could be classed as a necro, but I thought it would be more efficient than doing a new topic.

I make mine almost flat, I use a vacuum bag (the type used to store clothes/blankets etc) to form them. I say almost flat, to stop the mounting screws for the belt connectors and molle set ups rubbing the pistol I build up the area under the trigger guard to the widest point, which tends to be the slide. Then add a little more depth for the point where the screws will be.

Mine are not as detailed and defined as the bottom one of the three above but that's not what I am aiming for, they are closer to the tan pistol. I work on the basis that I want the gun to be snug but not super tight then I heat up the area where the trigger is and gently squeeze this in, the 2mm indent actually holds the pistol very securely and means to draw the pistol it takes a gentle but distinct pull.

If using a press I would have thought it would be a case of removing the bottom foam, or pressing onto ply perhaps.

thanks, I was thinking about using some wood or something for the base, but I haven't seen any pics or anything else obvious. will post an update when finished.

Is this hard to do? I'm struggling to find a decent holster for my KSC M11a1 and I think one if these would be ideal. I'm pretty good with making things, make quite a few car parts in carbon fiber etc before. Are there any guides etc?

With the right tools they aren't easy to make just take time as once it's pressed your then need to shape it, polish it, set eyelets for retention in the right place. I make them fully by hand but if you have a table belt sander that speeds up the process.

Yeah you can make one side flat as log as the other is moulded correctly it won't make any difference buddy.

Not got a belt sander but a Dremel with a million attachments! Might look into this
