    Hello,
I have not been around since 2016.

I recently moved back to where I used to play airsoft, so want to try it out again, my UKARA expired in 2016. I have emailed the site I used to play at but they have not got back to me.
Will I have to play the 3 rental games again?

I have done a little bit of research, seems like the `Double Eagle M908B` is the new go to starter gun? It was a g&g combat machine when I used to play.
Will I be somewhat competitive with a cheapo gun like that, (50-60m with .28s)?

Also can anyone recommend me a lightweight cheap chest rig, I've found this https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/8fields-tactical-compact-multi-mission-chest-harness?fv=11580 but can anyone recommend me something else. I just want to hold 2 extra mags that's all.

Also, have any new sites popped up around Essex/London? Can anyone recommend a good CQB site?

Thanks for reading, and I'm excited to be back.

Unless your radio came pre-programmed on PMR446 channels (unlikely), I'd recommend when you get some spare time that that you re-programme your radios onto those licence free frequencies. Not that I am personally fussed about licences etc (and lets face it, the Baofengs don't comply with most of the other PMR446 rules) , but as the Baofengs have such a broad frequency range, there is a possibility that your signals could be interfering with other licenced frequencies that are used for somewhat safety critical operations (not the emergency services these days, but maybe e.g. hospital porters, warehouses, public transport, event security etc.). PMR 446 frequencies found in the bottom of this page if interested: https://www.radiotrader.co.uk/news/facts-about-licence-free-radios.htm#PMR446 Frequencies

Unsure of 1, but re/ 2 friends and I all use the baofeng UV5R and the ear piece it comes with. No programming required just pick a channel and go. Also has a handy lock key so when youre sliding around you don't end up on someone elses channel.

For MTP outfits, literally any car boot will have loads going cheap, same for virtually any milsurp store.

Just had a quick look at G&G CM16's which is what we all got as our starting rifles and holy fuck theyve increased in price.

Hello everyone, I have recently decided to come back to the beloved sport of airsoft. It has been 6 years since I last played. Unfortunately all my guns are destroyed from rust and bacetria build up of being kept in the basement for so long. 7 of us are returning back and feel as though we have lost all of the knowlege we had built up in the 7 years period we played. We need some advice please.

    1. We are looking for a decent starter guns, preferably not more than £300. We don't know what brands are good at the moment on the market. Also of course all our UKAARA has expired and I am guessing that leaves us with two tones Unfortunately for now?

    2. We have been looking at radios and thinking for buying the baofengs, however if I recall accurately they required some sort of programming procedure that seemed complicated to us at the time.

    3. Also where is the best places to purchase MTP outfits. We would prefer the MTP type. Some advice for the clothing accessories would be greatly appreciated.

My first experience with an airsoft gun was when my mate bought a HFC M9 in-store from justBBguns. This was in December that year and when we go home we eagerly ventured out to my garden, where we fired a mag or two on green gas. When we attempted to get through another, we noticed it was no-longer locking back.
"This piece of >insert your own expletive here< has broken! We need to take it back!" he furiously proclaimed.
I wasn't overly keen on this idea, as it's a three hour round trip....but he had paid around £150, so back we went. When we got there, they demonstrated that the gun cycled perfectly, even locking back on empty. Long-story short, the gun was fine but no-one had explained the negative effects of cold weather on a gas gun.

I have owned a VFC Glock 19X and it worked really well overall. However, when it was cold it would do the same thing, only shooting every couple of cycles. My point is that as adults, we should take a moment to analyse the situation, rather than just jumping up and down screaming "Not fit for purpose, consumer rights act!"

Re not having a hand up, I find giving a loud shout of dead man walking helps alot, especially if you're in an area where vegetation is thick or about to walk through a doorway etc

Yes, it's annoying, borderline cheaty and guaranteed to get people mad at you.

Yes, call all your hits. Most sites I play at have the rule that blue on blue is a hit for both parties.

No, ricochets are not direct hits. Caveat, as others have said, if in doubt, take the hit.

Knife kills? You play airsoft to shoot people and be shot, not creepily tap your rubber Rambo knife on someone. Don't be weird; use your gun 😂 If you do want melee kills though, just my opinion, use something slightly realistic, not a cuddly toy, a rubber chicken or your mum's dildo.

Other unwritten rules. Help other players out, whether they're rentals who haven't been shown how to adjust the hop up, or experienced players having snags. We talk about the airsoft community, so do your part.

Never rub another man's rhubarb by picking up someone's gun or other equipment without asking. Truth is, we're all show offs and want you to see our toys, so ask and you'll generally get a positive response.

Also, don't be afraid to share equipment if it gets the job done. I'm not a gung-ho banzai charger, but if someone is, here, take my pistol as well.

Also, everyone goes to play their own type of game. "Push up!", "Be aggressive!" and "Fire and move!" are the airsoft equivalent of "Pass it!" and "Shoot!" in football. We get it. Calling out targets is much more helpful.

Especially in CQB, where it's easier to trade hits, if you think you hit someone and vice versa you should both take the hit.

I've taken hits where I've been reasonably sure they missed me in the interest of promoting good play. Generally speaking it's good practice.

You can normally spot a dodgy player if you casually say "you sure I didn't hit you?" after calling your hit and they get weirdly aggressive.

Ricochet hits are for sites with silly rules and they open players up to getting overkilled. Someone clears a room by spamming fire into it and where they are firing from is the only exit. How do you get out?

I also don't think players should give the impression they are out of play to flank and get kills. Once had a player get behind our team by feigning having lost something, only to knife us all. It was funny, but it encourages players to shoot players that could be injured, lost etc... ofc if they have their hands up they are actively cheating.

Ran our first game at the Trenches we've been building for the last year the other weekend! The theme was Gallipoli - our fictionalised battle of 'Hellespont', so I was running shorts and Pith Helmet with my WW1 kit... (Yes I regretted the shorts)

One of the best moment was being held hostage by an enemy officer... I'd been ordered to guard him, as we had taken him prisoner in a raid. However, during an attack I was too busy killing two of the attackers to see him draw his pistol, no one had disarmed him! He almost made it out of our trenches before anyone noticed, but someone managed to shoot him in the shoulder past me, giving me the chance to grab his pistol!

I then proceded to kill a further two attackers with it!

My son, 14, really wants to play Airsoft. He has some experience of shooting clays and paintball.

We live on the border of East Surrey/West Kent -  are there clubs he can join (we're happy to travel)? Or do you just book into events? Just mindful it would be nice for him to make some friends and get more experience with a club.

    Thank you

Absolute comedy of errors today. Still managed to have fun, but holy crap was it annoying.
I literally forgot my shirt. Not joking, I totally forgot to bring my MARPAT combat shirt so I had to play the whole day (as a ghillie sniper with a ghillie cape) in a black fleece instead. Good thing I practice like this during the summer, so I knew my camo and concealment fundamental skills are good and I knew what I could do and get away with having the entire front of my torso just not camo'd up at all! First game started, I was really hyped to play as injury and gun issues have stifled my last few game days and we were playing a part of the site we never play, which I feel we need to play more because it's great. I spend 20 minutes fighting through thick, overgrown foliage (lots of stamping down on thorns to clear a path) getting into a stupid sneaky position with my HPA VSR, which I decided to run today because it was 5 degrees celcius so not the best weather for gas guns. Got into the position, could see the whole enemy team from a lovely elevated but still well concealed hide on the flank. Lined up my first shot, pulled the trigger aaaaaaaand... click. Solenoid activated and no air came out. Checked my tank and it was empty, so I have a leak somewhere. Tested my hicapa back in the safe zone and one of the mags feed lips decided they didn't want to be there any more and sheared off, snapping and flying off somewhere. The spring and follower thankfully remained in the magazine, but need new feed lips for one of my hicapa mags now. Ugh! Went back to the safe zone and sighted in my m700 that I also brought as a backup. I brought my 2J m700 build since the sight lines are longer at Worthing through the winter and as it was 2J on 144a in 11 degrees celcius, so I figured with more powerful gas it'd be fine at 5 celcius. Went to chrono it with the ASG ultraair I have (which is a little bit stronger than standard green gas, let alone 144a) and it was coming up between 0.9J at the lowest and 1.16J at the highest. Not what I wanted, but at least it was working, conveniently without any MED, and it was sailing the .48s out there so I went out to use that after lunch and had a LOT of fun. On a timed attack and defend game I was the only one who went around on one flank and kept about 10 people occupied by myself (and started picking them all off as they couldn't pinpoint or hit me). Was a lot of impact and I ran out of ammo (3x 28rd mags goes fast fighting 10 people, though I can usually make them last!) Got back to the safe zone afterwards, packing stuff away aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... the AEP lipo in my mp7 tears the end off when I take it out, totally breaking the battery. I go to tape it up so I can battery bin it tomorrow (my local Lidl has a battery bin) and it starts sparking and burning through the tape. The site tech basically pulls the metal contacts off the wires inside so it no longer does that and I tape it all up for the battery bin tomorrow. I can't think of much more that could've realistically gone wrong, but I still managed to get out there and have a bit of fun. Christmas game next game day, so I'm thinking of wearing some festive reindeer antlers and taking a bolt action rifle; usually reindeer are the hunted, so I'm going to turn that around and have the reindeer become the hunter 😈

played at RIFT Comms site 3 yesterday, and decided to run my ww1 loadout.

pissed with rain on my way to the site, which meant that when the sun came out later in the day the woodland was rather humid, and the wool uniform was rather warm.

Chronoed the lee enfield, and found that despite having a weighted piston fitted, it was chronoing at 1J on .32s, so no MED.
i had a great time, and despite the low power level of the lee enfield, i was getting some satisfying kills. at one point during the third game myself and a couple of team mates got into the lower level of an old pumphouse building, and i sniped at least 10 players out the window of the building as they peeked out from behind trees or barricades.

it wasn't all good though, as toward the end the second game, where we had to attack the pump house (among other locations) to capture balls from a bucket to take to our HQ,  i decided to charge the pump house in order to post grenades onto the roof and into the downstairs room to clear out the four defenders and allow the rest of my team to push up.  i slung the lee-enfield and drew my webley and a grenade before charging forwards over approx. 15-20m.  unfortunately as i got to the building, i trod on a rock hidden under the leaves and took a heavy fall, despite my best efforts to regain my balance, and then my attempt to throw a grenade onto the roof failed when the grenade hit the sandbag barrier and bounced off behind a barricade beside where i lay.  when i stood up (with assistance from a marshal who helped untangle the enfield from my webbing) i noticed the webley had sprung open and the cylinder had become detached from the frame.  the barrel was clogged with mud and the shells had been scattered in the mud and leaves.  i managed to find only one shell, then headed back to safe zone to dust off and examine my gear to check if i could use it for the rest of the day.

i was able to borrow an unjamming rod so that over lunch i could strip the lee-enfield and pull through the barrel, finding that there was no debris in the barrel, and there was only mud in the front sight that was easilly cleaned off.  i got some compliments from a member of the enemy team that was inside the building for my push and he offered to lend me some dan wesson shells, if they fitted, to get my webley functioning again.  unfortunately they didnt fit, but the offer was much appreciated.

i have spent today stripping and cleaning both guns and fortunately there is minimal damage to the webley, but now i need to try and find some replacement shells.

You can have a great game 5 v 5 with the right set up/rules.  Hope they sort the site for the reduced numbers.  One game day a month is crap if it clashes with other things.

Actually went to a skirmish for once at Free Fire Zone near Bourne, only 30 players but the small teams made it a fun day.  Rocked my MWS in the morning and got some ridiculous shots with it before switching to the new VFC FAL in the afternoon.  OMFG that thing is brilliant.  Absolute tack driver out to 60m+.  Consistently outranged every AEG on the field.  Who said you can't use gas guns in winter?

It's not the equipment thats the issue, but cap badges & berets have to be "earned", & some are considerably harder to earn than others.
Plus for many of those who have served there is usually an associated pride in your mother regiment, in its history & achievements, as well as the fact that comrades you have served with may have passed, either in the service of their country, or as we're becoming more aware of nowadays, succumbing to their demons due to the things they have witnessed or done in the name of service☹️.
While I can't lay claim to heroic actions whilst serving, but many of my comrades did.
& then years later, not long after I started airsofting, I witnessed an absolute shitshow of a team, nothing I could say positively about their on site behaviour. Nothing new there you might say, but every one of those twats was wearing (badly) my regimental cap badge & beret, for no other reason than that one of their members had allegedly served in a ta unit & still had backdoor access to some kit cheap😬.

I was far from impressed & had to have a word, quite a few actually, some of them you wouldn't repeat to the vicar lol.
    🤬
Sorry guys, didn't mean for this to get dark, but it's a genuine consideration that will trigger some players.
