January 2012

The Swedish government against the will of its own citizens, The United States, Great Britain, Germany and NATO, allowed the Russian sponsored company "Nord Stream" to begin the construction of a huge gas pipeline project and cross into and pass through a large region of Sweden. The fact that Swedish government had ignored all legal issues raised by security councils and environmentalist worried NATO deeply. NATO sees the gas pipeline project as nothing more than a Trojan Horse to allow Russian military forces to patrol and control the Baltic Sea and surrounding lands.

February 2012

Acting without Swedish knowledge or consent, NATO reacted and deployed 3 Commando (Cdo) Brigade's Brigade Patrol Troop (BPT) Royal Marines (RM) into an Area of Operation (AO) in Sweden. Experts in Arctic Warfare, BPT parachuted into the AO where they initially carried out long range reconnaissance patrols which led to direct action strikes against Russian ground troops and equipment who had indeed crossed the border and into Sweden.

BPT's detailed tasks and missions were carried out successfully and paved the way for a larger NATO force provided by 42 Cdo RM to deploy into the region and begin to push back the remaining Russian ground forces. 42 Cdo RM was indeed successful and the region was stabilised and under NATO control.

July 2012

A scaled back NATO security force reluctantly agreed to share the security of the region with the Swedish armed forces and elements from 42 Cdo RM began working alongside a Swedish Army Guards battalion, the Livgardet supported by elements from the Swedish Special Operation Unit, The Fallskärmsjägarna.

However, NATO has maintained a covert ground manned reconnaissance footprint in the area provided by small special forces teams from the elite Special Boat Service (SBS). This footprint is without knowledge or has it been sanctioned by the Swedish government who NATO has always believed will allow Russian ground troops back into Sweden to once again occupy the region and allow Nord Stream to continue work on the pipeline.

Small hit and run guerilla type attacks have also been carried out against the Swedish Army and now NATO troops patrolling the area. The Permanent Joint Headquarters (PJHQ) believes these attacks are being carried out by a Swedish para military organisation who is dead set against the pipeline, the soft stance of the Swedish government and indeed the incursion of NATO and previously Russian troops onto Swedish soil.

November 2012

One of the SBS Call signs - BLACK ONE ZERO who has been manning a forward Observation Position (OP) close to the Russian/Swedish border, has reported a slow but steady build up of Russian ground troops just across the border in Russia. Also, small four man teams have been seen infiltrating across the border into Sweden and disappearing quickly into the dense forests within the AO.

This information coupled with the constant low level militia attacks against her troops is prompting NATO to deploy further Special Forces troops into the AO.

X Squadron from the SBS have been put on a high state of readiness and have been told to prepare for an extreme cold weather operation in Sweden. The mission will be to provide a ground manned reconnaissance element iot* identify the Swedish Militia group carrying out attacks against NATO troops and begin aggressive action against all Russian military forces on Swedish soil.

I would like to say a massive thank you to all who successfully attended Operation WENDIGO 2 (RESOLUTION) with TIER 1 in Sweden February 2013.

The event was a highly realistic and challenging 48hr Combat Operation. Once again Anton from PANDION Airsoft had put together a highly intelligent scenario in which we were able to operate independently as one UK troop. Our tasks were realistic and challenging and all had to dig deep throughout to ensure we all were able to stay focused and complete our mission(s) together.

The weather and terrain were both challenging with snow often up to our thighs, temperatures of -12 at night, -2 during the day. We yomped through dense wooded lowlands and across a vast frozen lake, often carrying full equipment including bergens, weapons and fighting order weighing around 45kg.

Our patrols were long both during the day and at night. We set up a Lying Up Position on one of the small islands on the lake from which we conducted night operations after our initial harbour area was compromised and attacked several times by Swedish and Russian troops during the early part of the operation.

With a multitude of factions operating in the 20km square gaming area, identifying who was friend or foe was a realistic challenge which led to several standoffs during the 48hrs out on the ground. Some of these led to intense firefights - A particular firefight with a Russian group lasted 1.5hrs as they reinforced their position via vehicles. We would push them back after assaulting and flanking them, they would regroup reinforce and assault our position again.

We deployed a 4 man team on a long range reconnaissance patrol to locate a small Russian SF team operating deep in NATO held territory. The recce team were inserted via Skidoo after a neck breaking high speed dash across the frozen lake to their drop off point from which they continued on foot. Their route back to the harbour area was over 5km.

Another team was sent on a patrol to locate an enemy weapons cache with a view to destroy it. Once found, charges were laid and after getting to a minimum safe distance of 100m behind hard cover, the cache was blown using 2kg of plastic explosives - Anton doesn't use pyro for his battle simms!

The troop was tasked with a "very specific" night patrol with a "very specific" route out, which saw the troop patrol into a linear ambush perfectly executed by the Swedish players. The patrol was illuminated by parachute flares and simulated claymore mines exploded all around the us. We were all dead! However, it was an impressive serial and a valuable lesson which taught us that unless we wanted to be cannon fodder for the Swedish players, things needed to change and all orders evaluated in detail. This we did and the gloves came off! We conducted many more patrols after this with great success.

On return to our harbour area from our final long range patrol before END EX, something did not feel right and the patrol stopped short. A 2 man recce team was sent forward to ensure the harbour area was clear. As the recce team made their way up the bank leading to the harbour area, an 8 man section opened fire in another attempted ambush. One of the recce team was hit whilst the other started to get rounds down. One section of the patrol after quickly assessing the threat were tasked to suppress the ambush whilst the remaining 2 sections peeled left out of contact, formed a baseline on the enemy's left flank and assaulted up and over their position clearing it. 8 enemy dead, all of our wounded were back in and a reorg then took place on the position.

For me that was the perfect way to finish a perfect Milsim. Real military tactics being carried out by civilians who after having spent 48hrs in an extreme cold weather environment working together as one unit, helping each other out using the buddy buddy system, patrolling for hours on end day and night, they start to behave and act like real soldiers. This is what we at TIER 1 strive to achieve and at Operation WENDIGO 2 (RESOLUTION), I am pleased to say we did just that.

Everyone that attended should be proud of themselves and we hope you all felt a real sense of achievement on completion of the exercise and a snapshot of what real soldiering is like. We certainly did.

I would like to thank the TIER 1 team members who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our customers get their value for money and a seamless event. Shez, Mike, Mark and Razor top work lads.

Finally a massive thank you to Anton from PANDION Airsoft. You certainly give us the VIP treatment when we visit. The accommodation and facilities before and after the event are top notch. The BBQ and beers immediately upon END EX with the Sauna, ice breaking drills and the outdoor heated hot tub make the trip even more memorable. The lads had a real blast.

We now look forward to WENDIGO 3 - 2014

Kind regards.

Ed Denson
