  1. What a day and what a venue - hot as hell and madness in the nut house! This was an unbelievably brilliant venue, even though semi-auto (it's ultra-CQB with cleaners cupboards etc - ran into one, swung to take aim at guy behind the door and ended up with barrel in his groin - he dropped the BFG he was about to launch and we called time out, shut the cupboard door to allow him to recover his posture!). So, PRO's Excellent marshalling and rotation of them between player and marshall Brilliant use of scenario minigames and team-turn taking Mixture of long open corridors with no cover, and small rooms leading to rooms so needing proper room clearance on two levels Wide and well laid out safe room Lunch (chips, sausage and a drink!) Could go on. CON's Grenades - it was fragging madness! If you didn't have them, you could be stuck in a bottle neck or standoff for 10 minutes, so essential part of your kit (CON as they are key to game changing, and not nice to have a stacked up hallway of 6 players walking back to respawn because of the laughing loon in the closet!) No ghosts - a few weird moments of panic and dread (this normally during the walk to the respawn where you weren't gonna get hit anyway) Marshall's silly names - With the likes of Felix, Treebeard, Redneck, Flayl, and so many I tried to remember, you spend ages trying to remember their name when they are playing and have taken the namebadges off - F&O should invest in personalised namebadges for them to put on their kit. In all, what an epic return to airsoft - half my kit didn't work, the other half broke, and yet I came away with determination to get back there, and more importantly to check out the other F&O Midlands sites as Felix and his crew did a stunning job. Highly recommend booking up early, they even offer a Friday night kip down if you travel far, maybe that's what I need to do next time to hear bumps in the night ahead of thmps in the morning! Thanks to all, and can't wait to see the pictures/new footage
  2. Welcome in Skeeter - there is no upper age limit to an airsofter, and it's more satisfying and rewarding as a community than paintball, so hope you find the answers you need, and the biggest thing when on site is don't be afraid to go up and talk to people - I've never met an airsoft enthusiast who wasn't prepared to share an option or justification as to why they chose what kit, or honest feedback on where to buy or play. Have fun, always wind on your mag, lube your barrel, and always always always wear your eye protection Spanner out
  3. Thanks for this - went to my local supplier http://www.ukfishingandcamping.com/gun-shop.html and asked him the same question and he gave me a "come to daddy" style gesture - he's an ASG wholesaler so can get pretty much any spare for any of their kit, including officially licensed AEG's - plus he'd service and upgrade it for £14 an hour (!?!?) and only charge me the standard price for spares/inner barrels etc! So looks like it'll be worth pursuing through him, and if it turns out truth and not guff, I'll post more details here (won't be bidding on the short barrel as it doesn't have the locking plate, but extreme thanks and kudos to remus for looking for it - thanks and happy bidding to the winners!)
  4. for me, it's MOTIVATION #1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUjxEcRGAdI MOTIVATION #2 DEATH MARCH
  5. Ok. two opinions from me... I've used bio-BB's "for the sake of the environment" and seen these shatter - instantly dumped them all for fear of hitting someone with meshes on and the thing shattering (seeing first hand what can happen to poor grade BB's that I'd paid top Sterling for, I didn't want to risk my eyes with the same so have never gone mesh). I have unfortunately hit someone (in blackout conditions and a million to one shot) that hit the inner gap between open glasses (the guy has marshalled for years with the same glasses) and the BB ricocheed (spell check please) between the inner lense of his protective glasses, and his eyelid - I was on scene instantly to get the guy help and sat with him until he was prepared to go back in - call it guilt, call it respect, I never wanted anyone to feel the way I did so I always go full enclosed goggles (I'm short-sighted so wear contact lenses) and use Sea Drops (expensive for the bottle, but you literally use a drip per lense for half a day - this is what scuba divers use for anti-fog. So I invested £30 in a set of ESS Ballistic goggles with interchangeble lenses (really do make a difference in having the clear, smoked, and yellow - really surprised) - it's the price of an average walk on, but better than hoping a ski mask will do the job. Good luck, and always consider your mouth protection - you might find your choice of goggles then means you can't use your faceguard.
  6. Hi All Mannlichers, I've been modding my A2 for some time (my first rifle and still going strong) but what I really need now (not a H-Bar) is to have an interchangeable barrel which, depending on the scenario, I can define the rifle best for the environment. So in short, I'm looking to turn this: Into this (shorty): So I'm trying to decide whether to build or buy - as it's only the barrel I need, it's pointless getting a whole rifle just for the barrel, but the only way to do this cost effectively would be to get a 2-tone and ditch the rest. The alternative is to mod a spare barrel and hop-up I have, and "work" them into this: It'd look pretty custom, and would just need machining the plate and tubes that hold the barrel in position (so may cost around the same as to buy a spare barrel). Anyone got any thoughts or innovations they can provide me? Thanks in advance, Spanner Out
  7. Heart beat raised in anticipation of The Towers after watching the videos

  8. Sounded like there was an issue with some grenades setting the fire alarm off...felix said no smoke at next game date which is sad
  9. Thanks for the comments and feedback, very useful to hear with so little media available about the site. Have booked on for the 21st along with two of the Ministry of Mince founders, so really looking forward to it. Silly question - is the carpark pay and display? Seriously though, is there parking at the venue or is it off site parking? --EDIT: Felix just told me there was room for around 350 cars...think we should be fine - FaO should rent it out for the Kasabian festival gig thats on the evening of the 21st! If anyone had any photos, please can you post? Thanks all, Spanner out
  10. Lo all, first post, but trying to find info on the new site, I spoke with Garry today who said it was fully booked, but am looking to book me and my backup (or am I his???) for a trip on the next game at The Tower on 21st June. Looking to get feedback on the site layout, organisation and general feel for the place. We've played a mixture of woodland (aylesbury, Cottingham and Corby)small CQB (the Outpost and the Bristol chambers) and urban sprawls (Cambridge ) and so are looking north for a new challenge. Bit rusty but up for fun and giggles, plus a bit of serious team work and major heroics! Hope to see you on the 21st, and will keep checking the post to see how the new site works out. Spanner out
